Caught a tiger shark at the 20 mile wreck off of Cape May, NJ. He was about 16 feet in length, must have weighed about fifteen hundred pounds. Fought the fellow for about an hour and a half, than cut the line and set him free. He was quite the formidible friend. We were actually hunting for Makos at the time. Since we were trolling, he must have been a quite healthy tiger. They are usually much slower than Makos and don't attack on fast moving baits.
Balls of steel, my friend... balls of steel. I'd almost rather swim with whites than tigers. They freak me out. And this is some really beautiful footage.
They are black tip oceanic sharks. The most common sharks to turn up at bait dives in Umkomaas. Second most frequent, depending on the time of year are the Duskys then tigers, Bulls, Hammerheads and other diferent species. Bronze whalers very rarely turn up on baited dives like this and never in numbers even close to this. Better luck next time and learn your sharks properly.
I read about the shark killings only a few hours ago, the news has totally gutted me, i was planning on going to the aliwaal shoals myself to see these magnificent creatures in a year or so. Apparently there are only 20 local residents sharks, making the killing of 7 or 8 has almost oblitorated the tiger sharks there. I hope the authorities and media do something about this to bring more public attention to it.
There were only 2 tigers killed. What a shame. we did six dives on the shoal and it was wonderful. Some fisherman just don't care we saw a boat called Dr hook fishing within the marine protected area and our skipper went over and kindly requested them to get off the reef. The guys knew exactly where they were fishing and acted very unaware when they were told to bugger off, flippen arrogant little doos
I've dived Aliwal Shoal a few times and I'm always amazed!!!

Tigers are very gracefull and get pretty wise in their hunting behaviour as they mature.
Bull sharks are another species u do not want to mess with. They can travel up rivers and live in fresh water with no problems.
Thanx a gazillion 4 the song request.
Got a great video and a song Ive serched for a long time.
