One of the videos made the observation that you must ask the right questions.Why should we only be ruled by people (intelligensia) that cannot possibly represent all the people by virtue of life experience.I think Jesus gave a good example by choosing to experience what the people he was going to lead experience.The alternative is pontification, patronizing and dehumanizing technocraticness.

plato tends to be, while being undeniably rational, sadly melancholy. It is as it His pragmatical concerns blind him to utopian ideals. The argument seems to be muted by an underlying acknowledgement of the limitations of human nature? What if it all was predicated on a generous good will and not on inevitable malignancies? This actually, is the hope of mankind; so how does society acheive it? Through wisdom that is open and just and not through secrecy. Why then are most governments secretive?

There's a lot of thruth in Plato's observations concerning human nature, but I think his ideas expressed in the Republic about the order of the society are quite wierd and could never have been put into practice. Though, if they were, they would surely be a disaster... they're all too reasonable, but man is not a reasonable animal...
