I followed these simple steps and also replaced the shutoff valves to newer, longer lasting ball cutoff valves. It's also important to use silicone sealant instead of plumber's putty because the putty may discolor many resin sinks over time. Amazing how much simpler it is to do replacements/repairs than even ten years ago. Now where's the main house water cutoff valve.......
