I like your ideas. I am actually writing a paper about exactly what you said regarding the United Nations. I think it is capable of achieving a lot and helping the world but the power structure is just supporting the interests of member nations. Hopefully that changes soon and we can start working on the real issues in the world.
Unfortunatley negative comments try to find their way into actions that are taken for the betterment. What will the leaders do with the information? Have some faith.477 responded. They tell one person, and it dominos with or without the UN -the message is out. Please stop the angered, negative comments. These are general -what do you expect in a few minutes. At the UN talk detail- Negative person- Don't judge and criticize. These are positive actions. Its a start.
I like the perspective that this video took. The UN has always been regarded unquestionably as the body that represents a future of peace and hope. To actually question it is so important and so necessarily thought-provoking. Thank you for having the courage to do this.
Its nice to hear someone articulate what sometimes most of us can only feel.
We, the human race, can ALWAYS do more, care more. This competition was about making the world better, not about sledging each other.
The criticisms posted illustrate perfectly how outrage and anger are such common responses when there is disagreement, or there is a sense of powerlessness or frustration. In contrast, your responses to the posts illustrate the use of dialog to come to an understanding and resolution.
You were asked to tell the UN what was on your mind, and to express what you believe needs to be done to make the world better; that is what you have done.
Best wishes on your new endeavor. As a word of encouragement, I'd like to share some wisdom from a distinguished historian I once knew:
"Though it seems that the day-to-day trend in history is generally down, from time to time a few people get together to lift humanity higher than it's ever been before."
Thanks for daring to be one of those people.
Since you're my ambassador now, please watch the two videos I submitted. Perhaps my ideas can still be of use.
Jeremy, you're amazing! The video was absolutely fantastic- I'm so excited for you! (Don't let these incredibly sore losers drag you down, by the way)
Thanks for your comment. You actually are right about this, my main complaint about world leaders is a lack of will to take action. It is obvious, so why is nothing happening?
We have the supranational framework - if only world leaders would utilize it to make a difference.
I was actually trying to demonstrate that your criticism is not unwarranted - and in doing so, was hoping you might see how my message (as simple as it may be) is a call to bring actual efforts to materialize the fluffy words, and give real meaning to the typical depressing pictures we are constantly berated with by the media.
There is no single solution. All of our ideas together are lovely, but with no will to actually act on them - what use are they?
Yea, but you did not come with ANY solution! You mearly told the U.N that they haven't been doing their job, and that they should start. WHAT!? THAT WON!?
That's like walking into a restaurant and seeing things in disorder (bathrooms a mess, tables dirty) and instead of telling the employee specifics on what they need to fix, you tell them "you signed a employee manual, you haven't been following it, so you should."
But that IS a solution. Clearly as a collective human race we know what the problems are. We just need to quit with all the cheap talk and DO something.
Which is exactly what ukiyoboy has suggested.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion here. You claim that this is no solution - but personal and offensive attacks to a complete stranger is the SOLUTION you suggest? Think about it.
Probably it was one of the people who did´t get the so dreamed free trip to NYC. But it´s fine, my friends ambassadors and I got to meet Mr. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. The person we actually care for the opinion. I certainly do not care for commentaries about religion. NOT WHATSOEVER. Once they learn what respect means, they will have a more pleasant life. oh, we did a youtube group just for our work. look at my page. there are some footage of us in NY.
First of all, 60 years instead of 64 because I did not feel the statement was time-sensitive, so for the sake of a clean "look" I just rounded. Apologies to those offended.
Frankly, there seems little reason for criticism. These are all amateur videos, made by regular people. Even the greatest philosophical minds cant wrap their heads around international politics. How do you expect these 3 minute videos to represent an entire global conscience?
Please, be glad that there have been so many submissions. Be glad political idealism and hope still exists. Unnecessary criticism gets us nowhere. Keep making videos. Youtube is the medium where more people will be influenced by your ideas - not a concert in New York. This contest alone has publicized all of your works. Visibility is the real benefit, isn't it? How about sharing in the global dialog to promote human rights, civil liberties, etc?
I see no need for further personal attacks. There was no intention for offensiveness, this is for the benefit of promoting action for all of us. Please do not think it otherwise. Its not a beauty pageant, it is expressing hope.
You're right. They should have asked these amateur artists to SOLVE problems, not make inspirational videos about them. I mean, what can individuals across the globe do except draft meaningful long-term plans for improving global life? Certainly not make a five minute video trying to get more youth involvement. That would be SHAMEFUL.
All sarcasm aside, I agree with the religion comment. But please don't piss on someone else's achievement. Even on YouTube, that's a little shallow.
Also: 64 years! Not 60! Shame, shame, shame. And you do not represent me. I think the UN has done the best that it can do and has prevented WW3. My problem is with the five undeserving video producers and the UN technocrats who made the decision; not with our UN.
Of the five that won, mine not included in this mostly undeserving group, your video was the one that might have deserved to be in the top 200, but not in the top 20! Why? Because you too exploited images of people who have not given you their consent and who will not be joining you at the UN, and because you re-open old wounds by having to be too specific about the names of countries: Rwanda, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc... None of the winners sought to give the actual victims of war a voice! Think!
I am from Iran, yes you are right, always images of these countries cos it's to touching, So what? What can change Ahmadinejad the president of Iran?? People are killing by government every day. Yes the images are touching but what is the solution? Ahmadinejad knows the whole thing that people showed in their videos, so do these advices work?
I like your ideas. I am actually writing a paper about exactly what you said regarding the United Nations. Congratulations to all the winners and good luck in NY.
I hope that someday we all achieve your desire to make the world better and safer place.
I consider myself a winner too. I had the opportunity to speak to the world and share my story with you all.
So thank you UN!

Are you fuckin joking?! I'm not agreeing with you, can you understand English?!
YOU DID NOT SOLVE ANYTHING!
Now i'm even more mad you won, you can't even comprehend simple sentences, and you are getting to meet with world leaders.
This is seriously a joke.

The fact that someone put a thumbs down on this comment, a mere congratulations, is so embarrassing. Someone needs etiquette lessons.

Because it's a disgrace, these people didn't get picked for REAL solutions, they got picked for flashy videos, this whole thing was a sham.
I seriously can't believe in the last video i had to hear the guy say "jesus is the way"
Promotion of religion/religion itself is one of the man causes of war.
This is a very shameful conteset
