Wow! You helped save my Monday morning--I found your vid post today and after learning a thing or two I had my home network fixed within the hour!! Awesome.
I have this router and before I saw your vid I set it up by downloading the setup wizard (I know, I'm one of those fools). Anyway, after setting it up it worked well for a few hours and then I noticed my speed went down dramatically. Called Comcast and the rep guided me through the troubleshooting process. Turns out that after I unplugged the router's power cable and re plugged it my speed was back up to 30mbps. Do you think that the router is bad or could this be a set up issue? Windows 7
Hi tech, I just want to thank you for posting all this great easy to understand info. I could have never gotten this done without your help. Thank you:)
@ihaveaverybadcold DNS is the service that translates names like google dot com into an IPAddress. IPAddresses are like phone numbers that computers call each other on. People aren't as good at numbers, so DNS translates the names into num.s. It's the equivalent of a phone book. DNS is usually provided by your internet service provider. If you did not configure it on your router and, it tells you this, call your ISP. If computer says this, change it on the main page of the router.
I got a question about wireless router. I got a WRT160N, and my internet works well, I use cable for pc. But my wireless network is acting very weird, it only works 40%-50% of the time, when I use my iPod or PSP, sometimes I can get on the internet, sometimes not, even when i stand next to the router. Do you know how to fix this?
do not get this pice of shit its great for old computers but if u have acomputer with that lan mini card shit dell well forget and and also if u have windows 7 screw connecting while other divices are using only way it works is if its setup on a diffrent computer i had a laptop only diffrence was vista and it never had any problems
I have a question, i have this modem and i connected it for a while and i connected with wifi on my ps3 for a while. i had a internet problem recently and at&t fixed the problem but now my modem doesn't recognize my lynksys.
@edgarrubenvelasco i have a similar problem i have 3 devices that use this connection 1 my laptop 2 my wii 3 my ipod touch now get lag on wii when i play ever scince i got my new laptop i also get kicked off if u are connected then connect on the laptop it doesnt work on there for a while either the fix for it is fucked up you just click a bnch of shit a million times till it works now i belive windows 7 did this cause it works if its not setup on my laptop my only comp no probs with vista
DUDE! You just saved me from throwing away this POS router. The information about changing the router's IP address solved my internet connection problem after I spent hours trying to figure it out. Linksys documentation absolutely SUCKS, gives completely wrong information about working with a DSL modem, will leave you with a nonworking internet connection.
YOU ROCK TECHNOBLOGICAL.
Strange thing is, previous home routers I had didn't require a different IP.
Hey thank you very much I bought this product at a local electronics store refurbished for 15.usd but didn’t come with instructions so I thought of Youtube and found your tutorial, You gave all great information and all very easy to understand you should be getting paid for this… thank you again much appreciated
Great stuff. However, I have a problem. I have my desktop that is connected to Linksys Router and DSL Modem etc. I have a laptop that worked with wireless LAN. Desktop, of of course is wired. Everything was fine till I had to do a Windows Restore on my laptop. After that, I can see the wireless network, it says my laptop is connected, but cannot get to internet. Desktop, however, has internet. What is going on?
@technoblogical Due to character limitations, I'll have to post my comment in a few segments. There are two routers in my townhouse (one is mine and the other is my landlord's) I'm not allowed to configure what isn't mine). Mine is the same router (in my room) as is in this video. It had been working for awhile, then I started getting the following error: "cannot communicate with the Primary DNS Server (209.98.98.98). Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response."
Below that, it has a button that says "Reset the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection"." When I clicked it, it said the issue has been resolved, but then it connected to the router in my living room. Can I get mine to work without having to completely reset it?
video quality very good and nice. it really helpful but sound quality little bit poor because "users need more bass than treble to protect the eardrums".
Heyy yea um thanx for the help but the thing is that wen I change my ip address to some random third number it dosnt give me the same response. It said successful, Renew/release ip. And wen I do do that it says error in the command pad....
I need help please. Everytime I enter "ipconfig /release" an error pops up saying that an error has occured and access is denied. I have set my linksys router up before with the help on a representative but never alone please help.
Are you on Vista or 7? You need to right click the cmd in the start menu and run as administrator. You can't release the IP address unless you do that. You can see that happening at 1:50
If you did do that, and you actually are an administrator, then you have more serious problems that I don't know how to fix. You might try just rebooting the computer. That should cause it to renew its IP Address when it connects to the network.

can you connect your ethernet cable into a regular port or do you need to connect it to a separate ethernet port?

@username18182 Yes, but hopefully you don't need to go to any websites that have an IP that begins with 173.

@nigel3 Ethernet from router to modem. Another Ethernet from computer to router. Configure your wireless while you are wired.

Like on a PS3 or Xbox or Wii? I don't know gaming systems, but there are two settings I'd look for.
1. Possibly consider setting a DMZ pointing towards your gaming system.
2. Enable UPnP on your router.
