@jacktheguitarman that seems odd. I just create a new track, choosing "guitar", choose the preset, set the track monitor on (and feedback protection off, generally), and hit record. I've never noticed a problem setting it up to play in real time.
@ChristiaanBerghuis I've actually gone back to flatpicks. I used a thumbpick for a while after seeing videos of the amazing Scotty Anderson (I highly recommend checking him out)
@87sherwood There is a lot of string noise, true. It's hard to get enough volume to overpower the string noise but not so much that it's impossible to hear me talk
... yet another reason I shouldn't talk in my videos ;-)
@tsumabiken what you could do for not hearing the sound of the strings so much is turn up the volume of the recorded guitar so you dont have to turn down the mic you record your voice :D
@tsumabiken thanks for the reply! I was experimenting with thumb picks the same way and made some good picks for my hand.
I had a real hard time keeping a consistent shape and feel between picks so I decided to switch back to profound awe-in-ones or big stubbys again... I will check out Scotty Anderson.
Good playing dude, How do you get garageband just to play out like that? I can get it to play out loud, i have to record and then play it and then its like distorted etc. Thanks
@BlangeMess Not quite sure what you mean, sorry. I had the input for Garageband set to the line in - and my guitar plugged into that - but iMovie recording from the built-in microphone
@BlangeMess if I understand what youre asking, you plug your guitar directly into the input on your computer, then send the output (the plug that your speakers go into) into your amp. When you play, the garageband effects come out your amp. I feel like it may damage my laptop sometimes, so I dont do it a whole lot.
hey man cool stuff. you seem to be pretty good at getting that hard rock/almost 80's metalish sound (as close as you can really get with a computer modified amp) so maybe you can help me with my problem. i cant seem to get the good old 80's-90's metal and todays metal sound or even close using garageband. its like chines to me. if you could tell me what you did and how its all set up exactly that would be great. hell even a user manual would be nice
wicked sound, good blues/rock/well good liked it my friend another cool post, you got some cool skills on that plank of wood nice work keep it up mate. .(col)\m/

@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 Believe me you will never get one out of GarageBand or Logic plug ins. Get one of the free VSTs online. They're much better.

@samathanwataguan Any recommendations?

@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 Amplitube is one you have to pay for. Just search 'free amp simulator vst' on youtube for links.

Cool! Which thumb pick is this? did you file the pick?
0Orion 1 year ago
@0Orion I actually don't know the brand of the thumbpick. It is indeed filed down (well, cut and sanded) - a la Scotty Anderson

cool.. I am wondering how many cables are you using from the guitar to the imac, and what does it look like
stinkybigfootage 2 years ago
@stinkybigfootage just one with 1/4" and a headphone size may be all
stinkybigfootage 2 years ago
@stinkybigfootage A normal guitar cable, and an adaptor from an electronics store going from a 6.5mm jack socket to a 3.5mm plug 8)

Hey mate. The setting I had there was:
Amp model - British Gain
Pre Gain 7.4
Low 6.9
Mid 4.4
High 7.0
Presence 5.9
Master 2.7
My guitar runs straight into the line in on my iMac, and well, that was it. 8)
Hope that helps 8)
