@YTPgirlaph I think this was an OEM feature... I had a Packard Bell 486DX2 back in the day and Minesweeper has sounds on it. However, a plain install of Windows 3.1 doesn't.
@MrKsoft You know, I think I had a same thing that you got since I remembered having the Packard Bell logo on the BIOS when I turned the computer on. And I didn't even know that I had an Windows 3.1 OEM feature version. =P
@YTPgirlaph It wasn't really an "OEM edition" or anything... at the core it was plain Windows 3.1 and then PB just installed their bundled software on top, put it on a restore CD, and called it a day. I want to look into this further though, since IIRC there isn't even an option in vanilla 3.1 to add Minesweeper sounds. So PB must have added the feature, or used a modified version of Minesweeper that allowed it. I am going to check it out when I finally repair my PB system.
You know, I think Win3.1 is as close to a classic Macintosh OS as possible, because it has the same minimize and window resizing, maximize, close etc. functions as a classic Mac PowerPC. except my 3.1 laptop doesnt have a sound card, just beeps and loud ear piercing noises.
i like to play with this OS. Is very sad with virtualbox doesent have folder sharing for DOS and 3.1 like MS Virtual PC. I hope they can build a Virtual disk with drivers for that.
I am so hoping for direct x support in later versions of windows and maybe some 9x support at all and than this would be a complete solution for all the disks i have that have outlasted there hardware/ backups I made knowing how prone to damage a cd is as well.
@MadDawg010 Virtualbox is much way better than DOSbox!!

Cool video but once Win 3.1 was loaded, I wish it would have zoomed just inside the VM to look like it was the real thing.

I remembered that Minesweeper had a sound on Windows 3.1. I don't see why there's no sound on this one though?
YTPgirlaph 7 months ago
@YTPgirlaph I couldn''t find an option for it in Win3.1. I know Vista and 7 have it, though.

@TomShloop2 Odd, it should work out-of-the-box. I'm assuming you've already checked the "Setup Windows" utility?
MadDawg010 7 months ago
@MadDawg010 yes, I need a .drv file to install the vga driver
also why dont I have the tada sound? it plays a chime instead, but my sound works fine

Agreed. I would like to move some legacy files and games without having to make a floppy for them each time.
