every "guitar solo" video on youtube is just people 'improvising' a little and then they don't know how to play so they lean on Eruption or other van halen solos (which i might add are all the same), if you're going to play other people's songs as solos i might suggest something good? try Fives by Guthrie Govan. or even a Joe Satriani song, just anything that isn't eruption...

I know this is a talent show, hence to show ur talent. But this is what happens when u got no feelings... It's just a bunch of fast licks and sound effects. Tapping is 1 of the easiest things you can do on a guitar and it sounds pretty cool. Technically this is not very good, and put some feelings into it man! And most important be yourself.

No, this guys solo was licks held together by a freakin' preschool glue stick... that aside, when tapping is done right actually it can get pretty technical, even for some of the more professional guitarists i.e. Frank Zappa, Billy Gibbons, Ace Frehley, Jimmy Page, Shannon Hamm and Chuck Schuldiner, and the one who popularized the technique, Eddie Van Halen.

It's staggering how ignorant some of the responses to this video are. I'll leave it at that.

You did a great job for a high school age kid. Things could definitely be smoother in areas and transitions don't flow well, but you've got a great start on basic dexteriety. EVH is not a bad place to start at all with learning. Keep practicing and branch out and try some other guitarists as well. As much work as you've put in to replicate these EVH solos so well, I'm sure you'll end up fine.

OK I'll probably get blasted for this but here goes. Pros: decent technique and nice homage to EVH and the other whammy bar kings of the 80's. Suggestions: try listening to some other guys who define their style by their tone - Eric Johnson, Brent Mason, Billy Gibbons. These guys helped define guitar by marrying their style and technique w/tone. EVH was heavily influenced by Hendrix, yet you wont hear much of that in his playing. Nice playing - now get some ice cubes to cool off those fingers.
