I was just a little white kid in 1960, and didn't know anything about race or any bad feelings between the races. I did know this - Wilma Rudolph made me jump up and shout when she'd run and pass those Russian women. She gave me thrills I'll never forget. God bless Wilma Rudolph.
@50centmarian What?... Why do you need so bad those thumbs? And moreover, how can you feel bad about something like that? Are you a heart sick person? or are you a pesimist? Admire her for her will and stubbornness to attain success, you don't feel bad about things even she don't feel bad about.. seriously.
can someone tell me why you guys all like her so much? i mean shes a good sprinter but you guys all seem like shes a god.. no disrespect just wondering why this one lady would give this much inspiration
Wilma was an amazing athlete who held world or American records for every distance from 50 through 200 meters. She also won the national titles for these events. I'm amazed that someone would make light of her accomplishments......wow.
Wilma Rudolph ran personal bests of 11.0 and 22.9, in the 100m and 200m back in 1960............................ON A DIRT TRACK. Only an idiot would laugh at that.
I know the description of the video says that it was a 'WR' but it actually wasn't. Wilma's 200m WR figures were 22.9 which she ran in the 1960 US Championships. Wilma ran 23.2 (Olympic Record) to win her heat & 23.7 in her semi. The track was slowed by rain by the time of the final, and the race was run into a strong headwind.
You should drop to your knees and pray that someday you could be half the person that Wilma was. Grow up!!
btw; You obviously know nothing of the history of T&F. Back then there was no such thing as composite running tracks, super lite high tech running shoes and year round professionally coached training. Most 1960's tracks were nothing more than dirt and cinders at best. Talk about lack of traction.

bla bla bla! I am grown up and have recently finished study for a master's degree. I am educated.
23.9 is a slow 200m time for a world record and Olympic title whichever way you look at it. I said nothing offensive and I hold great respect for Rudolph, but as you lack a sense of humour, you are the one with the problem.
@Aarontlondon - And yet you're STILL an idiot about track. The WR in 1960 was 22.9 and Rudolph ran 24.0 in the olympic final on a CINDER track out of lane ONE and into a swirling headwind...
As for your opinion of it being 'slow', what you obviously don't realize is that women's track in the US was a virtual afterthought, with little competent coaching. The times improved rapidly AFTER her victory because they saw the potential of female athletes. Wilma opened the door for future generations.
Yeah, and it's not easy either. I ran the 200 in high school track and the 400 also. They aren't very easy to stay in a sprinting mode. It's a lot of hard work.

Peccato che la Leone "crollò" nel finale. Ma anche giustamente, sui 200 doveva tentare il tutto per tutto.

She looks too thin to be a sprinter they are normally all big, just look at walter dix for example.

I have plenty of perspective of how things were different back then, but please don't presume to tell me I have no respect...sheesh!
23.9 is a very slow time for a 200m world record, come on it's 2 and a half seconds slower than what was achieved only 20 years later

Would you have a good "LOL" in front of Wilma?
Again, grow up and get educated.

Yeah, well, that was fast for those days. They didn't have the kind of training like they do now. Running wasn't as developed as it is today.
