@IamStoneGrooved I still really like Spector's version. It's one of the times where I think the wall of sound really works making it more powerful. I don't get why Spector's Technique got such a bad rap. Songs like Art of Dying, Wah Wah, Awating on You All, Long and Winding Road, and What is Life were classics because of his wall of sound.
You know I have to agree with you. I love all their stuff but ATMP really holds up and set the standard. It must have scared the crap out of Paul and John the first time they ever heard it. They were so competitive and must have felt some guilt over holding back George's material all those years. It had to have inspired them at least to do better. Right ??
And in the same interview he referred to Paul's efforts as "garbage." He even often referred to his own music as garbage. Coming from Lennon, "ok" was high praise. The only one's music he never put down was Ringo's.
@subg88 actually in an interview when asked about George Lennon said "I don't really want to say anything about George"- asi n he cares about George and had no quarell with him- in fact Lennon and Harrison worked together alot after The Beatles split. Lennon said "George hasn't done his best work -yet- "(-as in he will later)

I'm sure Spacemen 3 were either inspired, or directly influenced by this song, when writing "Lord Can You Hear Me." Both are fantastic songs.

All Things Must Pass is by far the best post beatles record by any of them and a close second John Lennon's mind games.

@gaspo218 Isn't there an interview on youtube of john lennon saying george's album was just "ok"?
razvaz 2 years ago
@razvaz Yeah, but John could be quite the condescending shit where George was concerned.

@subg88 His self-deprecation doesn't make him any less condescending.

@firebreeze
True. My point, though, is Lennon saying something is "just ok" was actually a compliment in comparison to his usual comments.

@1981omar It can't be "by far" the best if mind games is a "close" second. :P
