John Lennon certainly had his moments as a songwriter with or without the Beatles. But PJ Harvey is every bit as edgy and original as Lennon could be. She certainly is the better and more powerful live musician. Lennon could never produce anything at this level of intensity when performing live.And I speak as a Lennon fan.

The use of the Eddie Cochrane song 'Summertime Blues' - "...why don't I take my problem to the United Nations?' - within the context of the song is to me a perfect critique of the pro-imperilaist role of the 'United' Nations...

Polly is and has been outstanding for 20 odd years, many albums of genius and brilliance galore. Apart from Patti Smith, I can't think of a similar female artiste over the last few years who has such passion, soul and ability.

i doubt if anyone can name any female who can even hold the merest flicker of a flame to Polly Jean.

@PartyPoisonSigningIn It's a bit like saying Billie Holiday can't sing. Or that Louis Armstrong always sang with a frog in his throat Yet they were amongst 2 of the most revered voices in jazz. PJ Harvey can certainly sing in tune when she chooses to, but often sings in a strange voice or off key for effect.

Both PJ and Adele are great singers, no doubt.

But the Beatles, especially Lennon, influenced and changed music forever. They did things no-one had ever done before. The Beatles are the most important and influential band of all time. There will never be a band like that again. Which saddens me, but at least i can listen to their music, and i met George Harrison in person. Something i'm very proud of. Damn, now i'm crying.

The fact is that Adele got a great voice, and when you listen to her music once, you love it immediatly, that's why a lot of people love her. But PJ is like good Jazz or some piece of classic, it's so much greater but you've got to open your ears and be used to this kind of Music.
