@JayQuinn1994 No it doesn't because this required a USB 3.0 Port, which Macs don't have. But Black Magic made a new one called the Intesity Extrmeme that uses the Thunderbolt Technology which Macs DO support. But the Intensity Extrmeme is a good amount of cash more than the Pro.
For those who can't tell the difference, the difference is the compression artifacts on the pvr footage. The pvr compresses all of its recorded footage which causes these artifacts (which cause the footage to look a bit blurred or pixelated, but can be reduced by increasing the bitrate). The Intensity records uncompressed footage. An inexperienced eye might not be able to catch it, but there's definitely a quality difference. However, the Intensity's quality comes at the cost of large files.
Their Both great capturing devices, it really hard to say which one is the better one, in some games the Black magic looked better and in some other games the PVR looked better so its a really close call, BUT to all of those who are looking to live stream, You should def go with the black magic, its a lot easier to live stream, in the other hand the HD PVR is not as easy, but as quality wise any of these capture cards would make you happy.
@uGzConnor No... the maximum resolution for PVR's is 1080i because the not compatible with HDMI and HDMI is the only way to achieve 1080p. component cables only go upto 1080i
Heyy, ive check 100 times its all plugged in exactly right everythings perfect, hd tv to. so i click component channel yea yea, then i click 720p and u see the do u accept this settings for like 1 second, then the screen goes black but i can see it on my laptop though, but on the tv its a black screen, When i click 576p it all works. Help Please! Thanks ( I GOT A HD PVR Gaming edition)(PS3)
I honestly don't see a difference. But I'm pretty sure Intensity Pro is cheaper right? But you also need a desktop for Intensity Pro. I'd get Intensity Pro but I have to use a laptop, so I'm getting an HD PVR.
can someone help? im looking to be a YouTube commentator and i need to know whats (in your opinion ) the best between the black magic intensity pro and the HD PVR? please help!
Hi, I'm looking to record gameplay from the PC on the same PC, will using one of these cards be better than using fraps? Right now fraps halfs my fps and it's annoying.
@smokanci Actually, I tried recording PC with the Intensity PCI card and it didn't work. Not sure about the shuttle and what not since they support 1080p. In theory yes they should perform much better.
My solution was to use a program called Dxtory. Also, make sure you're recording onto a completely separate hard drive from the one you're game is running off of. That's the biggest reason for the lack of frames.
@TheDylan1234 I would suggest a pvr becuase when you zoom in with the black magic the pixels become corrupted and are vary blury if you would like to see a pvr in action watch my vid called " Fml.."
@TheDylan1234 Well the PVR can hold more colors and compresses the video to around a Gb per 10 minutes. The Pro captures more detail and can use HDMI cables, but the file size is around 1 GB per minute. So if you have a great computer, a large hard drive and don't mind long render times, Go with the Pro. If you want more colors, lower rendering times, and have a decent computer go with the PVR.
HD PVR will still dominate the HDMI devices b/c its a external capture card. Majority of gamer's prefer a capture card that can plug and play into a laptop/PC. I don't mind using HDMI cards, but I don't have a personal PC to mess around with. Plus to be honest the HDMI (Intensity Pro) only brings out a little more color in games thats the only difference between the HD PVR. Theres not much comparison between them both only the price and compatibility.
@TheGarmanProductions Yeah, whoops, I actually saw that just after I posted the comment and actually did some investigation. Still, because of the technology, Thunderbolt devices are so expensive. Plus I'd need a new Mac anyways. STOP ADVANCING TECHNOLOGY!!
I got the Intensity Pro 2 weeks ago and I can't get the fucking thing to work. I think it's the shitty software and the requirement for Adobe Premier. I messed with my HDMI setting for my 360 and now it won't connect to my TV anymore. Thanks Blackmagic for ruining my Xbox and making me piss away $200
@KoZBlest Not completely true. For live stream the IP is a better CC so basically pvr is the more user friendly cc. IP has more functionality. Also pvr goes for about 150 on amazon. Back when I got both of them I paid 180 each off the actual sites for each on sale. I use the pvr more though since the IP is more resource demanding and takes a ton of hdd space uncompressed.
@RickyKirksey Because the the The intensity pro is a new component for the pc, it uses the pc to process the the HD content. With the HD PVR the box does most of the hard work and so your PC does not need to be that great although I would recommend nothing below A dual core processor with at least 2.9ghz, a discreet graphix card with at least 512mb and 4gb ram.
Tbh it makes no difference. Both are hd 1080p, and if u have after effects u can easily brighten up the pvr's image. I do however have an Intensity Pro, just cos.

@FRr3AkOnALEaSh Not bad... It should be perfectly fine to capture. I use 2gb of ram too and i got no problems. You should be fine. NOTE first that the Black magic can be very tricky to setup when it comes to setting up on the computer. There are not much tutorials out there so i might make one specially for you and other people who plan to get one :]
@Orangeboxesx Don't get me started on setting up capture cards lol, i remember how hard it was for the EasyCap back in the days, downloading multiple drivers, some programs wouldn't work, no color etc ^.^. When you say tricky, what do you mean? It comes with drivers etc right? or some installation process? I thought you'd just need to install software/drivers, update and pick a program to record with?

Just a tip from your friends over at zeroclockgaming:
While I have no experience with recording pc footage with a capture card, I would like to point out some ways to improve fraps framerate.
1. Make sure that Fraps settings are correct (60fps)
2. Install and record on a another Harddrive then your game is on (so having 2 harddrives helps)
3. Upgrade your CPU (Fraps is mostly cpu heavy)

1) The HD PVR has better color
2) The Intensity Pro has better HD quality with better detail
3) The Intensity Pro is about $10-$20 cheaper
4) With the HD PVR, you don't need to upgrade your computer

6) The HD PVR is easier to setup
7) Because of the Intensity Pro being in the computer, may not be stolen. But if its in the computer, you'll get both stolen.
8) The HD PVR is a cool box you can show off to your friends(;
