  • A few points:

    1. Abraham giving a tithe to the priest was not on what he owned but on proceeds from war.

    2. True that tithes mentioned in the bible has to do with agricultural product - of course u can say that ur fruits are whatever u earn.

    3. Jesus said about the leaders at the time - you tithe but forsake the more important matters of law, I (Jesus) would rather you guys observe law (mercy etc) as well as tithe.

If anything, a christian can/would tithe just because Jesus condoned it!

  • Regarding your numbered points. On your point 1, Abraham kept none of it for himself. He did not keep the other 90%.

    2. In the OT they could also have given off anything earned, but they didn't... so why now make it a rule?

    3. Jesus lived as one under the law. His death and resurrection is what brought in the new world order (salvation by grace, not works).

  • Jesus said in mathew 23:23 that tithing was of the law and there is no way around that.He would not let the disciples carry their purses and if your going to collect the tithe you would need them!

  • Only those who had crops and flocks tithed. Fishermen did not tithe. The temple tax is different than a tithe. Jesus and his disciples did not tithe; they were poor. They gleened the fields, which is allowed only for the poor.

  • "The average church member trusts their preacher...they don't question it...they really ought to...do their own research and study this out for themselves"

    AMEN!!!

  • the reason why the average person does not question their pastor, is because it's a scare tactic. a pastor that i know of talks about pastoral authority. he says that to talk about what a pastor preached about or talked about to the congregation is actually touching God not man. but yet again he will tell the congregation not to always believe everything he says.he makes it very confusing for the congregation.

  • When confronting the Pastor, remind him he said "... not always believe everything he says." It is the truth. Confront him with Bible verses. The Bible doesn't teach that we are to tithe today. Whatever verse he brings up will be out of context, so break it down for him.
