Four years ago I was struggling with a life-threatening illness in the ICU. It was Sunday morning, and the only Christian radio station I could pick up played this old spiritual. It was not performed by Fernando Ortega, but it was beautiful and I experienced true worship. I did not know if I would live or die, but I was ready because Christ was my savior and I knew that His will would be accomplished. When you have lost everything, then you realize that all you really need is Jesus.

I don't believe in the world's skewed definition of Christianity. As I stated earlier, a christian is one who follows and acts like Christ. True Christ-followers are hard to come by. Christianity in the world today is a broad term used to classify people who go to church, believe there's a God, were raised in a Christian home, were baptized into a church, etc. Those people aren't any more christian than you are.

Yes, well, in the US we have to hear christian leaders threatening to kill atheists and other non-christians on a constant basis. We have to constantly wage legal battles to keep the bible out of our science classrooms. We have to constantly challenge the government about applying our laws without injecting christian "morality" into it. The US is secular on paper only, migely. It is a constant battle.
The Americans do not experience the type of religious civil conflicts that you see elsewhere. They behave in a constitutional and democratic manner to challenge religion in schools - and they win!
The USA will always have a constituency that wants more religion. The fact is that it was kicked out of their schools.
Next they should outlaw the hijab and religious artifacts that are worn to school.
Europe has very conservative religious elements also. It is not just America.
I am from Canada, and I do agree there are just as many ingnorant people here as in America.
But I don't know anyone who would trust our government to uphold the Bill of Rights(our constitution) on thier own.

Next, the American constitution has a piece of brilliance called the Establishment Cause. It sparked the free world.
Lastly, the yanks do fight to keep their rights. It is called democracy. We do it here, too.
I think part of the reason for your ignorance is the fact that you're British. You're from a country that is NOT a republic. You have no idea what it means to live in a country that has a constitution on paper, written down. You rely on traditions. It's not the church itself that we want to look to, but God. doggypound 1, don't judge Christianity from what you hear about the church because that's not all there is to it. I'm going through a similar situation of judging the people of the church, but we must look beyond that. If what you want is real, you'll realize that those terrible child abusers and all the other sinners be punished rightly. We must try to fix what can be fixed and as hard as it is, look only to Him.

You don't traditionally ridicule non-christians, that's true. Normally you burn them alive in a public square. You sometimes burn their entire written history, as was done to the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas. To be fair, you often let them live for years. As slaves. Then you kill them. Or, like the christian missionaries in Tahiti, sometimes you choose genocide. After 30 years of christian missionary rule, Tahiti's population fell from 200,000 to only 6,000.

I don't believe in the world's skewed definition of Christianity. As I stated earlier, a christian is one who follows and acts like Christ. True Christ-followers are hard to come by. Christianity in the world today is a broad term used to classify people who go to church, believe there's a God, were raised in a Christian home, were baptized into a church, etc. Those people aren't any more christian than you are.

Well, taking all of history into account and also taking into account that George Bush has said that god told him to fight the war in Iraq, and 500,000 civilians have died since the US invasion - I see no difference between Islam and Christianity. I know that westerners would like to believe that their culture/religion is less bloody, but it just isn't true.

Listen, fool. I am from a military family. 3 Marines, 2 US Army soldiers, 3 US Navy sailors. 4 of us have been in combat. My nephew served in Iraq. YOU have your head in the sand if you believe that christians are incapable of evil. We have seen it and lived it. We know what our fellow Americans are capable of in war. The rest of my family are still christians, but I lost my faith quickly. And one thing that confirms my decision is the inability of christians to admit their sins. Hypocrites!

Yes, well, in the US we have to hear christian leaders threatening to kill atheists and other non-christians on a constant basis. We have to constantly wage legal battles to keep the bible out of our science classrooms. The Americans do not experience the type of religious civil conflicts that you see elsewhere. They behave in a constitutional and democratic manner to challenge religion in schools - and they win!

You have no idea what it means to live in a country that has a constitution on paper, written down. You rely on traditions.
