this game helped kuerten to defeat sampras in lisbon cup's semi in 2000. At that time Kuerten defeated Sampras and Agassi, a unique achievement for the ages.
Back to my original pojnt oh you almighty tennis genius/god... had the match been played in Brazil this would not had happened?!? Hypocrite fool, tennis is a global sport with international lines people and chair umpires. And this one was in MIAMI of all places!! Talk about international influences in a US city!! Pete Sampras won 64 career titles (15 grand slams) did he win them all because of "bad calls"? Your idiotic argument is actual confirmation that YOU are clueless about tennis...
@saratavares I guess you missed when he gave the point back to Gustavo on the very next serve... or did you really think that Pete Sampras would actually miss 2 straight kick serves (with the second aimed at the center of the box!!) on a tie breaker. That was a best of 5 sets match, guga had plenty of opportunities to win it.
"no wonder his trophys were stolen years later, it´s punishment!"
BTW, they were all recently recovered, so I guess all is forgiven, right? ;-)
@es573 Sampras "gave the point back to" Guga? Are you crazy? There's no such thing! We can see from this comment that you don't know enough Tennis. Sampras always told that he prefers to force and double fault instead of letting the opponent hit winners on his second serve. That's why he always did a high number of double faults in his matches.
@marciotavares this match was played in a fast hard court... Pete Sampras would have never second guessed his second serve on a fast court against a clay court specialist. Guga played a great match, but he lost get over it, go watch some soccer.
@es573 actually, the courts used for Miami played pretty slow compared to the other hard courts at the time, like Indian Wells. that's one reason why Kuerten got to the final. and Sampras won 14 slams, not 15.
@es573 ... and it doesn't matter if it was a best of 5 match and Guga had a bunch of previous opportunities to win... one of these opportunities was that 6-6 point, and he did lose the point because of bad judgement from the line judge and omission from chair umpire (he could overrule). If that ball was called in, it would be match point Guga. But the americans wouldn't like (allow) that on their home, no?
yeah. you are right, the jungleboy (from brazil) lost this game and the warboy (from usa) won it, because if brazil is knowing because of the jungles, you american people is knowing around the world because of the war you did for no reason in the last century.
yeah. you are right, the jungleboy (from brazil) lost this game and the warboy (from usa), because if brazil is knowing because of the jungles, you american people is knowing around the world because of the war you did for no reason in the last century.
you got to notice that the american television (Fox) did not exhibited the replay of the point... probably they could be embarrassed with that ball clearly out at 6-6 that the line judge, also american, called in... that's why guga was so pissed off
@marciotavares Yeah, I'm sure had the match taken place in Brasil with a Brazilian chair the call had been made correctly... get real!! It's part of the game.
kuerten was, i think, still steaming from a close call on the same side of the court earlier in the set. probably felt at that point that he couldn't catch a lucky break. can't say i blame him. to fight so hard to stay in the match only to have it taken away by a couple very close calls - a matter of inches. gotta be tough.
Guga was not happy with the previous call, that's why he smashed his racquet, Pete knew that if Kuerten had taken it to the 5th set he would have won it, Pete had no fuel left in the tank, great match tough and Guga honestly congratulated him despite being mad as hell
Sampras is a great, maybe the greatest after federer, but playing in Miami, I have no doubt refs would be for Pete.......playing here in Brazil, possibly it would have been a bit different...
Anybody else realize how nice and comfortable the stadium looks back then? Now, it feels artificial, or something. We are people, you are making people feel like fleas on a plastic dog.
Crowd sucks, stupid biased commentators suck.

Anybody appreciate Hawkeye these days? I bet many do.
Those who say it´s a money waste should acknowledge that that´s the best thing in tennis since 06.
