It's really too bad what happened. You seem to have received a lot of positive input. It just comes to show that the series is "not tired" and deserves more attention. There's a lot of lose ends to be tied up (too bad about Janus/Magus and Guile being scrapped because they said it was too difficult to integrate the story). I'm sure it can be done and very well should be done.
The main point should be to help players understand the story without having to read EVERYTHING at Chrono Compendium

I never buy SE games because I lack the console and interest in them.
Definitely, if they remade CT, Xenogears and the Mana series today with graphics like Red Dead and a large scaled roamable map to replace the small world map and make it corresponding size like Red Dead they would be making crazy money and I'd be waiting at the stores for that.

Usually when square does something like this they seem to want to make the remake there selves, if they found out enough people loved a game to make a fan made version of it, they are likely to remake the old game with better graphics and sell it and gain millions :D thats why everyone has faith for ff7 on ps3 lol

Though the game looks good considering it was being done by people outside of the industry, these graphics are something the 64 bit era. really dated.
If you saw the trailer in full quality, you'd know it's at least better than mid-PS2 games. The game wasn't even finished, most of the graphical work wasn't polished yet either. Not to mention this was stopped before the 360 came out, IIRC.
I've known about htis from the beginning until it was cancelled. And even during the production, whenver there was a new screen shot (as rarely as it was) the graphics were never really good.

I agree with comments made earlier - should have not butchered the music. These guys actually had a full symphonic remake of the original soundtrack as well. They only got 3 tracks out. S-E should have hired these guys or offered them a job instead of sicking lawyers on them. Makes me sick.
Ugh, please stop with the creative license. The music does not help this video, just like the reworked script isn't going to help the DS remake at all. PLEASE DON'T BUY IT, go to the site and look at the character videos and see for yourself, especially Frog and Magus.

Oh, and the "reworked" script is how it would be if the size limits of the SNES cart didn't prevent an International script, plus some typo fixes and patching up a bit of confusion between this and Cross.
We (English players) got a redone script which was amazing indeed, but don't tell people not to buy a game because you just can't handle them reverting the script. For instance, Frog was never supposed to go "thee" and stuff.
Doesn't matter what was intended if the original came out better. And I just finished playing through the whole thing, new content as well, and the majority of the script is not nearly as good as the original. There are a few places it improved but only a few, and all the new stuff is TERRIBLE. Ugh, Chrono Cross was so bad and I let myself get my hopes up when I heard it was getting retconned out but that's not the case. All they did was bring CT down with that crappy new ending.
I just don't get the logic behind it; they port the original over to the DS, but they forced the makers of this (which looked good even though it the trailer was made how long ago?) to stop, instead of maybe letting them finish and get some of the profit, or take over the project...
The artist that drew dragon ball z is akira toriyama, a japanese anime artist. The reason they look bulky is because his art style is like that and dragon ball z was an anime that did very well in both U.S.A. and japan in fact all over the world. So you cant say that the style is bad because its just a 3D remake of it, it's very well done, plus, it's great to see such a great game being revived because it's plot is awesome and can teach alot to people.
Assuming everybody in the Resurrection team played the SNES version before, it would have been courteous for Square Enix to allow the project to finish, and then, have the appropriate parties call the shots on the profit.
Otherwise, we are now getting a SNES-to-DS port of the game, complete with animated sequences, courtesy of Toei Animation (yes, the same studio that made Voltron, Mazinger Z, Saint Seiya, Cutie Honey, Dragon Ball/Z/GT, Digimon, Sailor Moon, Hell Teacher Nube, Air Master, etc).

That sounds pretty cool, finally something other than a final fantasy remake, personally Ive never played the snes version but the ps port of it(Aside from playing it on an snes emu-program) It would still be cool if they would make a 3d version of the game (or a sequel[yes I know crono cross exists)

What a bad and stark-3D butchering of the original Chrono Trigger game. What happened here to Chrono and Magus' faces? They looks all squidgy and crap. It's a good thing this didn't get out there. While it would be nice to see a 3D remake of Chrono Trigger at some point... I'd say cel-shaded 3D in Toriyama's style would work much better. This tripe just looks WRONG!! (shiver)~...
Are you an idiot? The creators put an ENORMOUS amount of effort into your so called 'butchering', only to have Square-Enix force them to cancel the project against their will. This was the closest thing there will ever be to a 3D representation of Chrono Trigger, and Square-Enix made it clear that they didn't want it to happen.
To a tee? Maybe you don't have a very good eye for character design then. This has the feel of westerners trying to reproduce Japanese style characters in 3D. They put emphasis on the wrong things, stretched details oddly and make 'em look like misshapen toys. A big trouble with 3D Animation is how cheesy and ugly it can look if not given the right treatment and texturing. I think that something like Chrono Trigger would have looked much better tactfully cel-shaded rather than this gloss crap.
So what you meant to say Duckhugger, is that you're a total japanophile and thus a tribute can only be made by other Japanese people before it gets your shoddy "okay".

Heh, No... I have plenty of appreciation for Western and European art, design, animation, comics, etc... The problem as I see it is Square has never been the same since Hironobu Sakaguchi stepped down as president from losing 120 million on the spirits within.

I agree with comments made earlier - should have not butchered the music. These guys actually had a full symphonic remake of the original soundtrack as well. They only got 3 tracks out. S-E should have hired these guys or offered them a job instead of sicking lawyers on them. Makes me sick.

Ugh, please stop with the creative license. The music does not help this video, just like the reworked script isn't going to help the DS remake at all. PLEASE DON'T BUY IT, go to the site and look at the character videos and see for yourself, especially Frog and Magus.

Just mute the vid, I made this a while ago when I was bored.
Oh, and the "reworked" script is how it would be if the size limits of the SNES cart didn't prevent an International script, plus some typo fixes and patching up a bit of confusion between this and Cross.
We (English players) got a redone script which was amazing indeed, but don't tell people not to buy a game because you just can't handle them reverting the script. For instance, Frog was never supposed to go "thee" and stuff.

Doesn't matter what was intended if the original came out better. And I just finished playing through the whole thing, new content as well, and the majority of the script is not nearly as good as the original. There are a few places it improved but only a few, and all the new stuff is TERRIBLE. Ugh, Chrono Cross was so bad and I let myself get my hopes up when I heard it was getting retconned out but that's not the case. All they did was bring CT down with that crappy new ending.

I just don't get the logic behind it; they port the original over to the DS, but they forced the makers of this (which looked good even though it the trailer was made how long ago?) to stop, instead of maybe letting them finish and get some of the profit, or take over the project...

I wish this wasn't a cancelled project. Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS isn't enough for me.

The artist that drew dragon ball z is akira toriyama, a japanese anime artist. The reason they look bulky is because his art style is like that and dragon ball z was an anime that did very well in both U.S.A. and japan in fact all over the world. So you cant say that the style is bad because its just a 3D remake of it, it's very well done, plus, it's great to see such a great game being revived because it's plot is awesome and can teach alot to people.

Assuming everybody in the Resurrection team played the SNES version before, it would have been courteous for Square Enix to allow the project to finish, and then, have the appropriate parties call the shots on the profit.
Otherwise, we are now getting a SNES-to-DS port of the game, complete with animated sequences, courtesy of Toei Animation (yes, the same studio that made Voltron, Mazinger Z, Saint Seiya, Cutie Honey, Dragon Ball/Z/GT, Digimon, Sailor Moon, Hell Teacher Nube, Air Master, etc).

What a bad and stark-3D butchering of the original Chrono Trigger game. What happened here to Chrono and Magus' faces? They looks all squidgy and crap. It's a good thing this didn't get out there. While it would be nice to see a 3D remake of Chrono Trigger at some point... I'd say cel-shaded 3D in Toriyama's style would work much better. This tripe just looks WRONG!! (shiver)~...

Are you an idiot? The creators put an ENORMOUS amount of effort into your so called 'butchering', only to have Square-Enix force them to cancel the project against their will. This was the closest thing there will ever be to a 3D representation of Chrono Trigger, and Square-Enix made it clear that they didn't want it to happen.

To a tee? Maybe you don't have a very good eye for character design then. This has the feel of westerners trying to reproduce Japanese style characters in 3D. They put emphasis on the wrong things, stretched details oddly and make 'em look like misshapen toys. A big trouble with 3D Animation is how cheesy and ugly it can look if not given the right treatment and texturing. I think that something like Chrono Trigger would have looked much better tactfully cel-shaded rather than this gloss crap.

Heh, No... I have plenty of appreciation for Western and European art, design, animation, comics, etc... The big thing I have issues with is when weeaboo western fucks try to reproduce their favoritist animu-style game characters like this cocking up the eyes n' face and making them look all uber-muscle-supreme-3D-OMGorama!!!
As far as 3D style games go... something like Chrono Trigger would look better having it's 3D handled in the cel-styled manner of Dragon Quest 8, just sayin'!

im a 3D artist and i want to be developing games, do you have any idea the restrictions they have to make a game of that quality even run!? the characters ARENT perfect. but the faact reminds chrono looks like chrono magus looks like magus the imps look like Imps. the game is very well done an d true to the original. its a shame it waas stopped and i not only commend there effort to make a game look that good without a whole game studio behind them. but i applaud the work they have done.

The problem as I see it is Square has never been the same since Hironobu Sakaguchi stepped down as president from losing 120 million on the spirits within.
Since Yoichi Wada has been president its turned into a soul less corporation that just wants to beat the final fantasy series like a dead horse since they know it will sell, its no longer about taking risks and making games you love its about money thats all now.

This obviously has nothing to do with Square Enix. This is probably someones college animation class project, or something like that, Chrono Cross looks tons better than this. I do hope they make another Chrono game though but I doubt this is it.

I wouldn't mind a remake at all. Of course the original is classic, but this is exactly what can bring the Chrono franchise to a new generation of gamers.

Sure, they work hard and make decent FF games (yeah, they're decent, not as good as everyone says, but alright I guess), but they can make something else good, or perhaps they could have offered to produce the game for the PSP or something like that? There was more they could have done then just sent a Cease and Desist to stop a fan remake of a game series they'll probably never touch again.

Sure. They also could have asked the remakers out to dinner and took them dancing and brought them pretty flowers. But they didn't. The legal option they chose was Cease and Desist and there was nothing wrong with that. Claiming "they'll probably never touch [the series] again" is neither provable in any meaningful way, nor an adequate justification for copyright infringement.
