I don't get why they won't make the smart business approach and release a quality game. There is a petition for Majora's Mask for the 3DS, and I completely support it, but if they get enough signatures, it will probably be released. If we were to make a petition and get more than they do to translate MOTHER 3, they would ignore it. If you ask NOA, no matter what you say, they say that they don't have plans to release it at the time. Even if you ask for them to actually listen to their fans.

So, they can't release Earthbound on the VC unless they make changes which you mentioned. But, Nintendo of Japan didn't want to make those changes, because pop-culture references are what make the series. Itoi wouldn't be happy to find out his game was completely different than it should be.

@supertrogdorman5252 I've actually seen a lot of videos on the music copyright issues. Frankly, if you want to see flagrant copyright violation, go to the first Sonic game. About all six zones have a songs that samples from some pop music of the time, and it's been released dozens of times. Earthbound/Mother was not the only franchise to do this.
Although, I don't see why they couldn't just mix up some of the songs or rewrite a few things...
@turtwig2mudkip I don't put EBZ characters in my videos because that's bit mixing (putting sprites of different resolutions in the same image, in this case, 8 bit and 16 bit). Though perhaps, I may put the custom M3-style EBZ sprites in a future video.
Technically, putting M3 (32 bit) and EB sprites together is also bit mixing, but it doesn't look like it because Mother 3 was designed to look like an SNES game. M3 characters aren't in this video, but I did include Lucas in FamilyBound 3.

The only legal issues involve some of the content in M2/EB, the holders of which are making claims on. If Nintendo would just give those people their royalty money, they could release the game on VC, and make it back in no time.
And there's absolutely NO reason that they can't release Mother and M3 worldwide. They just don't want to give the series a chance because they don't think it'll sell a million copies on release day.
@TBustah still, don't you and everybody else think its a little late to release it in the U.S since earthbound was released for snes over 10 years ago. don't get me wrong, i love mother 3, but even if the game is released, it would have to be on DS or be on a wii channel. otherwise, the game would be a fully 3d rpg cuz mother/earthbound graphics aren't exactly impressive. And to the general public with no nostalgia whatsoever, it won't sell very well. i still love the game though :D

Though you do make a point about M3, and it's one that has crossed my mind before. Though there's technically no reason that they can't release Gameboy, GBC, or GBA games on VC (if they can do N64, they can do GBA), they have yet to do so. In the case of GBA games at least, it's possible that they feel it's too soon, or that they couldn't/shouldn't compete with GameStop.
@Gameshark744 If that was true, it would be too late for them to make Megaman 9, and Megaman 10. However they did and it was a huge success. Earthbound has gotten a lot more popular than it ever was during SNES times because of it's appearance in the Super Smash Brothers series. Mother 3 would sell easily, especially since Nintendo could put it on the VC. No cartridges = no cost per unit and no production required. They simply buy the rights they need, and sell it digitally.

Brawl did not do the character justice. Lucas started out as a bit of a wimp, but through the hardships of his life, he became stronger. He even ended up saving the world.

To those people I say this: One of these legal issues is over the 'DALI'S CLOCK' enemy in Moonside. The artist is dead and rotten, but the holders of his estate were up in a snit over it.

The only time they're even explicitly referenced is that "Beatles song: xxxersday" part, the rest (the yellow submarine, the visit to Stongehenge) are either vague or don't actually mention the group.
Legally, probably all they'd have to change to please Paul and Ringo would be to change that bit of text (the "xxxterday" part, that is, perhaps along with the "don't care" names in Mother 2, which are actually the first names of Yoko Ono and The Beatles) and maybe remove those sampled bits of "Sgt. Pepper" and "All You Need Is Love".
The only change that I see as big deal would be the Onett theme: it samples "Two Of Us". And not just a small portion: it's part of the chorus.
I can understand why Itoi would refuse to let Nintendo make that change, it's a pretty big deal considering it the theme of Ness's hometown.
The Beatles should just let Nintendo use it. Maybe make them pay for it, but it probably wouldn't be so much that Nintendo couldn't make a profit.

interesting idea, but Nintendo does know what the deal with things like this are. The reason that Mother isn't on the VC for one thing is because Nintendo is attempting to clear up a copywright issue, one that's pointless but is being used to hold them back. I've also been told that Nintendo actually wants to make a movie serial to all Nintendo franchises that will actually be the backstory at the next generation of their games. (so there should be either mother 3 or 4 released then.)

No, that wasn't me. That actually preceded the first FamilyBound by a few years, but I didn't know about it until the series had launched.
I was actually kind of bummed when I saw that short. It meant I wasn't the first to combine EB graphics with FG audio, and it was also a lot better animated than anything I have done.
But I guess I was the first to Family Guy audio and ONLY EB sprites, that guy used some FF stuff as well.
i really wish that they would release mother 3 in english so i dont have to watch people play it on the internet... Even if the fan translatrion is out.
To answer your second question, you won't need a good computer to play it.
Emulators and roms don't take up a lot of data or require massive amounts of computing power (don't forget: most of the systems you can emulate are either very old or are designed to fit in your pocket). My own computer is nearly six years old and is rife with all sorts of problems (which is why I haven't made any new videos in a while!), but it can still run NES, SNES, GBA, and other emulators just fine.
Well, with the release of the Mother 3 fan translation, there isn't much of a point in doing anything.
I've thought about the fact that the patch has had millions of downloads, and thought that Nintendo should look at that and maybe reconsider the possibility that there is money on this series.
Anyway, if you want to actually do something, maybe a mob gathering is in order. You could contact other Mother fans in the area, and stand outside the building with a megaphone or something.
Even though I'm new to the Mother series, I'll pick up my baseball bat and join the fight. My PK Bore-people-to-sleep-with-useless-information should be of great use.

U know... Nintendo might actually make a lot of money outta makin mother 3 in English cause people these days are starting to get a lil bored of the usual pokemon and Mario. I mean, all they do is just reuse the same stuff over and over again. It would be a good change to make mother 3 in English!

I mean I don't understand how those things keep selling, my cousin has Mario Party 2 and every one I've seen is exactly the same, so why buy the same game 20 times? Because we're idiots, that's why Nintendo gave us a re-hash of Oot with a plot that doesn't make much sense (Twilight Princess) instead of an innovative and emotional story like Majora's Mask or Link's Awakening.

They made him LOOK like one? In Mother 3, he WAS a crybaby, at least at first. They explicitly referred to him as such several times in the game's text.
But I certainly agree that the way he conducted himself in Brawl didn't help the Mother series' image.

Brawl did not do the character justice. Lucas started out as a bit of a wimp, but through the hardships of his life, he became stronger. He even ended up saving the world.
Beleive me, I was even more of a crybaby when I was little than he was. I'm in no place to judge him, and I'm not.

@subata45 I suppose that's a possibility, but considering the fact that he's about the same size as Ness in Brawl, I kind of doubt it. Ness is supposed to be about 13, and they were designed by the same people.

Too complicated. All we have to do is orchestrate a few hits on the copyright holders who's legal issues prevent the game's rerelease. But some of you may think murder is not the answer. To those people I say this: One of these legal issues is over the 'DALI'S CLOCK' enemy in Moonside. The artist is dead and rotten, but the holders of his estate were up in a snit over it.
The major snag in this plan is that this also means we'd have to off the Beatles. Not comfortable with that aspect.

The only time they're even explicitly referenced is that "Beatles song: xxxersday" part, the rest (the yellow submarine, the visit to Stongehenge) are either vague or don't actually mention the group.

Legally, probably all they'd have to change to please Paul and Ringo would be to change that bit of text (the "xxxterday" part, that is, perhaps along with the "don't care" names in Mother 2, which are actually the first names of Yoko Ono and The Beatles) and maybe remove those sampled bits of "Sgt. Pepper" and "All You Need Is Love".
The only change that I see as big deal would be the Onett theme: it samples "Two Of Us". And not just a small portion: it's part of the chorus.

I can understand why Itoi would refuse to let Nintendo make that change, it's a pretty big deal considering it the theme of Ness's hometown.
The Beatles should just let Nintendo use it. Maybe make them pay for it, but it probably wouldn't be so much that Nintendo couldn't make a profit.
I'm actually gonna have to side with the holders of Dali's estate, though: he's only been dead for 20 years. If they were only making the claim on the name, Nintendo could just rename it "Melting Clock".

In fact, since the release of the fan translation of Mother 3 last year, I really don't even care anymore. All three games in the series are playable in English in one form or another, (and I've already beaten them all), so it really doesn't matter if Nintendo releases them or not,

interesting idea, but Nintendo does know what the deal with things like this are. The reason that Mother isn't on the VC for one thing is because Nintendo is attempting to clear up a copywright issue, one that's pointless but is being used to hold them back. I've also been told that Nintendo actually wants to make a movie serial to all Nintendo franchises that will actually be the backstory at the next generation of their games. (so there should be either mother 3 or 4 released then.)

No, that wasn't me. That actually preceded the first FamilyBound by a few years, but I didn't know about it until the series had launched.
I was actually kind of bummed when I saw that short. It meant I wasn't the first to combine EB graphics with FG audio, and it was also a lot better animated than anything I have done.
But I guess I was the first to Family Guy audio and ONLY EB sprites, that guy used some FF stuff as well.

To answer your second question, you won't need a good computer to play it.
Emulators and roms don't take up a lot of data or require massive amounts of computing power (don't forget: most of the systems you can emulate are either very old or are designed to fit in your pocket). My own computer is nearly six years old and is rife with all sorts of problems (which is why I haven't made any new videos in a while!), but it can still run NES, SNES, GBA, and other emulators just fine.

Well, with the release of the Mother 3 fan translation, there isn't much of a point in doing anything.
I've thought about the fact that the patch has had millions of downloads, and thought that Nintendo should look at that and maybe reconsider the possibility that there is money on this series.
Anyway, if you want to actually do something, maybe a mob gathering is in order. You could contact other Mother fans in the area, and stand outside the building with a megaphone or something.
