Man I had some of the best times of my life at Quincey.. The Bell 412 , the Jet .. The party ... And theres no Boogie that even come close to it these days...
gees you wouldn't want one of your chutes to accidentaly deploy , which happened a while ago with a cessna caravan with less than desirable results... some good pedal turns & steep turns there for a 5 ton chopper ... you guys would have been weightless at some stages
Brings back some great memories, WFFC was the highlight of the year. Still remember the first year of Rantoul the heli and bi-plane landing area was by the corn maze in this hilly field. Then jumpers started landing in the maze so they moved the landing area over by that radio tower. I should put my vids up from the 412 and the S-58T. Floater out on the wheel and strut of the S-58 was cool too...
That sounds about right. The last time I was there was in 2004 and Rod wasn't flying the 412. It was some other guy flying an S58. The ride wasn't anywhere near as cool but we got about 8,000 feet instead of 4 or 5
awesome, but for some reason i think about the video where the guys container popped open in the door of the plane mid jump........ neverless, I would love to do this!
Nice video, wonder though, why the tail rotor is on the left side of the tail from 2:10 to 2:17 yet from 2:31 it's on the right-side (normal side for 212/412).
Great!! The best video i've seen. I'm a helicopter pilot, i'm sure the pilot had done a recognize flight before this mission. The video edition, the music, everything is perfect.
Not all the shots were of a bell 412 were they...I suspect you had at least one shot of a Bell Iroquois...single huey. Time frame 2:12 shows tailrotor on wrong side for 412...
I shot these rides during the World Free Fall Convention in Rantoul, Illinois a few years back. Unfortunately, the pilot's insurance company will no longer permit him to fly skydivers. It's a damned shame....
I'm goin' to make my way back home and learn to fly. THANK YOU FOO FIGHTERS. YOU ROCK. MENTOS. Dude, evan skydivers get a kick from chopper low level.

I got some great still shots from the S58 too. The ride wasn't as fun as the 412 but, what a launch platform for a photographer.

Shit happens. It's always a good idea to check your pins and handles before you climb on and before you climb out of the aircraft.

Actually, we pulled rather low on that one - there wasn't much of a parachute ride to film :)
Zx11pilot 5 years ago
What altitude did you deploy? I hear it's around 5K. What an E-ticket that had to have been!
RaptureThis 4 years ago
Exit altitude was only around 4,000 feet (pretty standard for heli-jumps). My deployment was around 1,500 feet.
