  • i love the jazz type music man. reminds me of them motown hits

  • Cool.

  • What settings did you chose to export from final cut? I'm having trouble exporting. If you check out my last video you can see what I mean. PLEASE HELP!!

  • Nice video and she's a babe!

  • I wouldn't recommend this camera for shooting video, there is a horrible wobble effect created when filming in artificial light, and if it's low light it ruins the picture quality.

  • @Nogert "wobble" effect is called "rolling shutter"

I think it happens with pretty much any digital video camera, but dedicated video camers do things to correct it? I may be wrong.

  • Is it possible to shoot video of this quality with a like a Sony Cybershot kind of camera? It might sound like a stupid question but I really don't know much about cameras. Thanks!

  • nice plot

  • The spinning around in circles footage reminds me of a scene from the movie "I am a Sex Addict".

  • T2i much better !

  • This song is awesome! is it an original?

  • @dannyefernandez

Thanks. Yes, the tune is original. I am playing all the instruments except of course the drums. My drum machine is doing that.

  • The Canon EOS 7D Is Better!

  • love your work! I'm weighing up the d3100 against the d5000 currently. Too hard to decide :(

  • What are your setting on?

    - I mean, I don't think the quality of my videos becomes so good (I got a Nikon d5000 to)

  • @Akiin261o

I recall that for this video I had it set to manual settings but the exposure was automatic. So the iris would have been around f5,6, and shutter speed would have been 1/60th a second, and I think I was shooting mostly on the long end of the kit lens so around 55mm. Oh and the white balance would have been set for overcast.

  • @nathanielscott

Ehm ok, well thanks O.o hehe!

  • biggest gorm going.

  • @AdventuresOfMaz

Last I check being a gorm was a bad thing, so being the biggest gorm would be the worst.

  • @nathanielscott no shit sherlock :) you're defining the word gorm.

  • @AdventuresOfMaz

Well then, I am sorry if I offended you.

  • why would i buy a nikon to produce vids? just a question?

  • @ETRobot

Depends. It is a low cost camera that gives you high deff video with desirable cinematographic tools like highly selectable focus, selectable depth of field, good resolution and relatively easy use in a very small handheld package. In short you have more control over the image with a good dslr than you do with most any video camera. In part because of the chips size, in part because of the lens selection. And don't forget the cost. The down side is the rolling shutter effect.

  • @nathanielscott thanks so much for the info. i want to buy a nikon, but cant decide really,

    they are high priced,

  • Pentax K-x have lot of better video ...

  • Is this with image stabilization on, or is it just that shaky.

  • @KrykoStorm

No image stabilization engaged in the lens during production or in editing.

  • The video is good. The clips of the man's face reminds me of a Coen Brother's type movie.

  • nice how do you setting up this HD? i wanna know. Please.

  • did you edit or mess around with the color in this? it looks fantastic!

  • @bsquared4444 Nope, this footage is straight off of the camera. The version where I fixed exposure errors looks even better.

  • Did you import the footage directly to final cut or you used a compressor? is that i really want to buy the nikon d5000 but i dont know if it is compatible with Final cut express

  • @jeteto17 I use the nikon capture utility (which is just a SD card reader program) and I import the files directly into Final Cut without any transcoding. It is simple and fast.

  • Great Video, but who is the music by? P.S got the D5000 and its a great camera. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Greyheed The music is my own. It is a motif that I play around with while I experiment with different styles and instruments. This recording is a style that was influenced by the backing musicians on Paul Simon's Graceland. The instruments are a hammond home organ console, an electric guitar (layered a few times) and an old analogue synth for the bass line.

  • can the d5000 make videos in full-hd?

  • Wait, that's amazing. Under 700$ for that beauty of a shot? I know what I'M saving up for.

  • Does the camera also record 1080i ?

  • @UUSAAE123 No, only 720p.

  • Thanks a bunch buddy! this video has made me choose which camera i am going to buy!

one quick question, what is this piece of music called? i love it! :D

  • the only thing i dont liek about the video is the FPS i wish it was more like 30 or 31 instead of 24....cuz when u shake the camerea u get the shaky side ways pictures. so unless u hold it relatively still it doesnt look super great

  • I know the lens has autofocus, but can u make manual focus as well?

  • @joeskims Yeah you can switch to manual focus. When you are shooting video though, you have to use manual focus.

  • does this camera have a mic?

  • where did you buy it from???

  • @BlancettModeling Yes the 18-55mm lens came with the camera body for that price.

BTW, I also love model railroading.

  • @nathanielscott

hey when you are putting your vid up on the computer, and you put multiple videos together; after you're down how do you get it in HD? as you can see on my page if you look, my quality is very choppy. im using the d5000 with the same lense. the program i use is sony vegas pro 10 and sometimes windows movie maker.

GREATLY APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD HELP ME. thank you

p.s high five my name's nathaniel too :)

  • @operatorone15 Vegas 10 is good software. I took a look at your videos. There is a lot to know how to compose a good moving shot, like how to select a lens angle, what F-stop to to use, what shutter speed to use, etc... but what I notice about your video is that you are zoomed in too much for the speed you are moving the camera. The American Society of Cinematographers manual actually has tables that tell you how fast you can pan for a given lens angle before the image starts to fall apart.

  • @operatorone15 Also, a slower shutter speed will increase the motion blur, which will also help the image hold together, but it will result in more noticeable rolling shutter (that is a problem with the progressive scan cmos chip cameras)

  • what program can I use to edit?

  • @phille22 Final cut pro is what I used to edit this with but there are other editors. Newer versions of Sony Vegas and Adobe's Premiere should both be able edit the video from the camera.

  • @nathanielscott are those for free?

  • @phille22 No. Each of those editors are a few hundred dollars USD. I am unaware of a freeware or shareware editor that can easily edit the AVI file that the Nikon creates.

  • what video editing software do you use?

  • @Ghostmgf For this video I used Final Cut Pro, but I prefer to use Sony Vegas.

  • Not quite as "FUCKING HELL" as I thought it'd be but still ... very cool.

  • How can I avoid auto adjust brightness while recording video?

As I can see you have the same ''problem''.

  • @dimy3j Use the Exposure Lock (EL) button. By factory default you have to hold the button to keep it locked. But there is a menu that will allow to EL button to a lock and hold button.

  • Nice vid nathanielscott. Also i like the song....who sings?

  • @alladin082000 The music is my own. I wrote and recorded it at my home.

  • Comment removed

  • why 24p? whyyyyyyyyyyyy??????

  • @gregliam American films (Cinema) are shot at 24 frames per second. Also, it is the fastest frame rate the camera has at 720p.

  • @nathanielscott 24fps sucks most on this camera, othervise i would be buying it right away. Nice video anyway.

  • where do u spot of country ? I like feeling and movie test also your great hand.

  • @ma0305milk Thank you for the comment. The video was shot in Southwest Idaho.

  • If you're looking to buy a dslr, then please check out the Samsung NX10. SAMSUNG NX10!!!!!

  • @dbstjdals What is the lens mount for the NX10?

  • @nathanielscott its the NX mount, Samsung proprietory lens mount system. So far they have three lenses out, the 30mm pancake, 18-55mm standard, and the 70-200mm zoom. You can also buy corresponding adaptors for different mounts I believe.

  • hey wait a minute, i have a question

how come your videos are shot in a full screen? if u look at my like 3 recent videos. its cut off on the top and bottom.

    u know what i mean?

  • I LOVED IT! Thank you soooooo much for doing something like this! It really made me decide which camera I wanna buy! But, tell me, how can you adjust it?

  • I just got this camera and I'm trying to learn about the video mode. A lot of video post taken from this camera have the slow motion effects, do you happen to know how to do this? NICE VID.

  • How long of a video can you take with the d5000, and can you use any lens with the video mode

  • @steveisler 5 minutes, and you can use any lens with the same mount. In fact you could even take the lens off and use a magnifying glass to focus n image onto the cmos chip, but the results would be poor. For example look at one of my other d-5000 videos where where I hold up cinema camera lenses in front of my nikon body. It is kind of a weird effect.

  • @nathanielscott wow thats along time of recording. are you serious?, only 5 minutes?, you have got to be kidding me

  • @curtismichael14 The camera can record 5 minute videos at a time. Each file is about 500Mb. With a 8Gig card that is about an hour an 20mins before you have to swap or dump the card.

  • @nathanielscott nice vid. what program did you use to edit? what file extension does the camera give you? I want to purchase so your info will be greatly appreciated. thnx.

  • @analisthp I used final cut pro to do a very basic edit, no effects or color correction or anything of the like. I exported it as an mov file using the apple intermediary file settings. Then I transcoded it for youtube using Apple's Compressor program.

  • @analisthp If you are planning on shooting lots of video - be wary, there are better options. There is no stereo mic option, and no solution the the poor built-in mic other than turning it off. That being said the LCD viewer is great and I have a lot of fun shooting videos like this one with my D5000.

If anyone has a solution to the audio (mic alternatives) please message me.

  • and this video is very cool for a test...i like

  • AHHHHH I WANT THIS CAMERA NOW!!!!!!!!

  • I do not know why, but this video is great (light, girl, music ... everything? ...)

  • @stedalopi

    Thanks!

  • How long can you actually record in HD 1280X720 with the D-5000? Im still choosing between D90 and D5000.

  • @GoviMurillo did u find out ?

  • @GoviMurillo i heard only 5 minute clips

  • @GoviMurillo You can record in HD for 5 minutes and 20 minutes in lower resolutions

  • @GoviMurillo 5 minutes in 720p is AWESOME.. to bad it's jello :( I've had my d5000 for a year now

  • @GoviMurillo 5 minutes for the D5000

  • please tell me what the song is? i really like it.

  • @pSa7m

I never really named the tune. It is just me working in my home studio trying to develop cool organ and synthesizer sounds.

  • cool cool. i read somewhere you can only record 5 minutes at a time. is that true?

  • @lukeisastalker

Yes, when recording 1280X720 Progressive video (720P) you can only record 5 minutes to the card.

  • @nathanielscott can you record a bunch of 5 minute clips to the same card depending on its size?

  • ich seh da keine 1280 pixel :D

  • check out the footage on my test too if you're thinking about purchasing this camera...I tried it with some typical telephoto lenses

  • Nice groove, Nathaniel. Makes the vid..though the location shots are great.

  • What I find so beautiful with this camera is that it delivers avi files which don't need to be converted before editing in premiere pro. It can also do time-lapse photography which can be made into full HD videos (it can take 999 pictures in a row). I love this camera tho it's less easy to use then a Canon it's still the better camera for me. I'm a Nikon fan anyway. But yeah, the censors still can't beat real 35mm film in color dynamics. It will happen tho. Mark my words ^^

  • hows the mic and the battery span on this ?

  • The Mic is terrible if the sound is louder than room voices. Battery span is great though.

  • The mic is bad. I only used it for reference sound. I always use a separate recorder for dialog anyway. My old DA-P1 dat deck is still working thankfully.

  • Great Light there? What part of the country are you in?

  • Southwest Idaho. Lots of sun here, but cold in the winter.

  • cool i thought that was in like the UK somewhere. lol but in the US thats awesome. lol i'm going to go there one day and take pictures!

  • great

  • Very good test. The music fits perfectly.

  • its the Bubble effect on videos in the D5000 and D90. canon doesnt have This.

  • Not true, every camera that have a CMOS-sensor combined with a rolling shutter has the same problem, Nikon and Canon alike.

  • Incredible camera, have you realized that when you move the camera too fast the image gets wired, like with waves... I dont know, the nikon d90 have the same problem...

  • Very nice. I'd like to come by sometime and look at the video files in full res.

  • Sure. I start to get some more free time during finals week, and then certainly over the holiday break.

  • Dig the music. What rig are you using for the organ?

  • It is my Hammond Grande 16000. It is playing the drums and of course the organ through its rotary speaker. I mic'ed the speaker (from about a foot away from the speaker) with a single Audio Technica small diaphragm condenser. I think it is lectern mic so it is probably a cardioid pickup pattern. Then I just split the signal up a few time and panned and delayed the signal until I got the cool stereo phasing sound.

  • Very cool. So that's all the Hammond? Not bad. Picture isn't bad either. What's the output res? Have you tried an EIA 1956 target yet?

  • Well, the Bass is my Ibanez with active pickups, and the guitar is my old aria pro. Both are recorded directly to my M-Audio 1814.

I think is will do the EIA 1956 pretty well but the image will progressively fall apart with faster movement.

  • Well yeah, the guitar is pretty obvious. I'm amazed that with all your synths & keyboards, you still don't have a decent amplifier.

  • crazy that still cameras can look so good nowa' days

    ~Austin Williams~

  • Hey Austin,

You know it is amazing. The video I have shot on my last couple mobile phones was pretty lousy but handy. The first digital still camera I purchased (a decade ago) boasted a megapixel of resolution. My new Nikon takes pretty good still pictures and fair video. But it is sad to admit that it is still a step backwards in terms of latitude, color depth, and resolution compared to film cameras from over 30 or even more years ago.

I guess it is the price we pay to have the image quickly

  • so what were the costs of these cameras 30 years ago?
