  • upscale yours then U can tech us

  • Quick question, i have done this up-scaling using your method in Premiere and also using RedGiant's Frames + InstantHD and BorisFX UpRes which are supposed to be infinitely better (Red Giant costs a lot of money), but to my surprise, the Premiere CS4 approach which is supposed to be a crude method, always looks better, letters are so smooth etc while letters with the other plugin are clearly pixelated. Do you have a take re these plugins? Thanks

  • @PaterGustrianditas

premiere stretches the video to your desired size/resolution thus lowering the definition, but increasing the resolution

Software tries to add in images from surrounding ares to replace what is missing when the video is resized (change resolution while trying to keep the same definition).

Software has the potential of being better quality, but it all depends on the source/quality/exact resolution of the video.

This is my understanding of it any way.

  • All this upscaling crap is all about making people take up more Internet bandwith and disk space to get the exact same resolution that you would get if you download it from low res and let the PC upscale it automatically if you care to check the hyped "CSI effect."

If the original source is not HD then it's just a waste of people's time and resources pre-upscaling it in YouTube. Your own PC can upscale on the fly without taking additonal disk space or extra download time.

  • @flurry

    Thank you for your comment.

Doing what i described in the video wont take more bandwidth, or if it does its negligible as it still is not HD with its lower bit rate etc.

This needs to be learned how to do if you have HD and SD video so that you can make the resolution the same.

Uploading video game footage, pictures or anything from an HD camera are all over TV SD or DVD resolution.

This video its self for example was only about 50mb.

  • @MicroWare1

You're correct that sometimes you do need to upscale to "match" resolutions in a non-streaming video. I apologize for overlooking that benefit.

Take a look at the results of your video:

    1080 = 60 MB

    360 (standard YouTube window) = 12 MB

= 5 TIMES the file size

The bandwidth part was meant for the dork that will take your formula and use it for retrograde purposes: Upscaling low-res clips to earn YouTube’s [HD] mark: Everybody gets the same blurred-out video, only 5 times slower.

  • Thankx!!! After a few Adobe and nVidia updates it works now.

    Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 & 5 , Windows 7 Enterprise x64, Intel i7 EE, on X58

  • I did my Adobe updates as well as nVidia and Windoes updates, but I still cannot get the crop frame option to appear in Premiere CS4 in either window. I can get a crop option if I enter the export section but then it is not easy to see, I have to manually possition the sized box around the small image. I may try again but in 2nd monitor full screen to see better. but how do I get that to appear before entering export mode?

  • Thankx, I found this very helpful and as soon as I off work tomorrow I will try it. if I have mixed clips, do I need to do the stretch for each or is there a fit to area option for all clips and photos? Does this need to be done at beginning or can I go back in a project and adjust?

  • @SelectOMatic200

I don't know if there is an automatic fit to screen/area.

I assume that you can go back at any time to stretch the video to fit.(before exporting)

  • @MicroWare1 rightclick the clip in the timeline and click fit to frame...

  • @ukcameraman

Wow, thank you for this advice!

  • hey i have a 1280x1080 and want it 640x400 how do i do that?

  • @tollakt

I think when you go to export, just export for web/youtube or change the export resolution.

Let us know if that works or not.

  • @MagikAcidProductions

No, it wont increase the quality of the video.

This helps if you have lower res video such as dvd 720x480

If you try to upload this to YT as HD 1280x720 or 1920x1080, it wont fit the screen, but will be small with with black to the sides etc

If your capturing from a console gaming system, depending on your resolution you could leave the video at its original size. Look at my video games for example. they are 1680x1050. i dont stretch these. they have very little black box

  • @MagikAcidProductions haha that is a stupid question, sorry. You are too young to understand video editing.

  • thank you!

  • Im using adobe element premiere, it has the option export but it wont let me select it why? Please get back to me I really need this to work :) Thanks

  • @Wildguitar007

I have never used elements, but export should be straight forward.

You have to have the video completed and in the time line, select the video then select export.

If the video isn't highlighted or selected, the software doesn't know what to export.

Perhaps someone else will have the answer that you are looking for.

  • I have been trying to render a SD cod video for the past 2 hours. I used 720p settings and WOW what a difference, amazing thank you very much

  • I'm having the same difficulty resizing my video as other people,

except, i originally could just click on it and resize it, but all of a sudden now it won't let me, and i have no idea why

  • @spiffymagee

    Did you update your software?

It may just have some glitch. Im sure that you tried to restart your pc.

Im sure it would work again if you format and reinstall your os and software.

  • Thanks for very helpful! :)

  • Thanks that helped a lot, Im kind of new to premiere pro, is there a way to keep from having to render all the time, like any little change that I do to a clip, I have to go back to sequence then render working area, is there a way to turn that off?

  • @enemyone365

Sorry, i am not sure what to do there.

  • Great video - Thanks !

  • Youtube also accept MPEG4 in full hd,

  • Just tried to upscale it without the effect. It still doesn't work...

  • @Strykefur

It may be that the "size bars" to stretch the video are off screen. You may beable to highlight the video in the time line, then grab the video and drag it to find the corner of the video to stretch it.

Also check to make sure that your project video size is the set to 720. If it is set to 420 as the original size of the video, then the stretching brackets would be off screen.

  • For some reason when i double click on the clip I want to resize (I did everything you did in the video) it does not give me the option to resize it. It's a 420 video that I'm trying to stretch to be 720, but for some reason it's not working. Any suggestions? PS: I have a chroma effect on the clip, might that have something to do with it?

  • how did you make it into the rough draft quality like u said?

  • You can simple right click on your screen furthest to the right and choose "Quality".

  • ok i click ok and it dosent go to the rendering or Encoding screen! wtf!

  • You may want to open "Adobe media encoder" manually after you have opened "adobe premiere pro".

This may take a minute to open, depending on the speed of your computer.

I hope this answered your question/statement. If not, please take more time thinking about what to ask and more time writing your question, so that i can better respond to you.

I understand this can be frustrating, thanks.

  • MY fame size said it was invalid!. wtf help..

  • The frame size indicated at 4:06?

Did you get this part worked out or do you need some advice in this area?

Please watch your language, i normally just delete comments that contain even abbreviations of swear words. Thanks.

  • sorry for being immature for my language, but the encoding bit dosnt open when i click ok, like it did at the end of this video for you....

    please help

  • Premiere can be finicky and may just crash without notice. Meaning that the link from when you go to "file, export, media" That opens Adobe media encoder" may not be working.

Try opening Adobe media encoder manually, then go back to premiere and see if it will work for you.

Also, be sure that Adobe media encoder is installed on your pc. "Start, all programs , adobe, Adobe media encoder". Not to be confused with"Adobe media player"

If it wont open manually you may have to uninstall/install it

  • ok i went into all programs and adobe but there i only Adobe media player, there is no encoder...

  • I didn't know this until just now using google.

    According to help.adobe:

"Adobe Media Encoder is a standalone encoding application that is employed by programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro".

That is odd. What good does premiere pro do, if it isn't bundled with "Adobe media encoder"?

Im not sure what other program you can use. Ill look into it and get back to you if i find something.

Ill mail you with the link where i found this info since i cant post a link here.

  • ok thank you very much, your very helpful.

    i subscribed :)

  • tnx a lot.! ^_^ ♥♥♥
