The key to country guitar playing is to play ON the beat. Blues-based players (like me) play behind the beat, which changes the feel. I always struggle playing a chicken-pickin type groove (doesn't help that I'm a NY Yankee).
Country guitar is based, in large measure, on blugrass guitar. Finding the beat, and staying on it, is key.
