  • Steve Reich - Pieces of Wood is what this reminds me off, but way more complicated. I think jonny sampled Reich in other works actually

  • that would be sick to sample this

  • this sounds JUST like Radiohead

  • It starts off all random then gradually ends in unison. Brilliant.

  • awesome

  • an ode to deafness and success

  • Comment removed

  • Did you get hit in the head?!

  • @WheresWallace4883 Tell me if you were!

  • Comment removed

  • Woah I'm hearing Bloom in here now

  • This song and "Japanese War Music - Samurai Battle March" makes me imagine epic 1v1 sword duels.

  • I enjoy this song way more than I think I'm intended to.

  • The soundtrack to the movie made the whole thing feel like some sort of satanic ritual. Like every time somebody died it was as if a sacrifice to appease some evil lord of madness. A seriously sinister soundtrack for an equally sinister movie

  • this was the best scene in the whole movie!

  • @ebos89 do you know what good music is? have you any clue what the word convergence means? could you possibly know what movie this is from and how well it fits in with the scene it's played in? do you even fucking know how amazingly well this piece was composed? they're SUPPOSED to go offbeat. it's supposed to sound somewhat bad. did you know that?

no, so how about shutting the fuck up.

  • @bigfoot9754 thank you!

  • Comment removed

  • Absolute fucking genius.

  • i love how it is so offbeat but still sounds good.

  • This is great. I love how all of the beats sound normal alone, but together are confusing and surreal.

  • This has been stuck in my head all week.

  • Once you've got your head around the structure, those last instruments introduced right at the end are monstrous. Has anyone worked out how vast the song would need to be for them to be in phase?

  • sounds like skeleton's gathering for thanksgiving

  • @audiodead thats just made my day. genuine lols

  • It feels like this song is fucking with my heartbeat.

  • I love how little by little a new drum starts beating, simply awesome!

  • BADASSDUDE

  • if i had a dime for every time this got me laid, i'd have 40 cents. now you know something about me.

  • @LeadSalad99

    Hey buddy

    Hey buddy

    Can I have forty cents?

  • One of the most underrated musicians out there. People forget that Radiohead are a BAND.

  • @CatastrophicDisease lolololo

  • @CatastrophicDisease i know ive been saying this for a long time.ITS NOT ALL THOM!!! O and dont forget Nigel

  • @okcomputeA dont forget Collin, hes one of the best bassists around, and its cool because he doesnt just do all the hard showing off funky bass stuff, hes really smooth and atmospheric and it just works so fucking well with their stuff

  • OH GOD OH GOD.

    WHERE DOES IT HURT?

    I CAN'T HEAR MY VOICE.

    TELL ME!!!!

    WAIT HERE FOR ME.

  • Johnny could perform even "4"33" and it would be amazing

  • Still better than Bieber.

  • Actually, it is very obviously based on the music of Steve Reich..................

  • marching band of the apocalypse

  • Genius

  • Is the film any good?

  • Sounds like a skeleton jerking off.

  • @audiodead jeezus, I don't know why that comment made me laugh so hard. It must be late....

  • @audiodead I LOVE YOU AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAH

  • @audiodead it sounds more like a skeleton orgy

  • What are you so miserable about?!! THERE IS A WHOLE OCEAN OF OIL UNDER OUR FEET!!!!!

No one can get it out but me.

  • My description of this song: A confused and percussion marching band. And it's brilliant.

  • WHAT THE FUCKK

  • Jonny Greenwood didn't need Chuck Norris for playing it.

  • i loved this piece so much when i saw There Will Be Blood, then to find out it was actually composed by the lead guitarist from my favorite band... so fucking awesome.

  • I remember watching There will be Blood, when this part came on when he's running & covered in oil... I almost died... I've never loved a musical score so much

  • Sounds like skeletons playing drums.

  • This is my 'Taking a dump' song

  • Even though this song was featured originally in the bodysong movie, it really owes its place to There will be blood, because the intense poly-rhythmic nature of the song coincides perfectly with the chaos of the drill tower blowout.

  • This sounded better in There Will Be Blood tbh

  • shut the fuck up and open your mind faggots

  • @Therealjoey713 Not me. Anyone else think this "sounds like shit"?

  • @MrHymeedesign nah chill

  • @Therealjoey713 RadioHead is shit without Jonny

  • This reminds me of Steve Reich's work.

  • I had a Ford Mondeo that sounded just like that after it converged with a tree. I didn't get a government grant though. If it's any help guys, mine had a blocked injector but yours sounds like water in the tank. Hope you get it running again.

  • anyone think that at 1:00 it sounds like TIJ at 1:11

  • anyting 1:00 sounds like TIJ at 1:11

  • My favorite part of the song is when it goes "BAM BAHDA SKJDHKJSDH KJHDHGdhghksddkgkgh." Anyone agree?

  • @drumzdrumzdrumz hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you gotta be kidding! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • When this song came on in There Will Be Blood, I kept thinking a shark was going to jump out of nowhere and take Daniel Day Lewis' head off...

  • I thought this worked extremely well in There Will Be Blood. It seems ramshackle and elementary but serves to show the chaos Daniel Plainview was in and his conflicting feelings regarding safeguarding his son or attempting to save the oil rig, and essentially his business, from burning to a crisp.

  • I have yet to watch Bodysong, which is where this song is derived from. I had even heard this song before I saw "There will be Blood" and I loved it. The way each of the instruments has a simple rhythm, yet intertwine in an uncomfortably unusual way (complex and 'musically correct all the same') makes it a masterpeice. The fact that the beats compile slowly into what I believe resembles a heartbeat, puts the cherry on the mountain of ice cream, so to speak. Jonny Greenwood is astonishing.

  • W E Ż E S E M A K O !

  • PLEASE DOES ANYBODY HAVE THIS SONG?

  • @salvagamer10 go buy it

  • @quizmark it ain't on itunes.

  • @salvagamer10 I DONT REMEMBER SAYING ANYTHING BOUT ITUNES. Remember Cd's?? duh

  • this scene in the movie was so amazing and it was all because of the music.

  • Na minha terra o nome disso é barulhada :D

    Annoying shit --'

  • @eon106 What does the music, *Strike a nerve*? Chupe la leche del mi pene, mamacita.

  • Comment removed

  • @eon106 Don't be an ass, you've never seen There Will Be Blood, this song was great and the reason I like it is because I have seen the scene. You know, the oil derick explodes, burning oil shoots up into the air, and everyone is frantically running around to stop the well from shooting black sperm up into the air? Get what I am saying?

  • I loved this scene so much... the frantic chasing after the oil and an attempt to save the derik, so great!

  • There Will Be Blood

  • Out of a context, this song isn't that great, but when used in film especially an intense scene, it is beyond perfect.

  • For everyone who doesn't get this, try to imagine it playing along with a really thrilling scene in a movie. Like someone trying to clean up a dead body before the cops bust down the door. That's what it's supposed to be like.

  • @aRubberSoul or a cop chasing criminals in cars, ;)

  • haha at first i thought this was like legit, so i thought how could jonhy suck? but then i realized hes god

  • the ending of this song gave me chills

  • zajebista linia melodyczna

  • First time hearing this,,,

  • uhmmm this sucks...drum loop...

  • @marco00ve alas, it is much more complex than drum loops, but dont get me wrong, there is some kind of looping involved. Its basically derived from tape loops from stockhausen and around 60s n 70s. I think an exampl is 'trans' but im not 100%. Basically u have different loops that layer and kind of mis match, and create a multi-rhythm effect. it works best with percussive instruments, but its not absolute. By itself it can b quite boring, but keep in mind THIS IS A MOVIE SOUNDTRACK.

  • @CloudArchitec well, you can definately tell somethings from some comments, even if what you see in them is off-topic:)

but if you look at it from the other side...everybodies opinion is worthless, if they don't do whatt they say what hey think, but that not nearly enough to cover it.

and no bodies opinion is worthfull, cause dead bodies don't speak, for themselves, at least,. well, actually they do, but people are having a hard time to hear it -> either too much noise or. too much silence ;)

  • this is what i hear when i'm slowly sinking into my own insanity

  • YES i found it... this song awesome

  • @mrcdaniels

where?? where can i find this song?

  • You can find it on google search jonny Greenwood Convergence MP3 thats how i got it on my ipod@statusku0

  • @thedanish165

thanks i got it. i don't know why i didnt think of that before!

  • its all good, we all have brain farts every now and then @statusku0

  • syncopation

  • oh myyy

  • Without this music the movie is not as intense...it makes it, imo

  • @Radioheader you could say that about most movies

  • @Radioheader I agree man, in movies theres a 60/40 relationship. I think the music breathes life into any movie.

  • best name for a song.

    says it all.

still, i wonder how they recorded this? did they do it in lots of different takes or was it in one take with the whole group playing all the instruments, if so then they must be very well trained, i could never keep track of what i was playing with what's going on

love jonny greenwood though, one of the best musicians around nowadays

  • This was great in There will Be Blood.

  • Does anyone know where i can find the version used in TWBB? I can't find it on iTunes.

  • This sounds like one of the songs he did in there will be blood.

  • @jgorine Actually it was in There Will Be Blood. I guess it's in both. It's not listed on the There Will Be Blood soundtrack, but it's definitely in the movie.

  • this is not a song...but this is music... its very contemporer.... i like it

  • it does sound a mess, but then you get to about 1.30 and u start to hear the beat - and i think it's awesome

  • i agree with the GENIUS comment

  • I think he had each instrument play individually, each at a slightly different tempo.. and he positioned the tracks so that they would all converge at the end.

  • Jesus, this is frightening.

  • I does have a beat, but then the adding of beats disrupt the main beat, yet doesn't completely distract. With all of this you are listening 4-5 songs with different timing at the same time.

    Genius

  • Think about it, just as whats true in Daniel the composer is saying is also true in the music.

There is a method to the madness.

  • Clever. Curse words combined with actual words...

lol...you are a work of art.

  • this shit is crazy son; but it shows his knowledge of music and sounds and his openess to using a broader range of instruments.....if that makes sense

  • this shit will put you in a trance!

  • people may not like this song, but it gets everyone's attention. I couldn't bring myself to pause this...just because the music is abstract and unconventional, doesn't mean it isn't AMAZING. Obviously he is paying homage to the importance of the very rudimentary principles of music-making...

  • me habian hablado bien de esto pero ahora escucho y no se :S.

  • i love how it slowly shifts the beat forward

  • lolol

  • you obviously have absolutely no background in music history or theory

  • If this is so simple for you... then fucking show us your own 'random' noises and see how they compare.

  • It's not random noises, it only would sound like that to someone who doesn't have an ear for music.

  • Each to their own, commanex. I like it.

  • I'm glad you're here to tell everyone what music is and isn't. You must be god or something. Why isn't your name widely recognised in the music world?oh wait that's right, you're a nobody and your opinion is worthless, now I remember. It's jsut worth this comment, and even that's generous.

  • i stand by my previous comment jerkoff.

    its a mess.

my opinion doesnt matter to you, god help me!

all i need to say is it worked well in the movie. all the music did.

but as a stand alone track, its pointless.

  • @commanex I don't have the arrogance to say that you opinion is worthless, however I completely disagree. This is a layered rhythmic composition where the parts are constantly speeding up at different rates and moving in and out of synchronization with each other to create a busy, chaotic atmosphere with immense sonic depth. If that's so easy to do, I look forward to your next album.

  • edit: first sentence should read "...the arrogance to say that your opinion is worthless..."

  • @froggerchanovsky well, i hope you are looking forward to it.

    im mick jagger btw

  • @commanex Sweet, let me know if you need any pro tips on songwriting.

    I'm John Lennon btw.

  • @froggerchanovsky sweet, let me know if you need survival tips on life.

  • isnt that the point?

that it supposed to envoke kinetic imagery?

  • pfff you twat

  • isnt this song the reason there will be blood wasn't nominated for a soundtrack oscar? cus it was already on bodysong i believe

  • Yeah, that's it.

  • @dreadboystarchild also, brahm's violin concerto wasn't an original composition

  • nothing brilliant, just nice!

  • Damn, this song is sweet... PSYCHE!

  • Fassin Taaak, your argument sucks because all music that has ever been made, comes from simple sounds children could make whether a child is playing a piano or tapping on something. This is original and it goes along with the movie where it was used to perfectly depict the scene. You know nothing about music. Go study. Also this isnt his only song and not all of them use such simple instruments......

  • who are you? You shut up whoever the fuck you are.

  • Great Song. Perfect timing in There Will Be Blood; the heat of the moment. Brilliant.

  • Stop trying to be a mr. maverick.

  • the album bodysong soundtrack by jonny greenwood is Awesomeee!! a must own.

Fassin taak kinda has a good point, but not really...he just doesn't have OPEN ears and at least appreciate unique different music sounds. sadly.

    +thumbs down+ suckaa!

  • As much as I disagree with you about the quality of this song, I must agree with what you said about kids on the street or something playing this.

Most people would pay it no mind.

Actually, there was a study of this topic done once, where a professional violinist was playing a violin worth millions of dollars on the street, dressed like a street-musician. It was a performance people would usually pay a lot of money for, but he was treated as a street-man. Children seemed interested, though.

  • I really wish they had released the version used in TWBB. It felt more epic when it wasn't just percussion.

  • @SBV123 this was the version

  • @drummerjoe2610 No, there were strings in the movie version. This song was mixed for the film.

  • you dont have a fucking clue :)-

  • haha. You are right. I don't have a clue about my own opinion. Maybe I should listen to some guy who goes and critiques people's comments on obscure videos.

  • Nah Crowder, i think that he doesn't appreciate brilliant music.

  • haha. taste in music is an opinion. Just because you find it brilliant doesn't mean it is. Just like how if i think its brilliant, it doesn't mean you will. Normally you only have to explain this concept to children... You don't have to agree with me, but you might as well do yourself some good and not choose to show the world how simple minded you are.

  • what a waste of time

  • Jonny Greenwood is definitely the Master Of Beats! :)

  • agreed :D

  • the song is really appropriately titled. He keeps adding poly-rhythms and they start "converging", if you will, in to one big noise.

  • Ok, to begin, I love Radiohead. To continue, I admire Johnny's ways of manipulating computers and sounds...fucking amazing. BUT! and YET! i cannot understand this fucking mess of sounds!!!! I know its considered the "Art of noise", as it is known in music, but pleaaaase! Stop taking advantage of your own fame!

  • are you fucking retarded

it's just like the title says

it's a fantfuckingtastic convergence of fucking mind blowing beats that fucking speed up at such a fucking perfect rate that draws your fucking soul in and then fucking explodes your fucking eardrums with a fantfuckingtastic finale

a mess of sounds is the sounds of me taking a shit on you for posting something stupid shit like that

  • Fuck.

  • this is song is from genius

  • or an amateur :]

  • wish they would show the scene from the movie along with it.

  • anyone heard anything by steve reich perhaps? nice piece in its own right tho.

  • Oh yeah lovely reich, but also philipp glass, or what about pat metheny with reich

  • What a piece of art! Bravo Jonny, bravo!

  • So awesome in There Will Be Blood.

  • i do ... i want to be mrs greenwood of the little one greenwood haha.... !!!

  • Strange music.

  • Este tipo es genial!!!

  • Whenever I think of this song I think of the workings of a human body. The simple sound recodnition repesenting the organs that make us function. The simple heartbeat in the w
