This is truly 'Soul' music to remember a beautiful time in music history in the U.S. This is the tops in smooth rhythm waiting for your very special person in your life to show up. A lot has changed in the U.S. however, thank goodness for Youtube for some to remember and some to dream of a smoother time in music.
Hey folks, is this where you met your sweetheart each day to cuddle close, tell sweet nothings in each others ears, and giggling and dreaming that your love would blossom into something so grand. Well In that case this song has to be included in that Valentines Day playlist where you can reminisce to those days of yesteryear. Enjoy this song and lets thank mathewcutiepie for his awesome contribution to us and all of you tube!!
I'm from Detroit, I remember my buddy Micky, turned me on to Billy Stwart in 1969.... Micky was a white boy...that could sing like a bird ! I really miss Micky & Billy :(
Okay i know its not this song but there is another song i really would love if yu guys can help me out, i dont know the song but ART labo plays it from time to time , its a guy talking about a letter i think but its like a story hes telling and hes missing his girl cn you guys help me out here PLZ?
He died on January 17, 1970, just two months prior to his 33rd birthday, when the car he was driving plunged into the Neuse River in Selma, North Carolina, killing him and three members of his band.
A local Miami band in the late 60's by the name of The Warlocks did one hell of a cover of this song. Whenever they hit the first chord it was a scramble to the dance floor by all teenagers. Awesome memories.
THIS is what real music is all about! The perfect romance song, still sounds good now,& will still sound this good for generations to come.Beautiful--just BEAUTIFUL!
This is the quintessential Billy Stewart that defined a generation (of loyal listeners). He
was distinct and unique - nobody else looked
or sounded like him. He left us too early leaving his fan base and all who loved him dearly to search for a replacement, but nobody can replace his persona or his musical talents. He is the most loved performer
This is that classic sitting N the park.Listen I had so much fun N the park with my childhood friends playing run caught & kiss so much fun when we kiss it was on & popping.Thats the beauty of it all that was the first lesson............
I believe it was 1971 In North Caolina late at night after a Concert , Raining , he and a few of his his Band mates hit a tree. And it was all over. I heard Elton John On The Elvis Costello Show, saying he toured With Billy In Late 60's, Elton was in awe of Billy, This still affects me when I hear His Songs.
Billy Stewart was our high school PROM performer in the Spring of 1967. One of the most incredible voices of the rock era singing here one of his best songs along with I Do Love You. Billy died tragically in an auto accident in our state (NC)...a guy who never really got his due.
Romano... you rule!!! this is a timeless classic. I'm sure i've played this song 5000 times or more in my lifetime. If it wasn't for my mother who had good taste... he could've slipped thru the cracks.
Billy Stewart stole my heart in 1965 when some black dudes introduced me to his music...what a loss it was for beautiful music, but what a gain for this white dude
one of the best songs of my youth that really hit my emotions. i always use to daydream that i was singing that song when i was a child and it still gives me goose pimples.
Though British Georgie Fame (and the Blue Flames) wrote this and sang this, Billy Stewart owns it. He really sings his heart out. What a great voice he had.
I think you might be mistaken about that. Georgie Fame was a singer-songwriter. I don't think he would do other people's work. He seemed to only do his own, for the most part.
Hey No problem! No need to argue about a beautiful song. Georgie's is a good version as well of course, but to be fair he didn't have the Dells as backing vocals. I think even I would sound good with backing singers like that!
The Dells did not back Billy Stewart until 1966, oftentimes with Minnie Riperton. "Old Man River" and "Cross My Heart" are some they did. The singers on "Sitting In The Park" and "I Do Love You" are Famon Johnson and William Britton. Famon sang with the Cairos and William with the Enjoyables, both of Shrine Records in D.C. They were friends of Billy's from his hometown. The recordings were made at Chess Studios in Chicago December 1964.
I had a cover telling my that it was the Dells, but research tells me you are correct. Many thanks for that. So I should have said with backing singers like Johnson and Britton...!
myroseaccount--The Dells probably wish they had been on this session. In addition to "I Do Love You", it also produced "I'm No Romeo", a wonderful Jan Bradley co-written song. What a session! Personaly, I think "Sitting In The Park" is Billy's best ever and for it's time a "perfect" record. pghpookie

musiclover1958 4 years ago
Georgie Fame DID not write this! This is the original, written and performed by Billy Stewart with the backing of the heavenly Dells! GLORIOUS!
Basically most classic dance and R&B tracks performed by white acts were covers of originals performed by Black artists!
The singing on this is about 10 times the superior of Georgie Fame, who isn't bad, but ain't in this class.
myroseaccount 4 years ago
I think you might be mistaken about that. Georgie Fame was a singer-songwriter. I don't think he would do other people's work. He seemed to only do his own, for the most part.
musiclover1958 4 years ago
I stand corrected. If you look at johnnyspencer[DOT]info/imagetexts/sittingintheparkBS.htm
and if you have firefox you can see it blown up and that the writer was INDEED R. Stewart!
musiclover1958 4 years ago
Hey No problem! No need to argue about a beautiful song. Georgie's is a good version as well of course, but to be fair he didn't have the Dells as backing vocals. I think even I would sound good with backing singers like that!
