Cool song! Wow I didn't think I would like it so much. I just started listening to Bowie recently and I'm 20 years old. Shows how lame my generation is (or how lame I am, at least).
I'm a young Bowie fan, well I say young (17) but I was brought up on Bowie, Love all his songs, but his best song, to me, is "When I'm Five" simply because it was played on my 5th birthday, This is a really crap story so I will stop, But this is another great early song of his.
Its not crap, all Bowie songs have their place. I too was brought up on Bowie (now nearly 42) by my now 50 year old brother. I have 30 odd original press albums (yes the round black things & they sound so much better) and love all of them for one reason or another. Embrace all tracks for the period they were written, turn them up & sing real loud & dance round like a moron & don't try & justify why you like them!
@RougeMongoose im a young fan too(15), and i've always listened to him, ever since i was little. it's good to see there are other young people with good taste.
thanks for posting. I had the dream anthology which had this song and all his early pop stuff, but it was stolen from my car a few years ago along with all my other cds. its been a while since i tripped on dis shit
Don't worry. It isn't going over your head. It just isn't Bowie's best work. He was WAY too influenced by the likes of Anthony NEwly at this point in his career. British whimsy and all that. Thank God he outgrew this phase. But Let me Sleep beside you, an early song featured on many of the early CD compilations, is the first of his early tunes that shows the brilliant songwriter Bowie WOULD become. Here...he just isn't there yet!
British whimsey? Britain is so much better than most countries, and this song would be great to dance to with such a strong beat, a bit of classic music mixed with bowie is what we've always dreamed of >:( sure it isnt his best, in fact i have never heard it and i know bowies star sign! (Capricorn) so what? its still great!
Why are these tracks meant to be rare?i've been a fan of Davids early stuff for years and it's always been widely available,Little Bombardier,She's Got Medals,Join The Gang being particular favorite's of mine.
well when I posted these I had not realized they had been released on CD in a big re-issue. but it still seems that quite a lot of people have not heard it.
Yeah your right thanks for making people aware of Davids early work and your right a lot don't know about it.I was brought up with a double album of my older brother's and in recent years i've had the Deram Anthology CD set. Please disregard my other comment.
@mickmitchell25 Well i guess it's rare in the opinion of some new fans who have only recently discovered them you see ; maybe rare was not the best word for them to have used ; should have been LESS KNOWN or something.I had all these too on an album in the early 70s called The World Of David Bowie
Is the song rare or just obscure?

kinda reminds me of a song some minstrel could sing at a Renaissance Faire

Bowies 60s songs are so overlooked. I can understand why as once I hated them. But now i apreciate them. Thanks for posting. Bowie is just a genious.
