Chuscales used to play in the Maria Benitez flamenco troupe in Santa Fe, NM for many years. My wife and I used to travel to see him until he stopped playing and Maria retired. It is a shame there are no good video or audio recordings of his flamenco playing. He is phenomenal! There was a good video of him playing one of his compositions, "Alegrias", from a Toronto station, but that seems to have disappeared.
It does seem that Cuscales is unkown to many, but his integrity shows in his playing. This piece is incredible. I sense he takes things slow with the media and focuses on the playing and rehearsing. In the eyes of the ones that know him, he is the greatest. I truly enjoyed studying from him and the small things I got from him still inspire me today. Such a calm powerful beautiful thing the guitar becomes in this mans hands.
This is a remarkable composition, taped from a TV docu that features four other tracks. I'm mystified that he remains relatively unknown. We all know that life isn't fair.
The beautiful woman in the video is dancer Elena la Comadre, director of Arte Flamenco Dance Company. The man is Cesar Alvarez, one of the great Flamenco singers.
