改善(gai shan) is Chinese word.I understand that Chinese Hanzi(or Kanji in Japanese)are still being used in Japanese Writing, along w/hiragana& katakana..but this is a common word& every chinese uses this phrase every now and then.Confucionism("Master Kong",551-479BChas been a great influence to Japanese Culture..and so this wisdom is originally from Chinese..just like, "love your neighbor" is originally from Judaism and not Christianity or others..

kaizen has been Toyotas mission statement since day one., it seems to work for them.
