Ya I think youre right that going to the mountain means being closer to god. Jesus is always going to the mountain but maybe he didnt really go up in the mountains he just connected with god. Ancient people saw god as being away from earth toward the heavens.
In light of those other scriptures it makes sense that it was never meant for Abraham to kill his son and that it was put in the bible to remind us not to make Abraham's mistake. What else would it be except a story of faith?
Ok I got a lot of thoughts from this. I like this examination, it makes sense to me. I like that idea of sacrificing the animal within to become closer to God. Maybe when we think God has turned away from us we are really turning from him without realizing it. God can't be in an unclean receptacle. So if we are animalistic we will be farther from God.
2Ki 6:15-17 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us.....
And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
lol you misunderstood, i was explaining what fornication was in the bible, in the bible fornication has nothing to do with sex. it is spiritual fornication which is when religious people go to each other to know God, it is also adultery.
it is what defiles God.
in other words. it is describing MAN MADE RELIGION.
I told you when you asked me "WHAT IS GOD" that it was spiritual fornication. that you were to go to God to know God, not come to me.
@TheFurthertruth I accept that in the bible religious tradition used this betrayal of God. in marriage vows between man and woman.but the origin of fornication, and adultery had nothing to do with sex, it was betrayal of God.
@aaugoaa there is no consensus on whether Sodom and Gomorrah existed or not...
Sodom and Gomorrah is about spiritual sin. this story is more concerned with the sins of believers in God, not non-believers, believers who fornicate with each other, in man made religions, hopping from one man made religion to another, drinking the wine of each other , and not the true wine of God
Rom 1:28-32 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers....Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
@TheFurthertruth i never said the bible was a man made religion, what i said was, that men in religion go to each other rather than God to know God. this is MAN MADE RELIGION this is what defiles them, this is the adultery, and fornication.the angels are clear in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, that salvation is in the mountain.
2Peter 2:5-7 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked.
@aaugoaa Exd 33:20-23 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
God is a person in Spirit form. God opened the eyes of Moses.
@TheFurthertruth this is why Jesus also mentions Lot's wife, he said look what happened to her. Lot's wife looked back on the city and turned into a pillar of salt, do you think she really turned into a pillar of salt?, No, lot's wife looked back, so she could not move forward, she couldn't have the glory of God, because she looked back, this is why Jesus says in that day, if you are on the housetop and your stuff in the house, do not return for it. because you will become like Lot's wife.
Sodom and gomorrah was a true event, two real cities was destroyed, i can prove that to you. Lot's wife became a pillar of salt under a hunderd degrees or more, when God rained fire and brimstone from heaven. The two cities were burnt to ashes.
fornication has nothing to do with sex, in spiritual text it is about being adulterous in God, and giving yourself into other man made religions ..the angels came to warn them, but these sodomites would only have fornicated with them too, and defile them, so they were blind to them. the angels show the way to salvation in God, and tell Lot to go to the mountains, to save themselves from this destruction of this sin city, who defile God.
@TheFurthertruth In the whole chapter of Luke17, Jesus gives an example of 10 Lepers that were cleansed, but only one of them came back to show the glory of God. and he says it was the same for Noah, and the same for Lot. Jesus says it will be the same when the son of man is revealed. these stories were not about God killing people, these stories were about many experiencing God, yet only a few were saved. just like the 10 lepers, only one of them was the glory of God, like Noah, like Lot.
2Ti 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Peter 1:21 Know this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old times by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
@bigspliffs many peoples names got changed in the bible, it's a sort of title or ranking, Sarah would become a mother of kings, by giving birth to Isaac, her status and title changes.
