no!not the APU!i know about the APU.on 0:56 you can see a like small black dot rotating on the tip of the vertical fin or rudder. I usually see this thing on test flights.
Yeah there often seems to be a little parachute on a length of rope - maybe to monitor the air movement over the tail surfaces? I would not be surprised if they have a camera recording its motion during the flight. I have seen it on other test aircraft too.
THAT THING IS THE EXHAUST OF THE AUXILIARY POWER UNIT or known as the "APU" which located in edge of the tail section.. APU precisely acts as a battery to the engine.
on first flights they don't usually put the gear up. they are trying to limit variables because systems have not been tested yet. as far as the wing flex goes, the aircraft is flying light, meaning not much fuel. the fuel tanks are in the wings, so without much fuel that much wing flex is normal. the wings actually become stronger with more fuel.
"ala ack-bar" or ala-ack-hu-ack-bar" is nonsense! LOL!!! It can only truly be "JESUS-CHRIST-HU-AKBAR". No need to praise SHYTAN (aka Satan) aka allah. LOL. The Aircraft is great.
I would have liked more of the radio communications and less cheering and announcer. We obviously can see the plane was taking off and don't need to be told that.
There's nothing wrong with using Silver Stars as chase planes. They're simple, easy to maintain, and cheap to operate. I've flown in them five times to do air-to-air photo missions and they're excellent in that role. The visibility is far better than from a bizjet, they're very maneuverable, and they're faster than almost all bizjets (and cheaper than them all, too).
So... the big deal of this thing is the better mpg. Right? And since this is the first flight, even the improved fuel savings is just conjecture. Let's just wait and see what the performance is like after its been taken around the block a couple of times.

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology:
(1) Why do we love flying?
(2) Why do we always want to design new aeroplanes?
(3) Why do we think that building new aeroplane is a representation of success?
(4) What do we prove through designing and building new aeroplane?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

is there a problem with the landing gear!!!!!!!!!
Engelton182 2 years ago
That normal for first flight, just in case things goes wrong. They just want to try flying it first.
All first test flight this way, especially if its the first of it kind.

Must say Boeing make one superb airplane, hope I could be one in acceptance test flight. Did a few 37 in Boeing Fields, great aircraft this 787.

is that much wing flex normal. Wonder how much they will flex with that thing fully loaded with people and luggage?

In addition to the angle of dihedral, the wings flex up a lot. The wingtips look like they're about 8 feet higher than the fuselage.

When executing a first flight, the test plan does not call for this. This is done in subsequent test flights. Jon

Guydabest, that was a Canadair CT-133 Silver Star owned by Boeing and used as a chase plane. It's the Canadian version of the Lockheed T-33A T-Bird.
JeffRL1956 2 years ago
Ironic that they were using ancient T-33s as a chase aircraft with the most advanced airliner ever built.
