if you use spring water in your tank (clean regularly) but use a feeding tank (empty daily & fill with same temp water thats in their tank) your turtle should stay free of algae. dont hold them, just transfer them to their feeding tank for an hour or 2 a day. i love my turtles and i will respect them to do whats best for them
Some kinds of algae can grow under the scales and harm the turtle. That happened to my turtle. She acted really sick and I cleaned her shell with Dove and a soft toothbrush and she brightened up almost immediately after.
* i am sorry, but my turtle has no reason to camoflauge in his tank... Not to mention, that you just told me to remove my turtle from his home, and you contradicted yourself saying that it is not a good idea...WHAT THE HECK?
For all those who are wondering how to actually do it, take a soft face cloth, and submerge it in very warm water for about 1 minute. Then, starting at the back of the shell wipe up very hardly, but w/out harming the turtle. da turtle should be @ least 5 yrs old b4 doin this
"Because naturally, in the wild" turtles don't life in 10 gallon puddles of water, dumbfuck. Get a 75 gallon or something, you're in a fucking pet store.
ExpeertVillage really are a bunch of fools. Half the ime they have no idea what their talking about and as for this video title, I don't need to explain whats wrong there.
Ello there. Am was wonderin how to make a rattle out of my here turtle's shell. I was watchin that Dizny cartoon called Hocapontis and that thar engine was usin his turtle shell as a rattle. I already got mine gutted out, but I caint pry it open. How do I pry open my turtle's shell?
use a toothbrush. sprinkle sand on the carapace and scrub with toothbrush, rinse and repeat with the plastron. not washing your turtles shell allows it to harbor harmful bacteria and parasites, which lead to disease and illness in your turtle. and yes its a good idea to do this with tortoises as well but replace the sand with water, and only do it once a month or so.
i have had 2 red eared sliders for a while now... when i clean their tank i use a soft sponge and water to clean their shells it works really good. i used to caare for my brothers RES and we use to use a soft toothbrush for her shell. so either one is good.
if the turtle in our aquarium should look neat, cleaning the shell is a good thing..just brush it off just with water..if not also i dont think it would be a problem...
Md Shafiiz ,your turtles eyes sound swollen, and could have something to do with bacteria or chlorine breeding in the water. I would call a vet right away and have it checked out!!! (hope im not too late though)
Hey expertvillage , i am facing a problem here . My turtle simply wont open its eyes and i dont know why . Anyhow has any idea why is this happening ?
Just keep fish that eat the algae off the turtles shell. My Albino RES doesn't bother with fish since he grew up with them. He's used to them on his shell when he sleeps or when he's swimming around the tank
grab a clean cloth (preferably old or not wanted cloth but make sure it is clean, no products in it) put water on cloth (dip it on water or so) then wash the turtle (cloth bath)
Don't rub it or force it might hurt the turtle, be gentle.
Naturaly in the wild, turtles can bask and dry themselves out a lot better than they can in captivity. I clean my turt's shells, terrestrial and aquatic. Since they can't select their enviornment as well as they can in the wild, its up to me to help them out.
haha I soO AGREE. lol he didn't say how to clean the shell at all. What I do to keep the turtles shell clean is keep Otocinclus Catfish to eat off the algae from the shell of the turtle. Same thing with Siamese Algae Eaters.
i like your tips though because the turtle isnt in its natural home and generally in a tank could the algea growing on it not increase the risk of diseases or illnesses??
LOL my algaue eater does that for me, he just goes on my turtles back and does the job

As long as their enclosure is kept free of algae, then the turtle will become algae free.
