This is a good advice for girls too. I learned this on my own and it was no fun. Now after a break up I end any kind of contact and things get better much faster than one can think it would. The big problem apears when you want to sop any kind of contact with your ex but he/she doesn't even if he/she broke up with you. Believe me, I lived that and for one year I was emotinaly tortured. This until I told him very clear: stop, this doesn't work, i do not want to suffer anymore.

The person seems to be actively taking distance from you to secure the personal space of his/hers. I ended up making a complete ass of myself after I freaked out IN FRONT (groannnnn..) of them when they announced that they had moved in with someone new. Now things are very tense between us and can probably never be reconciled. At least I'll know better next time........
best way is to break contact, what i did is give my cell phone to my best friend and told him to keep it from me and only tell me when someone important calls or text and to erase all the text i got from my ex, he is a great friend and it is a bit a chore but work very well for a few weeks, hope this helps someone.
