This is the thru live, some times when a big soul like this is steping this fukin world, have no chance to do the "right" thing. Play, b drunk and take the risk all you nerds.
My take-away from this is that he knew a camera was rolling the whole time and he was entertaining. He was obviously feeling no pain, but I think he was performing and being spontaneous and riffing too. Seems like in the manic phase he is feeling pretty good. . .
Zawinul regretted ever convincing Jaco to drink though; Jaco himself didn't because he saw what it did to his dad. Once he did, Joe couldn't stop him, and his bipolar problems grew until between them and the drink, etc., he couldn't get a gig. It was after getting booted out of a Santana concert that a bouncer at a pub down the street got into a confrontation and beat him so badly he died later.
I don't know what the big deal is here, that was Jaco, the real person, he just had a few beers and was having a good time. It's not like he was incoherent and being violent and stupid and pissing in the corner. This was the side of Jaco that needed to be seen, most geniuses are always a little fruity. I'm glad these videos were put on here, I got to see a side of one of my heroes I would have otherwise never seen. He was human, he fucked up just like everybody does. That's life. Big deal.
I saw jaco at Kim's alley pub on Sunrise Blvd around this time and remember having a difficult time having a conversation with him as he could not focus. Sad to see this, brought me back to that memory.
like jaco said in the video, a good musician steels he don't barrow, and he learned allot from all the black musicians that he stole from. he was giving some back with victor.
jaco will always be the best event victor wooten learn so much from jaco . If jaco was still alive he would still be the best bass player ever . Music was another language for him, he wasnt crazy , he was just diferent and I will always remember him like that . RIP Jaco .
There is some harmony part on the chicken intro in the background that is awesome. It sounds like a voice, it starts right at 30 sec and is totally hip. Was it Jaco singing? Is that the Word of Mouth studio album? Whatever it is, check it out.
Shame on you jazzmanstore, take this videos off from the tube, at least show some respect for the family, show some respect for his sons fucking bastard!
A mental desease it is not something to show, it is a matter of respect of the human being.
Let's remember Jaco as one of the greatest musician ever lived, his private life and troubles must remain in the family's personal ambit.
It is very painful for those who look at Pastorius as at a myth, to see such things, on the tube there are hundreds of videos showing his greatness, lets look at them, to try to understand how great he was as an artist and musician.
@NjegovaVisostBroj1 Why the hostility? I think jassmanstore released some rare footage that shows a more human side of Jaco, not just the legendary side we're all accustomed to.
notice how he just cant shut it off he had the energy of a teen, sitting still bothered him although i heard he could relax quite well in the evening, wish someone sat his ass down in a band during that time he would still be around i think, not the new york bands i mean someone real picking him up so he had to adhere to a schedule again thats all he needed was REAL work love ya john god bless your soul screwball, miss your creativity the world needed more of it
yes and no, you have to remember about that time, everybody was on some thing no body was straight every body was giving away snow or some other thing or if it wasn't snow the beer and booze was flowing or Lucie in the skies, so nobody could sit anybody down because we were all in the same condition but some of us escaped.
@jazzsaavy He could not shut off the energy that was the problem! he was diagnosed a manic depressive it was not a sign of fucking genius people do not understand still this is no different than if he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor! he was sick! God rest his beautiful creative soul !

If you don't experience the emotional extents, there's no way you could express them through your music. Its really that simple.
