Wonderful from start to finish! We at Maypole Hill, at Merrymount in Quincy Mass., hope that all you folks feel wholly invited to participate with us in celebrating Thomas Morton of Merrymount on or around May 1st each year---he was the first to practice these traditions in America! Contact at ANCIENT LIGHTS dot o-r-g
Hope u all know... the POLE they are all dancing, toughing, climbing on, is a symbol for an ERECT COCK! It's a sex fertility ritual.. Maybe tame these days but it's said, back in the day, they used to do this naked, have a massive orgy ,eat human flesh and other crazy things. These people look they came straight out of the movie the wickerman.
A fellow Pagan invited me to her coven's Beltane celebration this year! It's a pretty small group, I believe, so I was thrilled to hear we'll be having a Maypole! The first time I'm actually celebrating a Sabbat with a group of people <3
@TiffanyDoll - What takes ten minutes of forever watching in a chair takes a very-quick ten minutes when dancing! This is a participatory experience, and the time flies in the Dance :)
I would love to take part in this...I unfortunately live in a community where something like this would never be allowed. I want so badly to move far away so I can celebrate the things that truly speak out to me, but right now I can't afford to. I'd like so much to just drop everything here and GO, even if I had to go all the miles on my own two feet...and if some change doesn't come soon, I may do just that. I feel like I'm suffocating here.
@anyways345 I live in Central Texas-in a very conservative area. Most people here are catholic, or some form of christian, and anything outside of that is freakish or evil. I live in the kind of small town where people still believe in exorcisms.
@Nyghtshade409 I understand you, many people are like that in Mexico as well, the conservative Catholics of my home state were very strict, anyone who was not Catholic was considered an outkast, which is why I am glad my family and I lived in an area of Indigenous Oaxacans, we all knew each other and performed our rituals in peace.
Watching this, not only the dance itself but everyone else - the band, the girl sitting on the ground, and so on - I feel something familiar; something that touches my Pagan soul. I've only participated in the Maypole dance once, and it was not very good as it was not a pole but a ribbon at a local public circle. It was fun and chaotic, but this is magical.
This looks amazing!! From putting on the wreath down to the 'orgasmic' music and fast circling in the end. Marvellous! I hope to one day experience a Beltane pole dance just like it! :) Thank your for sharing!
Beautiful, we have our own Maypole in Idaho :x love to you in Glastonbury!
