We once had some kittens who were born in the same litter and their mother either died or got really sick and was able to care for them. A dog at the Humane Society where they were born took over as their surrogate mother and so the kittens grew up to LOVE dogs! I know at least one or two of them were adopted into homes that had dogs as well. It's amazing how compassionate animals are!
