@painsey That being the case, it would only take a few with no prior convictions to illegaly sell the guns they stocked to arm the criminals. The black market now is very small and very hard an risky to get involved in. Having stores stocking large ammouts of guns would blow it wide open. I do understand you point though, and in USA it would be completely unrealistic to think a gun ban would do any good. And i do belive the uk needs to alter its legislation to allow reasonable force in defence.

And saying that gun ownership is one of the requirements of democracy is very wrong. Checks and balances and union strikes are there to keep the govt in check. look at the french, they can bring their nation to a standstill without fireing a single shot. As for the 2ND ratified 15/12/1791 “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”.
