  • I love the mountain gorilla because they are intelligent, capable of humanlike emotion, peaceful and incredibly powerful creatures. I hate being human for many reasons: We destroy, pollute, kill, overtake, overpopulate, cause war and we create horrific diseases and we are unnecessarily greedy. We make trophies out of animals, hold them in captivity and poke fun at them. And we have even enslaved members of our own kind. Humanity is a disease out of control.

  • @rdrom70 i see your point, and its sad, but even apes such as the chimpanzee are prone to unecessary violence. They all have their own personalities, but even some in the wild attack other chimps over very human-like matters like territory or food.

  • thank you for the delineating descriptions of the great apes, and for the lovely photographs. sadhu!

  • Kinda makes me think.....like if the bible is true, and only humans get "saved"...What about these animals who are so intelligent and have emotions also....shouldnt they also become saved, or is this just a world without a god...

  • why does everyone slit up the pan genus but not pongo or gorilla. and everyone forgets about homo.

great ape is a family with 4 genuses. pongo (bornean and sumatran orangutans), gorilla (western and eastern), pan (chimpanzee and bonobo), and homo (humans).

there are 7 species of great apes, 4 genuses. i dont get why people always group the two pongos and two gorillas together as one but separate the pan speices. and gibbons are lesser apes, a different family with like 30 species or somethin

  • bobobos are 3 times stronger than humans while chimps are 5 times stronger humans

  • please someone tell me what is a bonobo and how do they differ from chimps ?

  • @StonedOfJordan Detailed information is in the comments

  • WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT A CHIMP OR A ORANGUTAN ?

  • You forgot humans!

  • How tragic, how indescribably tragic, that these creatures are in such peril from our species, homo sapiens. Shall they ultimately be casualties of our cruel and bloody dominion of this planet? Oh that a world would come to pass where apes and men could live together in harmony. That remains my dream; may it become a reality!

  • @atticana u soundly like some idiot from fukin peta...

  • Chimpanzees are extremely aggressive, Bonobos like Gorillas and Orangtans are extremely peaceful. Ironic we are closer related to the Bonobo than the Chimpanzee.

  • no we arent chimps are our closest relatives

  • I wish I could come back in like 2 million years and see Bonobos arguing wether they are on the great apes list or not in comments on Youtube...

  • beautiful animals!!!

  • Damn I can't imagine all that strength packed into a chimpanzee compared to a human twice it's size.

  • Honestly, fully grown chimps are huge!!!

  • @liantlian Considering we share 99% of their DNA, I would say the human diet is the reason. Chimpanzees eat foods high in sugar, fiber, water, and vitamins, and humans eat food high in protein and fat. I've seen some people who eat the way chimps do on youtube here (look up "raw food diet" if you're interested), and although they are extremely strong compared to their body weight, they are very skinny. I think the reason is because no-one is as physically active as chimps.

  • @daregularperson But thier is somthing that makes us diffrent its wierd but i think i know what ! o and chimps eat meat btw if you didnt know they desire meat over anything

  • 0:55 nice scarf :)

  • why did we need to see the ass crack of the gorilla @ 1:30?

  • Humans are great apes as well the 4 great apes are Chimpanzees, Gorillas, Orangutan, and HUMANS.... I guess were no longer good enough to make the list anymore :[

  • Humans are not apes. That's why they are looking for a missing link between humans and apes. Sorry to ruin your quest for fire with facts, but please feel free to fling poo and pick nits.

  • @baileyh7 Hahahahaha. Humans are not apes? Go read a biology or anthropology book child and let us know what you find in its great bowels.

  • Yes, we are. We ARE within the group we call apes, though we split off long ago from them. Also, we're not looking for a link between humans and apes, we are looking for intermediates between our common ancestor with the other great apes (as well as that common ancestor). Missing link is such a stupid term.

  • @baileyh7 "missing link" people make me rofl.

  • i know right, can you believe this guy

  • lol obviously you know very little about anthropology. missing link ! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

go back to school, read a little more, and watch a little less discovery channel

  • Bonobo are a species of great ape, If humans count that would make 5.

  • love that song

  • @Thelavendel What's the name of the song?

  • hey we are also the great apes

  • have we all forgotten, that we humans are great apes as well. apes are awesome i'm glad we are in that family of species.

  • were not.

  • i wonder how strong a bonobo is

  • Maybe less than a chimp with more upper body strength than a human, but maybe not stronger than our legs. But that Gibbon could kill you with its scream!!!

  • Every time I see the body of a male gorilla, I can't help but think it looks like a very large and muscular human.

  • Are you sure, that the video is a documentary and no bestiality-festish-vid?

  • There are actually 2 species of gorillas and 2 of orangutans, not one of each.

  • and 2species of chimps and so on....

at least 2 species of howler monkeys and at least 2 species of gibbons....

  • you mean sub-species?

  • beautiful video

    thanks for posting

  • the gorillas look so human you almost expect them to say something

  • LOL true

  • I just read a book called Hurt Go Happy about a deaf girl who befriends a man who owns a baby orphan chimpanzee who can do sign language. It's a really good book- but so sad.

apes are so amazing... Genetically, they share 98.4% of human DNA.

  • You forgot one species of great apes: humans.

  • wrong

  • @ChilapaOfTheAmazons humans are hominids retard

  • @andrewzot The Hominids are the great apes, double retard.

  • @ChilapaOfTheAmazons we arent humans we are homo sapiens

  • @ChilapaOfTheAmazons WELL SAID

  • great apes ..where's the human ape;)

  • Bonobos are a species of chimp. Humans, gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans are the four great apes.

  • @J3yeJ3ye you gone nuts

  • Fantastic descriptions on the side. I find it incredible that even though our DNA is very identical, human minds have developed much more than the other apes. I'm hoping to work with them in my future.

  • ooo what a beutiful little ape. very cute and smart. it is facist to think that ape is different to a human.

  • Man is considered to be one of the great apes.

  • omg this the worst thing i ever saw this is madness and i should know i'm 11 and older peopel just like things that are mean to animals

  • Where is Washoe? Not one video of her in youtube!

  • This might be the best video on youtube ever!

  • the last one its just a siamang, not a gibbon

  • Siamangs are in the family Hylobatidae, which means they're gibbons.

  • man i think this is one of the sweeetest vids on youtube, it seriously rocked my mind. whooaaa. check out Our inner ape by frans de wall
