  • They were knocking each other out.

  • WOW!!!! *Shiny eyes* 8D

  • jaw dropping...unbelievable talent

  • Andy is better

He has more wonderful vocal range, he more handsome and bright and clean

And that's right, a measure of choose who is better singer is how he could sing the most DIFFICULT song easily and made an unbelivable tone that none can do the same thing. Not only sing sing sing '' ha hu ha hi" because everybody can sing (or dancing), everybody.

    so....

    Andy is an EXTRAORDINARY singer.

  • Damn- this stuff is timeless. No fireworks. No light show. No gimmicks. No lavish set. No Gaga costumes.

Just raw talent harnessed by gifted pros.

This is why these guys and their peers were "entertainers" and "performers" ... not "artists".

    "Artists". Spare me, please.

  • I know this is waaaaaaaay off topic but MEN WERE A LOT MORE COMFORTABLE BEING CLOSE TO EACH OTHERS FACES BACK THEN. It's on all of the old vids.

  • sammy davis jr was the early michael jackson, he was one of a kind.

  • my goodness andy's got soul!!! haha I love it!! those two are amazing and timeless!

  • First beatboxer = Sammy?

  • Excellent,thanks for posting this!

  • I got to tell you men ....i haven't watch tv since 9/11,yo me tv is crap and death

  • Such original talent!!

  • 2 men in a class of there own the worlds best Entertainer and one of the worlds best voices together just having fun ya want passion watch sammy sing what kind of fool am i ya want vocal talent watch andy singing speak softly love the last note he sings is amazing

  • @grantieboy19 Can sammy make those unbelieveable angelic last note? without dance of course..

Sammy is a great entertainer not a great singer

    Andy is a wonderful singer!!

Do not deny love story and moon river, or do not listen to those songs at all, ever!

  • @CateMdll Both Andy Williams and Sammy Davis Jr. were/are excellent vocalists. This video is definitely a treat to see.

  • @CateMdll R U OUT OF YOUR MIND ..Sammy was one of the greatest singers of the century the most talented of the rat pack and a triple triple threat he blew that performance out of the water while Andy could just stand there in amazement he was the most underrated talent ever born to this Earth and as a white person the fact is it absolutely was in my opinion because he was Black

  • @kyolym and Andy was known to be quite a snob with some performers it is a well known fact that he snubbed Barbra Streisand from being a guest on his show because he though she was unattractive which is why she has never preformed with him and refused to come on his show when she was asked again after she became a huge star she has mentioned this snub once in an interview years ago. Sammy on the other hand was a good friend of Barbras although they never preformed together.

  • Great footage! We share a love for classic jazz! 5 awesome stars!

  • SO MUCH TALENT!!

  • I wonder what it was like back then to turn on the tv set and see something like this rather than what we see now? Must have been very nice. Wish I was there instead!

  • sammy was so good

  • Scooping's often done when the note is either difficult to reach or place and you slide onto it. It's occasionally an ornamentation. Davis is less assured in placement and intonation so he scoops to get to notes he can't hit directly.

  • Nope, range isn't about taste. It's about vocal capacity, training and technique. Your preferences don't alter the vocal capacities of artists. You may simply prefer a singer for other reasons. Nope, diction and intonation are not about taste, they are technical skills. Andy doesn't scoop on difficult pitch intervals, he has better technique. Davis does scoop and bend when notes are difficult for him, because his technique is of a lesser caliber.

  • No, it speaks to Sammy Davis' inferior instrument. You may like the way he sings better than the way Andy Williams sings, but Williams has the better instrument and the better technique.

  • No subjectivity isn't relevant to musicality or beauty, taste may lead you to prefer an inferior voice and efficiency is indeed a factor in beauty. I'm a choreographer singer and dancer, and have been for 30 years. Your childish insult to universities and their faculties speaks to your ignorance. All the university voice teachers with whom I've studied are expressive and passionate. The better a voice is, the more potential it has for expression.

  • Yes, your comments about university faculty were ignorant. There is much fine singing today and many fine teachers. Yes, a technically perfect voice has great capacity for expression. Whether you dislike two tenors is immaterial.

  • I'm saying that those are the ONLY two tenors worth listening today. Whether or not a voice is technically perfect has no meaning. What makes us sing is a desire to unleash our emotions. That's it plain and simple. I've seen many singers who were technically perfect, but lacked that singular quality.

  • Two tenors are immaterial to your assertion. Technical skill is the underpinning of great singing. Many people who lack technique sing poorly, but singing isn't technique alone. If you have good technique you have a better instrument with which to express things and the likelihood of a longer, healthier career.

  • No, nothing I said indicated any such thing. I myself am a baritone.

  • Range isn't "higher", it's higher and lower. Two artists, and one is superior as a singer. The other as a dancer.

  • @bang2b Hahaha right

  • @bang2b The better a voice is, the more potential it has for expression.

    I love this line..

  • No, it's not taste, There are objective standards for vocal skill and dance technique. Andy Williams has superior range, pitch accuracy, diction and intonation in comparison with Sammy Davis and Davis is an accomplished tap dancer and Williams is not. Art isn't solely a matter to taste, it's also a matter of objective standards.

  • Andy's a better singer than Sammy. Sammy's a better dancer, quite plainly. The rest is a matter of taste.

  • Plainly speaking - it is ALL a matter of taste.

  • To a degree, but vocal talent, ability to hold a note for a prolonged time, timing, tune and tone all define vocal and singing talent. Andy had few equals in popular music at that time.

  • classic

  • What a rhythm and that musicality!!!!

    Excellent!!!

  • Truly awesome! Sammy is great!!!!

  • Agreed, and Andy is just a little better, but both are great.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting!

  • Hahaha lookit those legs go. That's one cool cat.

  • Oh mein Gott, waren die gut............!

  • lol lol lol Wow !!!!!

  • LOL XD

  • CLASSIC WHERE ARE ALL THE GREATS????

  • The great stage in the sky for the most part.

  • No one today can try to compare! Peace

  • Goddamn...that's all I could say. O_O

  • To bad we don't have professional singers that can perform like this anymore. It seems back then in the 30's,40's,50's,60's, and 70's we had real talent in the entertainment industry( movies, tv shows, music, and comedy). Now everything is dumbed down and second rate garbage. Must be a reflection of our sad pathetic society.

  • 2 brilliant entertainers!

  • Earthshaking amounts of talent in one place. This is really stunning.

  • I enjoyed Andy's soulfulness in this one almost as much as Sammy did! Good Times!

  • Amazing!

  • This video is SPECTACULAR! I enjoyed it thoroughly! Thank you so much for posting!

  • OMG!...what a legendary pair!..the great Andy Williams and the legendary Sammy Davis Jnr!...oh God how can you beat that?

  • Andy sounds out of breath but he still sings so well. I feel like he must have done something tiring before this performance.

  • That is odd, isn't it? Yet he does it throughout the song, so maybe he wasn't used to belting out? He couldn't have been nervous?

  • Man. Sammy just steals the show again ^_^. He didn't get to steal with his singing so he just broke out in dance! Amazing. Can ANYONE steal his thunder? SAMMY FTW!!!! But I gotta admit, I do like Andy Williams more now lol.

  • On a bad "off" day, both of these guys would blow all of today's best stars out of the water!

This was a lot of fun-thanks, burtmurdoch-God bless you!

  • my grandpa was so talented now I know where I get it from

  • bravo...ten stars.

  • Now THIS is talent! SDJ...what a classy and talented guy he was!

  • He's almost as good a singer as Andy Williams, but not quite.

  • I disagree. I consider Williams to be the best of the crooners, better than Sinatra and Bennett. He was a clearly better singer than Davis, but Davis was a FAR better entertainer. He was the whole package on stage, great dancer, very good singer, and he was comedic as well. He was great.

  • This is fantastic I love it!

  • Sammy is one of the best improvisor there is.

  • America's Golden Era of talent.

Makes you wonder if a duo like this went on American Idol (never watch that show), if the judges would have the good taste and sense to keep them.

  • I love a lot !

  • They are fantastic !!!! Andy will always be my favorite singer but Sammy's amazing dancer that Michael Jackson will look like an amateur.

  • Your personal insults and attacks aside, my comment was related to how great a singer Andy Williams is, not a negative comment about anyone else. Sammy was a great singer. That is without question. Andy was just a slight notch above in terms of singing. Now, as to dancing, Sammy was amazing!

  • We simply disagree. As noted, both are great in my opinion. While you see only one as great, I appreciate both.

  • I assume since this has Sammy Davis Jr and you're talking about MJ you're saying that he could dance Sammy under the table...which of course is not true. MJ never had the ability that Sammy had nor James Brown. Now today in comparison with him in the 80's. Yes, I'm sure he could dance most under the table because most dancers today suck and all the greats and legends are no longer with us or are too old to perform like they once did.

  • All of the above - Youtube rules! Sammy was show biz incarnate. Andy still sings great. Rock On. (David Essex, how'd he get in here?)

  • And they reckon Michael Jackson can dance! Man, put him next to Sammy and he'd just look stupid. With that speed, timing, and reflexes Sammy would have been a darn good boxer!

    RIP Champ!

  • Pretty brave of Andy, who is very talented, to get up there with Sammy, who really has no peer.

  • utube is so much better than tv....its great 2 see these old shows and great talent! cheers!!!

  • u r so right... ;)

  • I second that...

  • yes it dose.most tv shows have crappy story,

very racist, utube is 100 times better!

  • I adore Sammy, but I'm afraid I've been taking Andy for granted. Shame on me.

  • doesn't matter... the legends unleashed in youtube... =)

  • Perfect. I play this duet over & over, studying it, relishing it. Astonishing Talents.

  • they were amazing...

  • This was DELIGHTFUL!!!
