Why do you trying to compare RE and SH? Different games, both great. And if you think that RE is bad just try to remember the "First zombie" scene in RE1... This was one of the most epic things I ever saw.

in silent hill 2...it showed that the town wasnt crazy...there wasnt really any monsters...it was just a vision of james's self-concious...i mean remember luara the little girl running around the town without a hitch...well she wasnt seeing what james was seeing...though james seemed sane...in retrospect he was not..he was as crazy as a person in a mental ward...and to me that means alot more than a town filled with monsters and some cult trying to bring back God or whatever..best.game.ever
Resident Evil didn't "evolve into" action and gore. It was always about action, gore, and jump-scares. The only change has been more focus on combat and less focus on nonsensical puzzles. Thematically, Silent Hill doesn't have much in common with the majority of survival horror games, old or recent... RE, Dino Crisis, Dead Space, The Suffering, Clock Tower, Parasite Eve, etc. Only a handful of survival horrors (Forbidden Siren is all I can think of) are at all similar to Silent Hill.
@dark7element there is something that RE don't have in common with silent hill.
resident evil is about a post apocalyptic world, silent hill is about some sort of hysteria in someone's head. people should just stop comparing those 2, and just enjoy the product of those who work hard on a game.
@oly355 Resident Evil isn't post apocalyptic. The only 'apocalypses' are on a strictly local level. It's a bit more realistic than most zombie media in that regard; when the plague is in danger of spreading out of control, the government stops fucking around and drops a nuke on Raccoon City. Wesker tries several times to cause an apocalypse but he doesn't succeed.
If you're trying to say that RE is more physical and less psychological horror, then yea, absolutely.

I remember hearing this during the credits. I was happy to have survived the horror, but also sad because it's such a wonderful game not even words can explain how good it is and now it was over. No doubt my favorite SIlent Hill game.
Not only are the melencholy tones of this song amazing, but it really appeals to the rock nerd in me that appreciates power guitar and bitchin' guitar riffs! Silent Hill always has the best soundtracks!
Resident Evil and Silent Hill are both great series but they're different.
RE is survival horror and SH is pyshcological horror. But all fans keep saying is that RE is ruined but it's not the only one. Look at Final Fantasy and Silent Hill is not so hot either at the moment. I only liked Silent Hill 1-3 and Resident Evil 0-Code Veronica
Yeah i think every Silent Hill fan would enjoy that. But problem is that they all split. Akira has even stopped doing the music for the games. i know a lot of Team Silent went to join Hideo Kojima's dev team (Metal Gear Solid franchise). and another one of the guys went and made the Siren games. If they don't make a good silent hill game when i'm older. Me and my bro r gonna try and make it. Got lots of idea's combat, horror, and story wise.
silent hill was a game with confusing storyline. very deep. while giving scary atmosphere, which was good. Resident evil gave scary atmosphere with more action and a more branching storyline... so far. with the new resident evil coming out its obvious they are working on new ideas for the series because of the new ones for the 3ds and Xbox and ps3. however silent hill seemed to run out of ideas at the fourth one. both games were great. but silent hills original team disbanded. that is what sucks
I don't think that was all there was to SH2 theme. If you got the water ending, James did overcome his fear, but did he fulfill his wife's last wishes? I don't think so. I think there's a deeper tragic theme here. It's like the ending of shutter island. When pushed to the limit to face the ugly reality do we always make the "better" choice to move forward. "Better" in quotes because for James, that was subjective. What is the better choice if any?
@Tinhh sorry but your saying its not survival meaning that the ganados your trying to SURVIVE!!!! from are just going say " yeh the doors that way buddy" i would say re and sh are very compared in terms to horror and SURVIVAL!!! but silent hill franchise put more effort. ;)
@CainG88 Imo, it's more like Resident Evil used to be about survival, in a phsyical world, it was a different and kind of shallower (in my opinion, again) than Silent Hill, Silent Hill itself is a survival against your own demons, your own mind, it's fear itself materialized, that's the beauty of it. Resident Evil stopped being survival the moment it went over to RE4 though.
@CainG88 RE is just a B movie parody. RE4 and 5 are just a Hollywood movie parodies. That's why those game are sometimes is ridiculously funny (Secret island with arsenal, evil russian stereotype, way too muscular protagonists, etc.)
@Pangyarthur it wasn't B in no concept. it had its own gripping story. it just switched to more action type gameplay [i don't know how anyone else, but i enjoyed combat more than puzzles] as for too muscular protagonists, nobody bitched about terminator looking like muscleblob nor saying terminator being B. and it isn't that much overdone, Chris just got to train.

In my opinion, Silent Hill was always better than Resident Evil. It's so much deeper and so much more mysterious. What really happened in the town of Silent Hill? Are the monsters real, or are they merely hallucinations brought on by the character's own hysteria? People love Silent Hill because it makes no sense most of the time, and yet, they want to learn more about it, and they know they will never be able to explain it. You can try and leave SH, but once you're in, you can never get out.
its about ancient gods and the power they wield. and also about a cult called the order trying to resurect their fallen god and usher in a new paradise by eliminating all human beings. pyramid head is the punisher who makes people atone for their sins by whatever sin they commited. silent hill is a town touched by the power of the old gods andis now trapped in a world between worlds. as for the monsters they are manifestations of sins commited by humans. i just explained the whole thing :p
Fact is Resident Evil doesn't deserve the title: Resident Evil - afer the 3rd game in my opinion. Yes, 4+5 are good games, but they're not Resident Evil like we truly know them.
Silent Hill However even in the new ones has been true to it's name, and even though some are better than others, you can always expect an emotional ride.

So, in a sense, it was all a delusion. And she won't be coming back for me. There's an order that we can't speak to each other ever again.
Actually Silent Hill has 3 different worlds. The real word, where people live happily in Silent Hill and is a tourist attraction(Proved in Silent Hill 2 & 4). The second is the fog world, the town is abandoned and fog is present in the town if you hold a sin or darkness in your heart. Finally, the otherworld or your personal nightmare. The people in the real world have no idea the town holds tremendous power.
I'm trying to look for a song that might've been one of the silent hill soundtracks, I heard it about 4-5 years ago..... something like a duet, or more than one person singing... metal/alternate. Why are most of the comments a debate on which is better? They need to seriously re-do the movie. Ok, so they had the correct music in it & somewat related it to the original storyline. But c'mon, it sucked apple juice 4rm a straw! 4 starters, the 1st movie shud be abu Harry Mason losing and trying to find CHERYL (wtf is "sharon"?!). Then the 2nd one can be about Cheryl grwing up and changing her name to Heather and so on.
@Sk8terGaMer89, I liked the movie; of course it wasn't much like the games but it would have been pretty boring if it was. Personally I commend the makers for sticking true to the Silent hill atmosphere whilst still being original with the story. Sure, there are a few bits here and there that don't make sense; for example pyramid head shouldn't have been in the film. But over all I think it did a good job considering it’s the only non resident evil game to film adaptation that is any good (IMO)
Silent Hill 1-3 were masterpieces. 4 was a new twist on the series, taking it to a neigboring town, and I though it was just as effective as the originals. Origins, despite what everyone says, was a good game. It fleshed out Alessa's backstory and still had an emotional story. Homecoming was a bit of a letdown; it let go of almost everything but The Order and the name Silent Hill. Pyramid Head's appearance in that game was pointless. And Shattered Memories was just a disgrace to SH1. So there.

And to me the silent hill 2 ending was sad, but yet..can't think of a word...not happy....but it just felt better that James got one last chance to make amends with mary, Tell her he was sorry, that he loved her and so on.

I can agree that Resident Evil turned into action and gore; which is pure shit without meaning to it. Silent Hill definitely involves human emotion to the fullest.
I don't think RE turned out bad, I mean to be honest I hated the slow gameplay in RE, not that it improved in the RE 4 and RE 5 but Silent Hill 2 and 3 were all about story really which is why I loved them both. The gameplay just felt stiff. I doubt I'd move that damn slow if I had to fend against monsters. But I'm not Rambo Either.
@SolidSnake3131 Fuck that shit, Silent Hill may be awesome because of its deep, immersive, mind-blowing, conception-twisting, can't-get-your-eyeballs-off-of-the-TV story, but you can never say killing zombies in excessively violent mannerisms for absolutely no reason whatsoever isn't fun. Besides, Resident Evil was born mainly on action and gore, puzzles were second.

After Silent hill 3 was finished new developers took over, is that right? In that case I hope the old once will demand their game back.. No, the new developers took over after SH4: The Room. I personally loved SH4 for it's symbolism and the fact that Silent Hill was still portrayed as hell reaching out to nearby towns who have had a connection with the town. I really don't see much symbolism in the new games. Team Silent, the original team, disbanded after SH 4.
@GlowingGenetLoki No, you are wrong. It was fter 4. It's even listed when you pop in Silent Hill 4. The name of the team is "Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo". The same developers as the first 3 SH games. The new developers were "Climax Studios", developers of SH:0rigins and Shattered Memories, and "Double Helix", the developers of SH: Homecoming. Konami handed the series to another developer and I'm hearing rumors that the next SH game may be a crappy 1st person shooter.

Hey, I don't blame you. The Silent Hill franchise was an amazing psychological horror storyteller. It was amazing right after the original team disbanded after SH 4. When Origins and Homecoming came out, I was completely disappointed. This proved to me that Konami no longer cares for it's franchise. They are using it as a money maker. 0rigins and Homecoming lacked of what previous games had. What I will tell ya is that Silent Hill died right after 4.
@Mini2999 You're well read on games, I've only just started delving into which companies have bought which of my old favourites, like Pandemic Studios...
I rated Silent Hill: The Room (Which I beleive was 4) as my favourite personally, though I know it got fairly negative response from most, but hey, the Black Sheep is usually one of the best, like C&C Generals and Zero Hour... but that's a whole other kettle of fish. :P

Yeah, I agree. The new American Developers seem to be forgetting a very important thing...ORIGINALITY. I mean seriously...they are just ripping off Team Silents work, rehashing monster, plots, etc. There's nothing that we haven't already seen. And so it's the same crap over and over again, except worse. So far Shattered Memories seems like something new and fresh, but it doesn't really look like SH. Well at leas they're trying something new. I don't think they'll ever surpass Team Silent though.
@OmegaOwA : Wrong. They aren't good these days BECAUSE they are rehashing the same concepts, AND they aren't good because them being too original doesn't scream "Silent Hill" in many ways.
They need to find a middle ground and rediscover the franchise. Or if you're like me, just say "Fuck it" and play SH 1-4 only.

Shattered Memories only pushed forward a colder version of Alternate World. And not fighting (which pushed up the OH SHIT factor, because if you got a weapon, you can kick an ass.)

I don't think resident evil was ever supposed to be anything other than action and gore.
It had a slightly deeper message that was large corporations should never be above the law, regardless of how big they get.
Silent Hill, for me, was always supposed to be about the human mind and how we do our best to overcome our fear for the sake of our loved ones.
Two totally different games, two different stories. They should not be compared.

In my opinion, Silent Hill was always better than Resident Evil. It's so much deeper and so much more mysterious. What really happened in the town of Silent Hill? Are the monsters real, or are they merely hallucinations brought on by the character's own hysteria? People love Silent Hill because it makes no sense most of the time, and yet, they want to learn more about it, and they know they will never be able to explain it. You can try and leave SH, but once you're in, you can never get out.

Fact is Resident Evil doesn't deserve the title: Resident Evil - afer the 3rd game in my opinion. Yes, 4+5 are good games, but they're not Resident Evil like we truly know them.
Silent Hill However even in the new ones has been true to it's name, and even though some are better than others, you can always expect an emotional ride.

Actually Silent Hill has 3 different worlds. The real word, where people live happily in Silent Hill and is a tourist attraction(Proved in Silent Hill 2 & 4). The second is the fog world, the town is abandoned and fog is present in the town if you hold a sin or darkness in your heart. Finally, the otherworld or your personal nightmare. The people in the real world have no idea the town holds tremendous power.

Personally I commend the makers for sticking true to the Silent hill atmosphere whilst still being original with the story. Sure, there are a few bits here and there that don't make sense; for example pyramid head shouldn't have been in the film. But over all I think it did a good job considering it’s the only non resident evil game to film adaptation that is any good (IMO)

Silent Hill 1-3 were masterpieces. 4 was a new twist on the series, taking it to a neigboring town, and I though it was just as effective as the originals. Origins, despite what everyone says, was a good game. It fleshed out Alessa's backstory and still had an emotional story. Homecoming was a bit of a letdown; it let go of almost everything but The Order and the name Silent Hill. Pyramid Head's appearance in that game was pointless. And Shattered Memories was just a disgrace to SH1. So there.

I don't think RE turned out bad, I mean to be honest I hated the slow gameplay in RE, not that it improved in the RE 4 and RE 5 but Silent Hill 2 and 3 were all about story really which is why I loved them both. The gameplay just felt stiff. I doubt I'd move that damn slow if I had to fend against monsters. But I'm not Rambo Either.

Besides, Resident Evil was born mainly on action and gore, puzzles were second.

No, the new developers took over after SH4: The Room. I personally loved SH4 for it's symbolism and the fact that Silent Hill was still portrayed as hell reaching out to nearby towns who have had a connection with the town. I really don't see much symbolism in the new games. Team Silent, the original team, disbanded after SH 4.

@GlowingGenetLoki No, you are wrong. It was fter 4. It's even listed when you pop in Silent Hill 4. The name of the team is "Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo". The same developers as the first 3 SH games. The new developers were "Climax Studios", developers of SH:0rigins and Shattered Memories, and "Double Helix", the developers of SH: Homecoming. Konami handed the series to another developer and I'm hearing rumors that the next SH game may be a crappy 1st person shooter.

Hey, I don't blame you. The Silent Hill franchise was an amazing psychological horror storyteller. It was amazing right after the original team disbanded after SH 4. When Origins and Homecoming came out, I was completely disappointed. This proved to me that Konami no longer cares for it's franchise. They are using it as a money maker. 0rigins and Homecoming lacked of what previous games had. What I will tell ya is that Silent Hill died right after 4.

I rated Silent Hill: The Room (Which I beleive was 4) as my favourite personally, though I know it got fairly negative response from most, but hey, the Black Sheep is usually one of the best, like C&C Generals and Zero Hour... but that's a whole other kettle of fish. :P

Yeah, I agree. The new American Developers seem to be forgetting a very important thing...ORIGINALITY. I mean seriously...they are just ripping off Team Silents work, rehashing monster, plots, etc. There's nothing that we haven't already seen. And so it's the same crap over and over again, except worse. So far Shattered Memories seems like something new and fresh, but it doesn't really look like SH. Well at leas they're trying something new. I don't think they'll ever surpass Team Silent though.

They need to find a middle ground and rediscover the franchise. Or if you're like me, just say "Fuck it" and play SH 1-4 only.
