That was very irresponsible. I know it's hard to resist the temptation of facing hurricane force winds. I have given in to it myself during cat. 4 hurricane Michelle. But 10 seconds of exposure to this kind of winds make you realize that at any given moment, any airborne object (and there are hundreds when the hurricane is going through) becomes a projectile and can kill you if they make contact with you.

well, in theory it's fun like being in a wind tunnel. But the problem is, in winds that strong (sustained wind speeds of 140+mph with gusts of 215mph on the Sunday that Katrina was category 5), the tiniest piece of debris will hit you like a bullet

Katrina was a Category 1 at this time. I believe with sustained winds in the range of 75-80 mph.

The storm would later get much stronger with winds peaking at 175 mph over the gulf.
