@campbellhyde08 The firearm is a registered short barreled rifle on a Form 1, the suppressor is registered on a Form 4. All legal here in Texas with the proper paperwork and Federal permissions! ALL firearms should be suppressed at all times, anything else is rude:)
@Sblammo thanks! yeah it would definitely be a lot cooler if they all were. after you have registered the firearm are you free to sell it? or would the buyer need to re-register everything?
@campbellhyde08 The Form 1 registers it as a "Short Barreled Rifle" or "SBR", as defined by the National Firearms Act. Once registered, the receiver is always an SBR until destroyed or de-registered with the appropriate paperwork. A registered SBR can be sold the same as any NFA firearm, but not the same as any Title I firearm. That is, you can sell it but the buyer would have to at least fill out a Form 4, get fingerprinted, phototraphed, and pay a $200 tax. Google NFA Firearms for more.
@labartic it's basically the same as this video. .223 and 5.56 NATO are almost the same cartridge. Also, the YHM 7.62QD Phantom is a .308 can. Because of dynamic range, these videos aren't a good measure of quietness, but I hear that the inefficiencies caused by the caliber difference is easily off-set by the additional gas volume of the larger can.
sound suppressors won't hide the sonic crack as this occurs after the round leaves the barrel. what it will do it mask the point of origin of the shot, as much for a sniper!
Is Brown Bear pretty good stuff? I've got a bolt gun in .223, and I have a hunch it might like heavy bullets. If BB is good, that might be the best, most economical way to go.
@vettaguru wrong... you want a faster twist with a heavy bullet. Slow twist with lighter bullets. Read some info on the physics behind ballistics please!
If this is full power rounds, where's the crack? o.O I'm not saying you are wrong or anything, I'm still getting this all down. Also is there a benefit to having a 7.62 suppressor on a 5.56 barrel?
@sylentmyst 62 gr Brown Bear is listed as 3050 fps. The sonic crack may not be as apparent due to the location of the camera, but is likely noticeable downrange.
The only real advantage to a 7.62 can on a 5.56 is if you have a 7.62 weapon that you also use the can for, so you don't spend an additional $800 for a 5.56 can, and higher volume of the baffle chambers which can help in a lot of instances. It also has a smaller bore, allowing more gas to escape. A trade off, I guess.
so you can shoot a YHM 7.62 can with a 556 caliber rifle? I thought you had to have the 556 can?

nice rifle! whats the legality with that? do you have to permanently fix it to the barrel to get the 16"? and whats the law with suppressors?

Do you know how loud a .223 subsonic would be if using a 308 can? I would like to knock out two birds with one stone, but want the .223 pretty quiet.

whether or not your barrel prefers heavy bullets depends on the rifling. the slower the twist, the heavier the bullet.
