They made it pretty clear that while Dean wasn't into books as Rory was, he was pretty smart and they got along great. I think Dean was a perfect first boyfriend and Jess a perfect disaster boyfriend (because he really sucked at it as hot and awesome as he was) and Logan I think is a mix between Dean and Jess.
