Fed Ex???? it´s damn cargo airline. Well i guess their A300 fleet will feel at home among the rest of the old shitty fleet Fed Ex is flying around with.
Makes me wonder where the hell did AA come up with the money for 260 new planes. I guess the passengers will suffer even more in the future with higher ticket prices, have to pay for everything, a new low in customer service, more AA employees getting fired to come up with the cash. A couple of new Airbus and Boeing planes can´t save AA from total disaster, only a major change in their attitude towards the customers can but i really think it´s to late.
Great A300??? BULLSHIT!!!. Not a single big airline today use the A300 anymore since they are crap and belong in a airplane graveyard. The only reason AA is getting rid of them is because AA is to cheap to maintain them to AA standard. Just look at the rest of the AA fleet, old worn out MD-80´s, 757, first generation Boeing 777, old shabby Boeing 767´s that are falling apart. AA is a airline that is falling apart, barely two stars at Skytrax in 2011 and is about to lose one more says it all.
@Sooksawaspakdee961 You're kidding me right? You realize AA is currently taking deliveries of 737-800's and has 777-300's and 787's on order and is currently in talks for 250 new aircraft to replace MD80 and 757's?
@Sooksawaspakdee961 AAAHHHHHHHHHHHH ... u make me cry ... i didnt know they were retiring the MD-80s and the 757s ... my two favorite planes of all time ... wtf
If they ask me to choose a single aircraft to represent the face of 20th century aviation, it will have to be A300 .... such a classic looking airplane
A-300 was a great plane to fly and work , but had lots of manteinance issues ; everytime I got on one of them for a flight , delays , cancelled flights, manteinance issues......
@neweast1 pretty much.. my dad works for AA and he said they want to become an "All Boeing Fleet", and AA doesnt care much for airbus. md-80s have leases until 2020, 3/4 of the md-80s will be replaced by the new 737 and the rest by the boeing y1 in 2018
I have flown with AA several times, Apart from Continental, AA is one of my favorite Airlines! they are very nice and I got to my destinations on time..and in two cases 1/2 an hour early!..now thats service!
@maryoassyrian2007 | It broke apart because the towered clear it to take off when a 747 had already taken off. The wake effect left by the 747 created flutter vibration which the A300 was not certified for and the result was catastrophic, don't be so quick to judge one aircraft for all. Take care my friend.
@faostube | Just to add to my post. Wake effect is so dangerous that during my flight training when ever I got to land in front of a larger aircraft, I was always instructed to keep my flight path higher and the touch down point a little further than from the larger aircraft in front of me. This is done to avoid entering the wake turbulence left over the larger aircraft otherwise your plane shakes all over the place and in some cases you can loose control!
We all know that the service on AA droped a whole lot, the airline almost went out of business after 9-11, they had to make some changes for the airline to survive, the staff of AA lost a lot of perks salary holiday etc. by now they should have tried to improve the service because it really is bad buttttttttt AA will always be the number 1 carrier in the USA be cause it is something speacial in the air.
I have mixed feelings about the A300, I flew one from JFK to PR and it there was a delay, cause the piots were not quailfied on that aircraft, cause the cockpit is different from the other boeings that they have, it took a hour to get the piot, and we left almost 2 hours late...I am a big fan of the A330-300, I flew a US Airways one to PR and it was great, I think American should get the A330-300 as a replacement for the A300, its very similar in apperance....
Thank god. The airbus is the greatest piece of shit ever made. Manufactured in about 15 different countries. No wonder the rudder fell off on that one AA A300 that killed 250 some people. I love AA, the first in the sky and most likely the last after these other airlines fail.
@510kidscry It was cleared to take off immediately after a 747. Then, while in wake turbulence, the pilot used excessive force on the rudders (a whole lot more than recommended) and the rudder broke off. The pilot hadn't been trained properly on the A300 and AA had ignored Airbus' warnings and recommendations regarding rudder sensitivity on the A300. The rudder on the A300 is fastened the same way it is on other Airbuses and Boeings, but the controls are more sensitive in speed.
I'm a former ticket/gate agent from JFK, and I must say, the A300 was such a headache, especially on the JFK-LHR route (flt 132) Also, it was such a black eye for AA, I still find myself sad about flight 587. The A300 was all about cargo space for AA. Great cargo space for the Latin American routes. Glad to see it will fly off into the sunset......
Me and another JFK F/A had such a long delayed on the ground we thought up a bunch of nicknames for the A-300. Scare-bus,Repair-bus,On a wing and a prayer-bus,Fly if you dare-bus,Your life is your fare-bus,I wish i wasnt here-bus...just to name a few.
LOL, I remember those long delays... all pax were onboard, only to offload everyone, and everything (OTS) and look for a replacement (as if they grew on trees) It was an everyday occurance. In my opinion, Airbus in general are crappy planes. No comparison to the 777.
Sad, sad, sad. I've flown MIA-SDQ on AA's A300s a few times and loved every minute of it. They are well-built and comfortable. Airbus Industrie had a state-of-the-art product in its A300/A310 series.
yea the european and asian airlines i look at didnt have their planes flone into fucking buildings, which completely collapsed the us airline industry. American has done the best it can as they suffer 8 years later. A job far better than any other airline could handle if they endured the same catastrophe. IDIOT

american airlines suck!
all the CEO's and people running the company are very greeddy people.
they are cheap. and what you pay for is what you get on american airlines.
you dont even get food on 5 hour flights.
sigh...

if other airlines are giving food and remarkable service, and then we come back to american airlines to compare it, its a 1 star airline!
i dont care if its a resturaunt or not.
look at some of the major asian and european airlines.
american airlines cant even compete! on 6 hour flights you cant even get a decent meal.
