I want to see her run again in 2031!!! Her two hundreth birthday! I want to see any modern loco match what The John Bull has acomplished! But I want her to run under her original name, Stephens, and they may have even more boiler issues than in 1981. John Bull first ran at circa 70 PSI, but due to her condition in 81' she only ran at 50 PSI. I hope she will be able to at least move on her own steam, that would be so amazing! Steam will never die!! :D
How amazing to see the cinders flying, the whistle blowing, I just wish I could have heard her bell!! I can almost smell the wood burning, and feel the pure joy of bringing her back to life after all those years, how exciting!!! I just wish I could have been on that footplate that day!! :D But they really changed her tender, it looks nothing like the original, but it is the famous engine that really matters. I hope they show her in steam for her next anniversary!!
@Knexpert1000 No, actually the original Dewitt Clinton locomotive was scrapped just two years after she was first ran. :( So the only Dewitt Clinton loco now would be a replica of the original, not a real antique. But you are right though, if the original loco still existed, she would be the oldest by about a year.
The John Bull runs on present day railroad gauge tracks! I checked Wikipedia and the current standard is 4 feet, 8 1/2 inches, measured between the inside dimensions of the two rails and dates to the standard gauge agreed upon for the Liverpool and Manchester R.R. in 1830, also according to Wikipedia. Apparently, they built these engines to last!!
