Ok, I think my mind has decided to purchase this game. It has all the styles of a modern game including the previous Battlefield vehicles. I suppose I was being a bit hard on the series. Purchasing this game would benefit the gaming community as a whole, because BF2 was revolutionary.

@savator408 Exactly. There's no point at all. Dude I installed Skyrim and I'm getting 100+ fps in that game. The 295 is a beast, there's nothing out there that really challenges it.

@NATOFOXX Not on PC~ there is no limit. Consoles are limited to 30FPS~ but they wouldn't be able to do more than 30 FPS anyway. Not easily, or without overheating. Thus they kept it to 30 on consoles. My rig averages 45-80 fps. Better rigs, with the 580 GTXs can do way more than that.
A 295 I'm sure plays awesome on BF3 I have a GTX 285 everything is set to Auto High settings, I grabed a GTX 460 for the DX 11 and Auto sets it to Medium!
@MARTOUFFF06 Very easy to do on air with the 2500k and 2600k. I can actually go up to 5.2ghz, but I have to put too much voltage in it that I'm comfortable with on air. If I had a water cooling setup I'd go for it. 5.0ghz is doable with my Venomous-X heatsink, but it goes up to 80 degrees on Prime95 and I can really tolerate that. So I sit at 4.8ghz with a max temp during prime of 63c and I'm okay with that. :3

@iPhiiiL ive chosen to not have to high settings on the card, and still i play bf3 with beautiful graphics which looks exactly as the highest graphics and i have no lagg... so thats my tip of settings...

@AmBockshorn No. My graphics are set to Ultra, then I drop Antialiasing Deferred to Off because the game uses Deferred lighting. I use Antialiasing Post instead. Deferred does nothing but drop your FPS but have very little improvement.
Google 'HardOCP Battlefield 3 Antialiasing' to learn more. It has comparison screenshots showing Deferred is nothing but a system hog, and won't even get rid of the jaggies properly.
@TheSpartan1699 Doubtful. The reason the Apache and the Black Hawk are not in here is because both are Army vehicles. Not USMC, which is what the Battlefield series is sponsoring.
@XplosivCookie Um, but this isn't BC2... ^^ Battlefield 3 is more heavily focused on the USMC. This is why the F18, Viper and Venom were chosen. They are staples of the current Marine air division.
@ownyourcarmaster Exactly. Which is why the XM8 was added in, as the XM8 (at the time) was scheduled to be the new Army weapon to replace the aging M16. Sadly, the Army canceled the program and the XM8 was trashed. It got stuck in the game though. So yes, BC2 was Army oriented, specifically Task Force Rangers and Special Forces. It's also why the Bradley was used instead of the LAV. Though the Army is seeing much more use of the LAV in Afghanistan than the Bradley these days.
@strikerk Nothing ever stays the same in the Army or Marines. Things are always changing, technology advancing, weapons getting better. So no matter what game comes out in what time, the technology put into the game such as vehicles and weapons, will not match todays standards.
@metlgandalf in bad company 2 i feel the other way around, I found the Russian Mi28 Havoc easier to handle than the AH Apache xD but in the BF3 theres only Mi28 and no more Apache :/
4 years on and the 295 is still an awesome card. Yeh it might not have DX11 but it can still play many of the current games pretty darn good. Even better in quad sli.
@taylorvincent It's a long time of experience with Battlefield's helicopters. I use mouse and keyboard, with a transition of weight distribution with the keyboard and prediction with the mouse. I predict the inertia with the mouse and adjust with keyboard thrust distribution. I was still (well am still) learning the BF3 helicopter. In this video, I was lucky to get into a nice empty server to fly around and practice. :) The RU helicopter is very tricky to move, but has quick lateral movement.

@nightjj 295 won't have DX11, but I wouldn't expect it to run those features even if it did. Still, you're being held back, dramatically~ by your processor. When I was playing Bad Company 2, I had a Q6600 set to around 3.4ghz. It was a great processor, same video card. Around 55-70 frames easy. Was pretty good, but then I upgraded to a new mobo and the new i5 2500k. Same video card, was getting 100-120 fps in BC2. That's no joke. That was the processor alone. You might be bottlenecked. I was.
For a good example of this, go to youtube and search for this "Q9650 vs 2500k BC2" in the search bar. This video will illustrate what a processor upgrade (maybe some ram) can do for you. It will entail a new mobo upgrade, but it's a great time to go to the 1155 socket, as even if you get the current Sandybridge, it'll be upgradable to Ivybridge in the future on the same motherboard, which is awesome. If you're lucky and scout around, you can get a mobo and processor for around 300.
@nightjj Oh for 300 bucks that's pretty good~ but it's definitely got zero head room because of its old platform. In other words, you won't really be able to improve it. However if it's got a GTX 295, that right there gives it a boost. Just don't expect to be able to upgrade it much beyond where it's at. The RAM is most likely PC3200 which is expensive these days because they've stopped making them really. But for the price, it's a good PC. It'll definitely play BF3 on Low-Med with ease. (60fps)
@supersolid123 Your processor is holding you back dramatically. Graphics card is also the lower end version of the spectrum. Visit geforce.com~ they got a nice guide on what cards work with what settings.

@pvtbonner No~ but it doesn't need to. I'm not sure why people think they need to run this game on max settings. Max settings includes nonsense like Motion Blur, and two forms of antialiasing and an ambient occlusion that makes everything fuzzy. Your system will run the game fine on Medium with Textures on High or Ultra. Though if you want 60fps minimum~ you'll have to be comfortable with Medium and certain things on low or off. The game will still look amazing. Beta was locked to Medium.
@sunwellsucks i believe that the gtx295 is better than the 550ti... but the 560ti? the 560ti is better than the 285, but idk about the 295. well, the 560ti has DX11 so thats better.
back to your 550Ti: i wouldnt say it would run "fantastic" (To be honest its below the recommended GTX560 -non TI version-) but it should run at high, 1080p
@strikerk probably will run the max BETA settings pretty fast.. but i dont know about the full game (the beta is locked at mid graphics, it needs a GTX580 to play 60fps+ on ultra maxed on the full one)
FRAPS can be used, it's a piece of software that records 3D applications screens and can take pictures. You could also (if BF3 has this) use the ingame recorder. FRAPS is most recommended choice because it's easier but you do have to pay for it.
@dasbasti1990 Well, like I told Killeruman, try this. Get the 285.27 drivers from Nvidias website. You'll have to go into the section that says Legacy and Beta drivers to find them as they are in between the current and the latest beta. Then set the game to default settings. Then back out of the game. Then go into a game, set it to LOW. All lowest. Then exit the game. Then go back into a game. Tell me how this works out. I noticed, certain settings won't actually take until the game is reloaded.
@killeruman When I ran the latest driver, I get a TON of flicker, and textures jumping around. Also, frames stutter in micro bits (skipping the frames) so that it looks slower than it should. The 285.27 drivers aren't perfect~ but they're currently the best running drivers for my hardware. Hoping for new ones from Nvidia.
Right now, almost any issue visually you're having is not Dice's fault, but Nvidia's lame drivers.
@strikerk Runs about the same. Everything needs to be on low basically to have it run as smoothly as I want it to. I get about 40-50 fps at most unless I'm alone in an area and nothing is going on.
@Dschmizz Well, you still haven't told me your processor. This is a processor intensive game~ and my i5 2500k is overclocked to 4.8ghz, which is no joke. Do not underestimate the processors ability for these titles. On the same video card, I gained 80+ frames going from a q6600 @ 3.0ghz to this i5 2500k in Bad Company 2. That's no joke.
@strikerk SLI out of the box is sexy XD But still, I'm STILL running a 8800GT. I wanted to get a second one and SLI it, but at this point, I'd rather just get a new card lol
@Smapss This is all on High. :3 Remember though, no DX11 so you won't get any Tesselation or any of those fancy textures. Terrain Detail is locked to Medium and won't go any higher on DX10 cards. Still... who cares?! XD
Also there's a lot of "microstutter" that makes the frames look slower than what they are currently, hope the drivers fix that. :)
Hehe, I can live with that, just bought that 2500k and a new mobo, so gotta save up for a DX11 card, but my 295GTX will do for a bit longer, it's really still a powerful card!
And indeed, even without ultra settings it looks awesome!
@Smapss I noticed biggest culprits for me with my rig are shadows, HBAO and of course antialiasing. If you drop all those to their lowest, you can put the texture related stuff to Ultra and get 50-60 easily. :3
The 295 still has life in it, and getting a GTX 580 this late seems kind of silly. We should just wait for the kepler cards coming out next year. :)

the AH apache is mutch easyer to fly then the RU heli.
also u can make quick muves with the AH (and the Back rotator is quicker then the RU one).

@nightjj 295 won't have DX11, but I wouldn't expect it to run those features even if it did. Still, you're being held back, dramatically~ by your processor. When I was playing Bad Company 2, I had a Q6600 set to around 3.4ghz. It was a great processor, same video card. Around 55-70 frames easy. Was pretty good, but then I upgraded to a new mobo and the new i5 2500k. Same video card, was getting 100-120 fps in BC2. That's no joke. That was the processor alone. You might be bottlenecked. I was.

For a good example of this, go to youtube and search for this "Q9650 vs 2500k BC2" in the search bar. This video will illustrate what a processor upgrade (maybe some ram) can do for you. It will entail a new mobo upgrade, but it's a great time to go to the 1155 socket, as even if you get the current Sandybridge, it'll be upgradable to Ivybridge in the future on the same motherboard, which is awesome. If you're lucky and scout around, you can get a mobo and processor for around 300.

@nightjj Oh for 300 bucks that's pretty good~ but it's definitely got zero head room because of its old platform. In other words, you won't really be able to improve it. However if it's got a GTX 295, that right there gives it a boost. Just don't expect to be able to upgrade it much beyond where it's at. The RAM is most likely PC3200 which is expensive these days because they've stopped making them really. But for the price, it's a good PC. It'll definitely play BF3 on Low-Med with ease. (60fps)

@supersolid123 Your processor is holding you back dramatically. Graphics card is also the lower end version of the spectrum. Visit geforce.com~ they got a nice guide on what cards work with what settings.

Bah! 9600Gt is perfect. Game runs almost perfectly when resolution is 1400x something and graphics are low.
It would be nice to find good graphic card that can run this low-medium with 200-300 euros.

@pvtbonner No~ but it doesn't need to. I'm not sure why people think they need to run this game on max settings. Max settings includes nonsense like Motion Blur, and two forms of antialiasing and an ambient occlusion that makes everything fuzzy. Your system will run the game fine on Medium with Textures on High or Ultra. Though if you want 60fps minimum~ you'll have to be comfortable with Medium and certain things on low or off. The game will still look amazing. Beta was locked to Medium.

@sunwellsucks i believe that the gtx295 is better than the 550ti... but the 560ti? the 560ti is better than the 285, but idk about the 295. well, the 560ti has DX11 so thats better.
back to your 550Ti: i wouldnt say it would run "fantastic" (To be honest its below the recommended GTX560 -non TI version-) but it should run at high, 1080p

@strikerk probably will run the max BETA settings pretty fast.. but i dont know about the full game (the beta is locked at mid graphics, it needs a GTX580 to play 60fps+ on ultra maxed on the full one)

FRAPS can be used, it's a piece of software that records 3D applications screens and can take pictures. You could also (if BF3 has this) use the ingame recorder. FRAPS is most recommended choice because it's easier but you do have to pay for it.

@dasbasti1990 Well, like I told Killeruman, try this. Get the 285.27 drivers from Nvidias website. You'll have to go into the section that says Legacy and Beta drivers to find them as they are in between the current and the latest beta. Then set the game to default settings. Then back out of the game. Then go into a game, set it to LOW. All lowest. Then exit the game. Then go back into a game. Tell me how this works out. I noticed, certain settings won't actually take until the game is reloaded.

@killeruman When I ran the latest driver, I get a TON of flicker, and textures jumping around. Also, frames stutter in micro bits (skipping the frames) so that it looks slower than it should. The 285.27 drivers aren't perfect~ but they're currently the best running drivers for my hardware. Hoping for new ones from Nvidia.
Right now, almost any issue visually you're having is not Dice's fault, but Nvidia's lame drivers.

Also, I recommend using the 285.27 drivers from Nvidia. Not the latest ones (the 285.37).

@strikerk Runs about the same. Everything needs to be on low basically to have it run as smoothly as I want it to. I get about 40-50 fps at most unless I'm alone in an area and nothing is going on.

@Dschmizz Well, you still haven't told me your processor. This is a processor intensive game~ and my i5 2500k is overclocked to 4.8ghz, which is no joke. Do not underestimate the processors ability for these titles. On the same video card, I gained 80+ frames going from a q6600 @ 3.0ghz to this i5 2500k in Bad Company 2. That's no joke.

@Smapss This is all on High. :3 Remember though, no DX11 so you won't get any Tesselation or any of those fancy textures. Terrain Detail is locked to Medium and won't go any higher on DX10 cards. Still... who cares?! XD
Also there's a lot of "microstutter" that makes the frames look slower than what they are currently, hope the drivers fix that. :)

Hehe, I can live with that, just bought that 2500k and a new mobo, so gotta save up for a DX11 card, but my 295GTX will do for a bit longer, it's really still a powerful card!

@Smapss I noticed biggest culprits for me with my rig are shadows, HBAO and of course antialiasing. If you drop all those to their lowest, you can put the texture related stuff to Ultra and get 50-60 easily. :3
The 295 still has life in it, and getting a GTX 580 this late seems kind of silly. We should just wait for the kepler cards coming out next year. :)
