Im just a teenager who has a huge passion for rugby and, considering the fact that Oz has also been WC finalists on so many occasions, i consider them the best team throughout rugby history. Again, NZ beat Wales by 1 pt in 2004 etc . . . Ireland have won last 2 games v SA. Wales beat Aus last year . . . etc . . .

I did watch it on telly and it was pretty average, only good because it was the final, 03 and 99 were better. No scowl, I was disappointed at the time but well over it by the final. I have no problem losing to the French.

ffs, every good team has a cycle, they build up and up and up, are on top of the world for a few years, peak, then all their players retire and they start over again, in 2003 england peaked, and have been building ever since, took longer than normal, but by the look of back to back wins against australia, i'd say we're almost there, the all blacks are always amazing, they just choke every 4 years and get knocked out in the semi's. amazed the havent won since 1987 :O :L

Ignorance. 2002-03 England was a great side, but it's in rarity and you were lucky it was World Cup year. The All Blacks and the Springboks are the only teams to consistently beat any side anywhere, all the rest have their 'episodes' in glory. Australia in the 90s to 2001, Wales in the 70s, France on any given day... On average NZ loses to England once every decade...

Well being a supporter of the All Blacks, of course I hope they win it this year, but neither you nor I can predict that. You seem to read a lot into the world cup as a determining factor on which team is the best. That's fine, it's your opinion, but bear in mind, the Bokke have also won it twice, and have a far superior overall record than Australia. Surely by your logic they would be the best team. Remember, the WC is not the be all and end all of international rugby.

Im just a teenager who has a huge passion for rugby and, considering the fact that Oz has also been WC finalists on so many occasions, i consider them the best team throughout rugby history. Also, outside the WC the AB's record speaks for itself. If you choose not to pay attention to the fact they have an overall win rate of 75%, and have dominated the world rankings thats fine too, but stats don't lie. The WC has only been around for 25 odd years, and before that, South Africa and New Zealand were the two major forces in international rugby, and by most people's reckoning still are. But hey we can agree to disagree. Personally i'd take the ABs record any day over Oz's

It is rather interesting that all the tests in between world cups appear not to count for anything... it gives the likes of England a good excuse to fluke its way to a world cup final whilst being utterly shite in the preceding four years. To be fair I have to point out that in the four years before the 2003 world cup England were undoubtedly the best team in the world having beaten every opposition both home and away including all the Southern Hemisphere teams - undoubtedly the 2007 final was a bit of a surprise but thats how things roll sometimes!

To be fair I have to point out that the world rankings had New Zealand at number one in all years since the rankings started except 2003 and 2007. In 2003, it was England and in 2007 it was South Africa. So yes I agree, in 2003, England was number one.

England has over 700,000 registered rugby players as opposed to about 130,000 each in NZ and Australia. SA has about 330,000, France 250,000, Wales, Scot, Ire all about 60,000 although crossover with England registrations?? Based on numbers alone, England should dominate!

Not necessarily. If you had to pick 15 players from 20 for a rugby team, or 15 players from 2000 which would you find harder? Of course it's choosing from the most amount of people. Just because England may have more registered players, doesn't mean that they should therefore have the best team, it's bloody difficult to choose the ultimate best squad from so many.

I'm not sure I agree totally with your analysis. As for the gap between NH and SH it's pretty wide based on results but results don't always indicate the toughness of the game, for example 2008 win NZ v Wales was closer than the final score indicated (Wales led halftime). Again, NZ beat Wales by 1 pt in 2004 etc . . . Ireland have won last 2 games v SA. Wales beat Aus last year . . . etc . . .

By that theory China would win everything because they have the most people - which obviously isn't the case. The Olympics isn't a sport and yes China does very well, particularly in gymnastics, diving etc. But what about athletics? Why do Jamaica with their tiny population do so much better than China? Even NZ had better results in athletics, despite the fact that "all our nations resources go into rugby". I'm glad you agree now that there are factors other than population.

yes there is other factors, coaching, facilities, cash and dare i say it climate,(more to do with style of rugby played).
But if all these factors were even, a team picked from a group of 30 has half the chance of a team being picked from 60 people. Ofcourse this is not full proof, but if you picked from the same random cross section of society the chances are the team from the group of 60 would be better. And so if china with 1.5 billion odd people v Nz 4 million people or uk with 60 million!

RSA: It's off farming seaon and they earn cash along the way. Those people who go hunting and hill running for fun are tough as nails.

NZ has won EIGHT series v Lions who have won 1 series ('71). Munster, Liannelli & Nth of Eng have beaten NZ - any others (too rare to remember). Agree with l2s. The gap is narrowing.... Despite been reffed out of the second test, any TRUE rugby fan will know that the Lions were the better team over the series. Never fails to piss me off that twats like Tawhguy always have to have it there own way..... eg. moaning that NZ have never been so weak and that Wales haven't beaten Oz in "how long?". Drop the chip on shoulder mentality and appreciate good rugby - whoever plays it - for what it is, and you'll enjoy the game a lot more!

I wouldn't mind an Eng/NZ final either. You talk it up but the reality is you've only beaten us 4 times in my entire life and never at a world cup (and yes we have played a few times). We beat you 3 times last year alone, so yeah I think I'd fancy my chances.

I did watch it on telly and it was pretty average, only good because it was the final, 03 and 99 were better. No scowl, I was disappointed at the time but well over it by the final. I have no problem losing to the French.
Final or not your team has only won once, just like mine, so you're not really in the position to be giving us advice on winning when it counts.
