great music... I really think that Crawler 1977 album is quite not far of bein' a a big classic album ...
The first 3 Charlie albums are good but the third is becomin' nearly too sweet for my taste their 4th in 79 is not really my cup of tea...
As Crawler break up in dec.78 ...i just imagine how good Charlie was goin' to be if Terry Slesser joined Charlie at that moment... it would be perfect....there was a big potential here...unfortunately Slesser joined only 4 years later ...after the war
hahaha... just yesterday I unearthed a "mix tape" I had made back in about 1984, and this song was on it. still an excellent song, and so very cool that some of the musicians have checked in here to comment.
Terry was one of the undiscovered greatest british rock singers, his work on this album was really incredible, i think that his voice was necessary for other rock albums. You know, sometimes there are good songs but bad singers and i think that Terry could make great every song he do.
"inevitable", YEAH, THAT was the word I was looking for. This stupid video was always in my mind but I could never remember the name of this song. It's strange that I just remember the video. Now that I have seen it, I remember the song.
Thanks for posting this video, Mr. Slesser. I remember it from my days as a pre-teen when MTV was the coolest thing on TV. You had to have had a blast doing this video. It's too bad Charlie was snubbed in America. At least you guys scored a Top 40 pop single & 5 of your albums hit the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart too. Not bad for a band that not many Americans know all that much about.
I literally haven't heard this since it came out, but every so often it "earworms" me, so I finally got around to tracking it down here. I've been cursed/blessed with what I jokingly call an "audiographic" memory...
Thank you for this video. I had tried so hard ti find it I actually was starting to think I had imagined the whole thing. Glad to see it here and Vibrant
@terryslesser This is a great song and video! I loved it enough to look it up and am so pleased that it was there! Takes me back to wonderful times....and might I say that Huey Lewis is a great part of those memories as well!!!
Oh boy.. back in the day when MTV actually had MUSIC VIDEOS. Yes. Music Videos. And if MTV hadn't had music videos in the day, no one would have ever heard this song. LOVE this song. Thanks for sharing it with the world.
Oh these wanna be 80's bands. Not fare to quote that they were lost artists in that new after disco age, because from the random and intentional selection of all these pretenders 80's gave us many of the greatest bands and singers we still admire...
Got mine about a month ago now... the album is really wonderful. Every song is a keeper and Terry's voice is as good as ever. The lyrics are angry but not without that ol' Charlie sense of humor. A chorus of "is Robbie Williams gay" of all things and so damned memorable it'll stay in your head for eons!
I have 4 or 5 albums of this band and would like to buy cd's as well. Nowhere to be found. Guess I have to make them myself CAUSE THIS IS GREAT 80's MUSIC!!!!!!!
Hacia mucho tiempo que no escuchaba esta canción, y de repente escuchando unas cuantas antiguas canciones de A.O.R. me acorde de esta canción, que en su dia me gusto mucho.
Ahh Charlie, kings of the cutout bins! Loved their album covers... Still love the albums Lines, Fight Dirty and Good Morning America and have ALWAYS wanted to know more about these guys... how frequently did they play live in the UK? Did they tour America? I'd love to have seen them circa Fight Dirty or back in the Lines days... ahh good good stuff and a reminder of my youth.
Such a great 80's song that was so forgotten. I listened to the countdown when it dropped out and Casey Kasem corrected the chart mishap. Great memories from a billboard freak! Thanx so much
Thanks for the great post! I remember seeing this video on MTV back around 1983. It was a fun video to watch then, and still is now. It's more enjoyable to watch than most of what's being aired in 2008.
corpsvalue, believe it or not, but I also remember that AT40 glitch! I listened to AT40 religiously at the time. Too bad we didn't get to hear it then, but can again, thanks to youtube.
I remember hearing this song on American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. I loved the song and no local radio stations played it. So, I got the next issue of Billboard, saw the song moved up to #35 on the chart. I tuned into AT40 the following weekend, #35 rolled around, and AT40 played "Pieces of Ice" by Diana Ross! That's right, the people who produce AT40 made a mistake! The following week they apologized for the error, but by then, the Charlie song fell out of the Top 40. Thanks for posting this!
I think I saw this video only once back in the early days of MTV, but it made such a big impression on me that I managed to remember the band name and song title all this time. I thought I was very clever for figuring out in the first 15 seconds that the fancy layer cake would have to be destroyed for any song called "It's Inevitable." The fellow licking his fingers with relish is a nice bit of acting business. Thanks for bringing back High School memories, Terry.
Oh my Gosh !!! I absolutely LOVE this video / song .. and still have the original album with this .. and I carry a copy of my CD for it in my car all the time. My kids even love it !! LOL :)
Thanks so much for posting the video for this great song that Charlie did .. :D
thanx for that Diax8, it was definitely that-it had to be done in 'One take'-also for obvious reasons-you cant get the pies.check out terryslesser webeden couk..albums
@Diax8 This is Charlie's biggest American single. It should be available at iTunes. It's found on the band's "Anthology" CD which is semi-rare but still available for purchase at Renaissance Records home page. I regret not buying the "Anthology" disc when it was available at Barnes & Noble online. There are other online retailers that have the CD though. I think Best Buy online still has it. I know Amazon does.
man I used to hear this song all the time back in the 80's on KSJO radio Best of the Bay in So Cal. Always liked the keyboards & rockin' sound of the band. The song still sounds *great* even to this day. Much better than what passes for 'music' nowadays <sigh..> and its 25 years old! You just don't get good music like this anymore unfortunately. Rock on
You know... This is a song that should be remade TODAY. It was so far ahead of its time in '83 that it would ROCK hard today re-released. (If ever there was a song that should be redone, its this one)
Terry, Is there any way I can get the MP3 for this song from you? I would LOVE to have that. I'm willing to pay for it.... If so, I'll send you an email on your site.
I've never seen this one before or know what album it's from. I loved Charlie in the 70's especially the 'No second chance' album. I wonder if they did any other video's?
It's Inevitable is one of my high school faves (I have the 45). I have been trying to find this song for over a year on any MP3 website to no avail. Will Charlie's music ever be available for purchase in MP3 format? Thanks for posting here.
One of my all time favorite albums. I had Spend My Life With You played at my wedding for the last dance. It's great to finally see a video from this underrated album. Love it.
