  • i've been building for 40 years. i sell what i build, and quite frankly, i feel as though lindberg was a big stepping stone in my learning years. to this day, it doesn't matter to me... lindberg tamiya, trumpeter, afv, monogram. it really doesn't matter. you still do the same research, scratch work, aftermarket p/e, etc.now if i were to take accurate measurements on say a 1;350, i allow a .5 percentile error, but i didn't build the 1:1. p.s. the new re-release mpc are pure junk!

  • Lol your voice is different from the B-25J

  • lindberg has always made junk, never was a fan of thier models. poor design, detail. just not worth the cost

  • Today I have received this boat. This is the second kit I buy. The other nearly 20 years ago I sold it. In Spain there were 5 destroyers. They were called The Five Latinos (a famous band of that time). Ships were sailing very well and put up with strong waves. In The Spanish navy were greatly appreciated and were a landmark for sailors. Five Latinos were: Lepanto (D-21), Almirante Ferrandiz (D-22), Almirante Valdés (D-23), Alcalá Galiano (D-24) and Jorge Juan (D-25). It's a beautiful kit. ;O)

  • my sister just gave me this model . she found it at a garage sale for 1 dollar

its from 1975 and its still in the original plastic

100% complete except the rubber bands included in the decal pack are hard as rocks . going to start on it this weekend

  • @smurfsex Now that's a find! Post some videos if you can sometime and let me know!

  • If you want another one or twelve, let me know. A local shop has them for $30/ea. Those and the Graf Zeppelin. Check out my latest video showing them all at the store.

  • This is one of the most popular models i have seen. I got mine about 30 years ago and still have it!!

  • I am getting one of these, i am just going to not use the d-cells and put my rc components in that box, wich already have their own battery, i dont really care about radar and the guns moving if I can R/C it that easily, but thanks for the review!

  • How's the build coming or have you not yet begun?

There is a site devoted to the RC conversion of this model boat on Yahoo Groups called "LindyFletcher" This kit is the main focus but other plastic model ship conversions are discussed... a great resource //groups.yahoo.com/group/lindyfletcher/

  • @ZhuangChe This is boxed for the foreseeable future. I've gotten very far behind on this years plans. Looking to summer 2011 for some Steel Navy. I've got a couple ships now.

  • I had the same kit when I was 12 years old. I thimk i will build another. now that Im older and better modeler. I think the gear box was BS. better to use modern brushless moters and servo. some lead ballast to keep it from porposing. Hope you have fun!

  • I am currently building this model, but am converting it to RC. I am replacing the 6 D batteries with a 7.2V RC Car battery. That should be a slower model (9v vs 7.2v) but with much longer running time (1.2A vs 3.2A). I dont like the 1 motor geared system, but it could be setup for 2 motors. Its horribly out of scale but is good enough that most people wont know.

  • The hulls were all welded. No rivets were used so you don't have to worry about adding that detail. These destroyers can be modded to handle scale typhoons. Some separate the bow decking from the rest of the hull and seal it permanently so any errant wave that crashes over the bow will just run off the sides. Great little ships.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • dude u put the deck on upside down i started mine it takes a while to paint though

  • Wow. In one day, this is the most heavily rated, viewed and commented video I've done yet.

  • nice to see you get into military models... :) have you checked the net for upgrade kits?

  • Not yet. I expect there is at least one piece of PE for this model. I've got some time. I may just do some minor tweaks and call it a fantasy ship, rather than one that really existed.

An hours research today shows that this model is more accurate to the last few Fletcher's than the Melvin herself. But that it is still mostly inaccurate to any that ever existed.

  • How many of us have bought a kit partially based on box size only to get home and find the kit itself is about 10x smaller? Or saya really cool cover only to find the model looks like a horrible mutation of the artwork?

It's true. Presentation is always a factor. That is why I was utterly shocked and burst into insane laughter when I bought the PL 350 1701 a couple years ago. I expected little and got a box crammed w/ plastic that was difficult to fit back in after a parts review! Beauty!

  • However, In these modern days when resources and cost are major concerns for everyone, I do despair at this practice.

On a related note, I used to work at an embroidery shop doing jackets, hats, etc.

Every hat had 1 slice of card backing the front. ~2"x5". M not so much for 1 hat. But when U go through 5 gross/day, doz's gross per week... It gets overtly obscene how much card is simply thrown out. Shirts were as bad w/ 2 sq' of 'tracing paper' and often indiv. bagged. Ugly stuff.

  • Concerning the box size: I've noticed that most model boxes come in uniform sizes - it's especially true for cars, regardless of the manufacturer. Possibly this size is standard and it was the next best fit for the size of these parts.

In any case, the larger the box the bigger the artwork and in the end size and graphics sells the product.

  • I have a big-old PT-109 sitting in the top of my closet...It's made by the same company....

I bought it partially assembled for $5 at the thrift store and planned to kit bash some wargame terrain out of it....

But I cant force myself to chop it up:)

  • My local also has that kit on the top shelf. Forget the scale, but it looks like it a monster. I may go for that at sometime.

Think my next big ship will be a 3-mast'er. Revell has a decent sized Iron Sides & there's another called Sea Witch, -size and maker escape me. It's ~$100 is all I know.

Nope, I also know that rigging is a highly complex skill I completely lack. So that purchase is much further in the future. Maybe 2-3 years. I'd like to have this kit built by next summer.

  • Hahaha. My brother and I built this kit back in 1976 when we were young teens. We eventually got bored watching it run in circles so we ripped the deck off, built internal bulkheads, filled alternating compartments with lighter fluid (in little balloons) and gunpowder, and glued the deck back on. Then we lit a long fuse to the lighter fluid that we fed and pushed her off into the lake for one last mission. Alas, she didn't survive and now lays in a few hundred pieces on the bottom of a lake.

  • Nice! Did it simply catch fire and melt, explode or what were the results?!? I used to attach firecrackers or smoke bombs to my models as a kid. I must do this now as an 'adult', but I have the sense, and the skills, to get it on video for some fx work.

  • Clip: ... got bored watching it run in circles...

Yes, the presets look fun for a few mins, but I think RC is the option here. I'd like to set up so I can use the same controller CVN-65 and an other I may do in future.

I have no clue on RC, other than a good controller is gonna be ~$100 range give or take a lot o' $. Then add receivers and who knows what else... It will be an investment to be sure.

I'll have to meet someone w/ a pool as the Pacific will sink this in a heartbeat! lol.

  • Kids, a lot of dangerous ideas occur here. Blwing stuff up is highly dangerous. You can lose fingers, eyes and even your face can be mutilated. ALWAYS have an adult around for even the smallest firecracker! Be safe. Be responsible!

  • Oh, I definately wouldn't reccomend that anybody follow in our footsteps. It was a different time, we grew up in Montana with lots of room, and we loaded our own ammo so we had experience with powder and things that go boom. My cousin lost a finger playing with one too many M-80's. It happens.

  • Very, very nice! I've always had a love for plastic naval ships, however the 1944 era was more in touch with me ;) I cannot wait to see what you do with this one. I know you'll be putting in a motor and LEDs, but I'd love to see you put your little project reports for each major part you do. You know, because I think I'm inspired to get that USS Mississippi I've always wanted ;)

  • clip: ...I'd love to see you put your little project reports for each major part you do...

Unlike the installemnts I usually do for every model? Perhaps you could elaborate, I'm not catching your meaning clearly. :)

  • Uh.... *Brain fart* Yeah, I think that's what I meant, you know, your little installments that you do on each model =)
