He was sentenced to 8 years with no mention of parole eligibility. The parole board wouldn't grant parole anyway; he was already serving 4 goddammn years for -- guess what? Weed and PAROLE VIOLATION.
He got credit for time served; possibly up to 29mo. 96-29=67mo. 67/12 = 5y,7m that he still has to serve at the least.
