• I am the 69,666 viewer! I will soon be memorable like her too.

  • i didn't know aaliyah before she died, i would be honest but after her death i got her CD cos i went to see mark morrisson. He came to my country in africa and performed and mentioned that aaliyah had died the previous night...after listening to her CDs (over and over again) i couldn't help but love all the songs! I understood it all and even my bro told me to stop looking at aaaliyah pics and the CD cover otherwise i might see her ghost or something but didn't care. Still love her in 2012. ;)

  • I was 11 when I purchased Aaliyah's last album, and tbh when I first listened to it I only liked half of the songs. But as I got older and and understood the lyrics more and listened to the production I was like wow. She was so ahead of her time. Every song is hot, and sounds like it could of came out today. I was at the mall the other day here in Tx, and they were playing loose rap in one of the stores. Goes to show you how timeless her music is.

  • @tazzy198525 Aaliyah was Aaliyah, can't be duplicated, Beyonce is Beyonce 2 different vocally artists, Had Aaliyah been here them 2 would be neck to neck in my opinion, but that doesn't make Aaliyah a Beyonce and for the fact Aaliyah was a solo artists before she was

    -_-...

  • Flawless mixture of Pop, R&B, and Nu Metal.

    Aaliyah = Greatness -3

  • This song is soooooooooooo HOT! It's the perfect combination of hip-hop and rock. Go head Aaliyah! R.I.P. rt.

  • Babygirl!!!!!!

  • OMG this is My Favorite one.

  • aaliyah is my number one inspiration in singing of all time.

  • i fucking love this song. The entire album is still hot today.

  • this really was the best album of that year ! and one of the best albums of the 2000's , every song was great !

  • Sick! This Whole Album Is Superb Giving You Slow Melodic Vibes Like It's Whatever And Rock The Boat, Edgy Music Like What If, WNAR, I Can Be, Read Between The Lines As Well As Urban Pop Like More The A Woman And Ofcourse Ballades Like Never No More And I Refuse(Also Edgy As Well) Her Direction Along With Her Movies Were All Heading In The Right Direction As An Entertainer. Unique Original Style And Still Referenced To 10 Years Later <3 /.\

  • this video actually matches the song. thumbs up

  • Go babygirl!!!!

  • i hate how she left r&b and i also saw a pic of her without her shirt on.....u might as well say she was another beyounce

  • @oohotlikefireoo Are you talking about Aaliyah?? Hell No and dont ever say she was another beyonce fuck that...Aaliyah was Aaliyah No damn Beyonce 2 opposites if thats what yur trying to refer....

  • @TheLnMShow1 Of course its Aaliyah! It's a song off of her last album!

  • @tee85 So does this mean Lil Wayne copied her too with his hip hop rock music? And how does Rihanna act like she created it?

  • This song is totally different from the rest of her songs but I love it =') rip baby girl ily so much

  • DONT EVEN ACT LIKE RIHANNA WASNT INFLUENCED BY AALIYAH... FOR ANYONE 2 THINK THAT HAS 2 BE REALLY NAIVE.. U JUST TRYNA HOLD ON 2 UR LAST HOPES FOR THAT BITCH.. AND HOW U GONNA COMPARE RIHANNA WEN SHE TALKIN BOUT HAVING SEX IN THE AIR AND SHIT.. SHES CLEARLY A WHORE..ALWAYS DOING SKEEZER SHIT.. KIDS ARE LISTENIN 2 HER BULLSHIT.. WAT DO U MAKE OF THAT?

  • @Flai32 Aaliyah>Rihanna.... But how do you explain Rock the Boat, those are some pretty sexual lyrics.

  • @Rsaint17 Rock the Boat was very sexual but at least Aaliyah portrayed it in a way young kids can interpret it and adults as well...When you were little u didnt get what she was saying because the lyrics to you wasn't directing about sex but as you got older your like "Oh ok now I get it" so therefore either way she was smart unlike other artists who throw the word sex in the song and naming body parts which she didn't do.

  • @Flai32 That's not really fair to say because we will never know what direction Aaliyah would have gone. Rihanna got older when she started singing about more sexual things. Aaliyah recorded this in 2000/2001 when she was 21/22. Things change. Times have changed.

  • Rhianna whole dark side is act Aaliyah's real.Since the begining of Aaliyah career She always been dark and mysterious her signature style. When rhianna came out she was not the artist she is todayShe was all bubbly and cute and you could barely understand her. After the chris brown incident she become idk free i guess. But Aaliyah always been dark from the start

  • Dope song ily aaliyah I will always be a fan rip baby girl

  • Hot!! Love that last dance move u threw in there it went perfectly frm are u that somebody..

  • @phatboi973 thanks! I was surprised myself when I threw that in there lol

  • hold up, wth?? I know ya'll are NOT arguin' on my video! either respect that fact that people got different opinions, like the video, or gtfo. all this DRAMA is just EXTRA!

  • @tee85 En Vogue with Free Your Mind is an original mix of RnB and rock. I love Liyah too but stop acting like all the other female singers are trying to be like her I bet Rihanna didn't even think of Aaliyah when she started doing this

  • @Fodemanga Ok!! very pointless first of all did I say every female was trying to be like Aaliyah NO I DID NOT.... I'm speaking of Rihanna ... Secondly Rihanna did take that same style that Aaliyah spoke of creating as a SOLO ARTIST and bring it to mainstream pop...En Vogue had a song, Aaliyah spoke of making it a style which is what Rihanna attempted to do and failed MISERABLY with bad reviews...Aaliyah's presence was very evident in that whether you agree or not it is what it is..

  • @tee85 But you did say "I can't recal anyone mixing the 2 before", speaking of RnB and rock, well En Vogue did. And I still don't think Rihanna was thinking about Aaliyah when she changed her style. Does the fact Aaliyah was one of the first (maybe the first) to have that syle mean than other stars don't have the right to have that same style? There is only so much you can do

  • @Fodemanga free your mind was not a mix of rnb and rock. It was RnB singers making a rock song. There's a difference. This song and and I can be are both songs that are RnB but have a little rock going on at the same time.

  • @aliyu123 Ok for I can be, but then you could also say What if is a rock song. And don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of Aaliyah, but I'm tired of people acting as if she was the first to do it all and call other copycats when there is just a slight resemblance and I'm sure they weren't even thinking of her. (by the way I guess there are some MJ and Janet songs that can be considered rock/rnb)

  • @Fodemanga While I agree that people put Aaliyah on this really high pedestal. I still by what I said. The whatif song has rnb like vocals over a tough rock beat.

  • @aliyu123 And I agree with you (lol after you saaid it I realized FYM was actually arock song). But MJ and Janet did that before her (and I'm sure we could find others, maybe less famous, who did it to befre Aaliyah). So to say Rihanna was influenced by Liyah on this is pure assumption (and probably not true)

  • @Fodemanga I do think she was influenced by her. She said so herself. It's not so much the rock but the whole dark edgy thing Aaliyah had going which wasnt so common then. Either way I think Rihanna is unique but all artists are influenced to some extent by those before them and I do believe Aaliyah had quite a bit of influence on many artists today.

  • yeeah!!! Aaliyah knew was ahead in the music because I listen for more nome bored she is a legend and that must have sounded the R&B now. Not all of this electronic garbage mixed in the R&B.For me there are no other this is the R&B, 2011. And indeed it does not sound like the sounds of 2000, well yes it is "U Got Nerve".

  • The best blend of r&b and rock. This album is classic.

  • I hate a lying dude, one who doesn't know the rules

if you gon cheat burn the receipt from the hotel room

but instead you're up in my face saying you were at friends

but they all call asking me where da hell u been

Why they keep treatin us this way

HOT GRITS IS A NEW GAME WE'LL PLAY

We'll burn you (oh), we'll cut you (oh)

    we'll kill you (oh)

we don't have to take it no more

  • @tee85 agreed!

  • way before her time omgg! this song is so eerie in the way that it would fit perfectly if it was released today.

  • Kick ass vid btw!

  • EnVouge pioneered the mix of lady RnB and rock in the eeeaaarrrly 90's with "Free Your Mind". Janet and Paula Abdul both have "edgy" stuff. But Aaliyah did somethin special with this mayne! B4 ashanti's "only U" and rihanna was a true innovator!

  • @Jsoulchild I love this song but I was thinking Janet did this all the time on her albums. She mixed r&b and rock many times. This is still a hot song and would have been a dope video

  • EnVouge- Free Yo Mind blends the 2 genres and it was in early early 90's. Can't credit Aaliyah for it. She did it well n e how. I LOVE "I Can Be" even more!

  • @tee85 i agree, but i like rihanna lol & idthink she really stole the idea, she just wanted to be different, y'know. but aye, no other female artist can top Liyah so it don't even matter lol

  • @bestplaceproductions its not like Rihanna even makes her own music.. she just sings the lyrics someone else made for her to a beat someone else also made for her

  • @kiLLuminati28 so did aaliyah...

  • @Rsaint17 true.. so nobody is robbing anyone of any ideas cuz its not theirs anyway lol

  • @kiLLuminati28 pretty much

  • this is nice...i lik how you matched certain dances to the rhythm of this song. it was cool 2 watch..

  • love dis aaliyah da best

  • Love that guitar. Is that Lil Kim on the couch in the "if your girl" video?

  • @mekatj yep that's Kim

  • Back 2001 it wasn't really popular or cool to mix R&B with rock....she was so innovative. It's so sad we didn't get to see what else she would do :(

  • This song was so ahead of it's time.

  • nice,video song everything

    good job with the video!!

  • this music used to scar me as a lil kid. i surprise i member the words

  • this is the kind of rock groove that Aaliyah pioneered

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!! Aaliyah was so special. RIP♥

  • I've always wondered what this song meant, exactly.. I know it's dark, and I hear the line "We'll burn ya, we'll gut you, we'll kill you".. but, what's it about? Men? lol.

  • @XvMystarEgovX

the song is about a cheating man. and aaliyah threatens to murder him.

  • very hot video..I LOVE this song..Its also one that is very hard to make a video to because of its so different from her videos..But you did really well I enjoyed it. Man before Rihanna and Disturbia or Breakin Dishes, Beyonce and Sweet Dreams or Ciara and Go Girl..there was this bad-assed chick right here, and What If...Love you Aaliyah they still copyin you love..they always will..Always imitated, never duplicated..She was on a whole other LEVEL..Rest In Peace angel..We miss you.

  • KUDOS!! And she was the most gorgeous, most smooth, and ORIGINAL to do that! She was never seen as phony like Beyonce, weird like Rihanna, or trying too hard like Ciara. No offense, I like them all just stating the truth. Too bad she had to pass away for the WORLD to see it though =(
