@WW2AirSofters i know it is, ive shot one, but there are plenty of other alternatives that will meet the same accuracy standards. Check out TAC-OPS, they make the most consistent rifles ive ever seen. The have a .25 inch standard that they keep. Thats a hell of a standard to hold. Then normally hold much better than that. and they sell for 3500.
The AW338 is not worth 23000 pounds. The rifle is maybe 3000-4000 pounds and maybe 2000 pounds for the scopes. You might get to 23000 pounds if you include the price of a Vetcor 21 Bravo (Laser Rangfinder Binos)

Having shot this weapon and the M82 Barrett .50 BMG, i can honestly say i prefer the L115A3, the Barrett is a nice weapon don't get me wrong, but not a nice weapon to fire. After you put a few rounds down range you want to put it away because of the pressure and shockwaves it feels like someone thumping you in the chest, it's a heavy weapon to carry around and the ammo is huge. The L115A3 is nice and light, good range, accuracy and knockdown power. in my opinion it's the ultimate sniper rifle.

I see a lot of flak with the American vs British attitude. I'm American and want to say not all Americans have a "we're better than you" attitude. America is a great country, England is also a great country. Both are great in their own ways. I praise the sniper who holds the world record now with this weapon. While British he's still on the only team that counts, the good guys. Congrats to them for making awesome weapons dating back the the Centurian tank and beyond. Go America, Go England.

Plus they take years to develop these weapons and theyre worth the money when they work to an incredible standard, as proved when a British guy killed two people from over 1.5 miles away, the furthest confirmed kill.

@13thmistral Same round, last I talked to him he has was redefining the case body angle to aid in extraction and feeding. He has formally named it the SnipeTac as it is his proprietary round. Was thinking about building one but the thing is just prohibitively expensive to shoot. Also, barrel life is what you and I would call.............ridiculous! Imagine a 385 gr. bullet coming out of the end of a 32" barrel at 3300 f.p.s. It does make me giggle though!

Carlos Hatchcock scored his with a M2HB .50 cal MG fitted with scope. No .50 sniper rifles back then. He admitted it was a lucky shot guy stood up at the right time otherwise it would have gone over his head.

@alcosher I'm going to assume you mean .408, and read up on reviews from long range shooters, this would not be a practical rifle for military use for the main fact that coppering in the barrels adds up so fast and the maintnece would be a pain in the ass in the field

@The143500 It's predecessor the L96 was chambered in 7.62x51mm the L115 is chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum and is now the standard for British snipers. It provides an intermediate round between the 7.62 and the .50 calibre. Germany and soon American snipers will be using .300 Winchester Magnum.
