A little question, if you went to China, how is the real thing compared to the news about China you see on TV?

Just curious, because I see alot of people who think China is evil just because their TV says so

China is certainly not evil! Matter of fact, if you look at how foreign nations including Britain, France, Japan, and the US used and abused China in the past century, you might feel alot more sympathy for China and think those other countries are evil.

From my experience, Chinese people are some the friendliest people I have ever met. They are intelligent, hard working, and thrifty.

What the news portrays as evil, is the communist party, single party rule, and human rights violations

Also, except for you, many Chinese people tell me they envy the freedom foreigners have. So I don't believe that you are speaking for all Chinese. Finally, regarding your disrespect for freedom of speech and democracy, have you ever heard of the Cultural Revolution? I suspect the most Chinese people are not anxious to return to those days.

Oh and the Cultural Revolution was somewhat a strange occurance, and China did suffer in that time, but it also ended half a century ago

Abraham Lincoln said a democracy is a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people"

My favorite thing about democracy in the US is that we have the opportunity to choose a new leader. In many countries, people don't have a choice or a military controls people with guns

And the basic meaning of "Communism" is "Common", a world of equality and sharing

But then no government is perfect or the world would be peaceful

No Chinese don't vote for leaders but important decisions go through the People's Congress, a bit like the US senate which representatives of areas (voted by the people) gather up and make decisions for whom they represented

China is improving, you gotta give it time for things to get even better :)

in today's China, there are very few beggers in big cities. The little girl you saw was probably controled by adults. There are gangs who make kids (sometimes even their own) to beg in the street. It's hard for the police to prove these kids were begging be force. Even they got sent back to their parents, they would be back in the street again.
